Damn, Bricker. If you agree w/ McCain on most of the issues, fucking vote for him already, and quit whining about it. McCain passed over Romney, easily the most qualified, experienced candidate from either party, in favor of Buffy the Bullwinkle Slayer. There is no way you can convince me that she’s a better understudy than a guy who’s run an Olympics, has degrees from Harvard, has run a (real) state, and has his his family situation in good order. If you tell me that this isn’t important, that Palin’s multiple flaws and weak background aren’t a problem, I call you a liar. More and more turds float to the top of the punchbowl. The Pubbies may dump her yet. ---

The repubs have offered zero programs. They have come up with no solutions for bank failures, financial institutions failing, inflation, a continuing unpopular war, a crushing national debt and foreclosures. All they have given is a snarky cheerleader who only did personal attacks. Bricker thinks they are being above the fray. Sure thing. All they have done is personal attacks against Obama. That is their program. ---

You can’t possibly infer anything about their phone conversations from some third party’s retelling of the circumstances. For all you know, the doctor kept telling her _not_ to fly, but she was insistent that she’d be fine and would stay in touch. What could the doctor do about it from halfway across the country? The _only_ thing you can safely infer from that quote is that the doctor specifically said she did not give Palin the OK to fly because Palin never asked for it. ---

If **Bricker** can’t make an intelligent decision about his vote, he shouldn’t vote at all. Really, selecting who you want to be president based on the behavior of some of his supporters is up there with “eenie meenie miney moe”. I could understand the OP if you were innocent lamb, but you’ve shown yourself to be a jerk NUMEROUS times. You’ve lobbied all kinds of insults and distortions at opponents while you’ve participated on this board. Your own hands are sullied, so where do you get off claiming the moral highground? I never believed that you were in Obama’s corner. And I think your mea culpa is just another way of fishing for praise and saving face. You aren’t genuine, and I’m through with you. If you can’t vote intelligent and rationally, then don’t vote at all. Neither Obama or McCain needs your vote THAT badly. ---

As for the general subject of this thread, all i can say to **Bricker** is this: If all it was ever going to take for you to renege on your support for Obama was some unbecoming behavior by some of his supporters, i submit that you were never at all serious about voting for him in the first place. Basically, the reason that you’ve given for withdrawing your support can lead to no logical conclusion except that your so-called support was never honest or genuine. I’m not at all bothered by your decision not to vote for Obama. It’s clear that McCain’s politics are far more in line with your own, and if i shared your politics i’d probably vote for McCain too. It’s just a shame that your perfectly logical choice has been expressed in such an embarrassing and self-serving manner. You actually strike me as something like the SDMB’s equivalent of John McCain—someone whom people kept defending as an honest and upright and moderate person, even when they disagreed with you, but who is actually just as selfish and corrupt and partisan as the people he takes to task. You’re just another politician, just like McCain. The only reason you think you’re not in the shit is that you’re so used to it that it’s part of your very nature. ---

Like many others here, I also have grown to greatly respect **Bricker** , realizing that he was one of the most reasonable, intelligent, and principled members of this board. This OP is a big, big let down, Bricker, not because you’ve decided to vote for McCain after all, but because of puerile, gloating, rub-it-in-your face tone. You just belly flopped off the moral high ground. Most of us Obama supporters actually _are_ following his example. The problem is, as always, that those who are not are getting all the attention. Any criticism I’ve leveled at Palin, here and elsewhere, has assiduously avoided touching on anything to do with her family. I’m confident you’ll find the same is true of the majority of Obama supportes. Or, you can be short-sighted, and let your choices be driven by a lunatic, ethics-lacking, and actually rather puny minority. Bricker, I respect you despite the likes of Shodan and Starving Artist. Because they’re not you. The small number of moron leftists who are trying to use Palin’s family as ammunition aren’t me, aren’t everyone who supports Obama on this board, and more importantly, aren’t Obama. But I’m not hoping you’ll return to voting for Obama as much as I’m hoping the mature, well-reasoned, worthy-of-respect Bricker will come back. ---
