Kythereia and Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor - Many thanks for responding to me. No, I will try not to disappoint you, Goddess. I have been hearing rumors about Iampunha can’t wait for that showing of nekkidness. And, so very sorry for the Plaque, hives, famine, etc. but I gotta stick with what I got. Although very amusing, not sure I’d be too comfortable with toxic underpants. Hope you understand, it’s a teacher “thang”. ---

Hello, **For the Children!** I like your name, for one. Sometimes you’ll see somebody use the phrase “Won’t someone PLEASE think of the children?!” in a sarcastic way, but that’s a Simpsons reference that long predates you. 😃 I don’t know how long you’ve been lurking, but just make sure you get an idea of some of the characters around here and how to deal with them. Some use more extravagant language than others but they’re most often the ones who have the most facts at their fingertips; if they’re not, they’re usually raked over the coals after a while. Politically, the board skews liberal (the fact that it’s on the Net lowers the age below the norm, and the SD column appears mostly in lefty alternative newspapers) but conservatives, socially, religiously, and politically, are also among our most valued posters, as long as they’re articulate and respectful. While the board is American-based, you’ll also meet terrific people from all around the planet (I’m guessing you’re American) and get some perspectives you wouldn’t otherwise hear. We also tend to use good spelling, good grammar, and do not use cutesy abbreviations or leetspeak, although from your writing that won’t be a problem with you. Cute fluffy wide-eyed newbies are allowed to wander around and explore, making gaffes, for a couple of months, so enjoy! The only cardinal rule is: Don’t be a jerk. You’ll find out that different people and different forums have different criteria for jerkdom, but most decent people strike a happy balance pretty soon. Looks like you’re well on your way! ---

Thank you Kythereia. Thank you as well Mehitabel for the very nice welcome and VERY welcomed advice/info. I really just found this site this morning and decided to “test” it out and have been enjoying myself in the process. I have met some very straightforward folks and some joksters, too. I have been enjoying both and hope I get to know more people as well. You assume correctly that I am American. I have known others from around the world and am always open to other points of view. I believe it is how we grow as individuals. I am very open to all so if I ever say anything inappropriate ( which would hopefully be never) please feel free to call me on it. Although I don’t think most people have a problem telling someone they stepped out of line. But, I am quite receptive to all. So, here’s hoping I never am a jerk. 😃 ---

These get-togethers are generically called “DopeFests”. While the rest of us take notes. 😃 I might add that “skewing liberal” is probably in US terms; to me as a Canadian, I finf this board to be broadly centrist, but so diverse that that description is almost meaningless. I have learned more about religious philosophy, voting systems, art, power-plant economics, Chick tracts, music, Tolkein minutia, math, cartooning, debating techniques, movies, and all sorts of other things, on the SDMB, than I ever dreamed possible. ---

They’ve nothing to do with illegal drugs, fortunately, although I understand that people crossing borders have to be careful when explaining to immigration officials the reason for their visit… Here’s the short version (I think) of "It’s a small world… When I found this site this morning I had NO clue it was the site that a neighbor of mine (NorineW) uses. She recently held a dopefest at her home (with much teasing from we, her niehbors). So, I will be looking forward to attending one myself. I was very surprised but happy to discover someone I knew here. I wonder how many others there are lurking. So, anyhow, I hope to meet you someday at a DopeFest and will enjoy talking with you until then. Of course none of this applies to THE ritual! :eek: ---
