You misunderstand, **mhendo**. It isn’t that I don’t think these issues should have been addressed, it was the throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater way they were addressed that I’m contemptuous of. I’m sure you feel it was necessary to acheive the changes that took place. I think a more mature, pragmatic approach would have been better. It has nothing to do with hating poor people, women or Communists. And on preview, nor does it have anything to do with hating faggots, darkies and weirdos (though it does appear that the latter seems to have found a home at last here on the Straight Dope). 😃 I’m having a very busy day, and in fact I won’t have time to participate further until tonight at the earliest. I’ll just say in parting that my posts were meant to express my opinion only. I’m certainly not naive enough to think I’ll find much in the way of approbation around here. ---

But **Starving Artist** was the one who first used the term idyllic, and even if we’re simply being comparative rather than absolute, i don’t think the '50s and early '60s qualifies. ---
