Sorry, totally fair warning and you got off lightly, IMHO, as paranoid as they are about quote boxes*
*Which is a stupid thing to be paranoid about, but them’s the (stupid, hyper-overeactive) rule and there’s nothing ambiguous about them. “Snip” fine “Snip stupid stuff” not.

We have always considered screwing around with quotes to be wrong and have always dinged people for it. Even for “humorous” causes. You just don’t do it.

It’s not right. It’s not even funny. You just don’t do it.

Someone offers to bring legal action, that in and of itself is cause for immediate banning, all on its own.

That’s my opinion. Asking for a review would mean reviewing all the circumstances involved. Based on my evaluation, the OP could at best hope for changing the reason for the warning, and at worst could end up with an additional warning.

The reason for the warning has little practical effect. If it comes to the point where someone has accumulated enough warnings for us to be discussing a suspension or banning, we’ll generally review the warnings individually. (At least I do.) Since the OP actually committed multiple infractions in the thread, it’s going to be evaluated pretty much the same regardless of what reason is listed.

But the point is, he wouldn’t have been complaining about that Warning if it hadn’t been given to him for what you admit was an improper reason for a Warning, as you do not warn people for responding to a mod note (or even Warning) in the wrong thread. The only thing you ever Warn people when that happens is violating moderator instructions to not discuss it.

So you can’t count anything that happened after tomndebb gave the improper Warning. So all you have is editing the quote. And I’ll point out that you usually don’t give out Warnings for that, either.

So the actual best outcome, and the one consistent with how you normally moderate would be for him not to get a Warning. And I say that even though I am not a fan of Snowboarder Bo’s posting style.

BigT, this thread has been dormant for a month and a half. I don’t know why you have gotten into the habit of bumping weeks- and months-old ATMB threads, but it’s getting a little ridiculous. If you want to contribute to a thread and discuss some issue, please do it in a reasonably prompt manner. I am locking this thread.
