Threatening to nuke the USA = suicidally stupid. This is the point where I for one am no longer content with sanctions. At this point I think we should make it known that we will no longer negotiate with the North Korean regime. We will not sit down at the same table, or even speak through intermediaries. We will not give them so much as a single grain of rice, not even for Humanitarian reasons. They get nothing. Zip, Nada, Nothing. Until they announce to the entire world that they have made a mistake, that they apologize to the USA, to South Korea, to Japan and to China for all the threats they have made, and then show, for a fair amount of time (say a year or more) that they will not make any further threats. Only then should we consider even speaking to them again. Fuck you, Kim Jong Un, and your little sociopathic dictatorship too. Burn in the Hell of your own feces, eternally fucked in the ass by the people whose lives you have ruined. ---

Yea I have to agree, I was like wait did he just say THAT?! But here is the problem, no one wants to deal with the humanitarian disaster that will occur when (not if) Best Korea implodes, so I expect nothing will happen and everyone will just drag their feet. ---

The threats don’t bother me as much as the fact that the little shit and his henchman are fucking over the citizens of North Korea and topping it off by brainwashing them into saying, “thank you sir, may I have another load of shit”. ---

In the 1990’s, it is estimated that 1 in 10 people died of starvation. The rest of the population is so malnourished that it has stunted their growth. It’s probably not much better now. Minimum height for the army had to be changed from 5’3” to 5’. Another thread recommended the book ‘Nothing to Envy’. It’s fantastic. A journalist visits NK and also interviews defectors. It’s truly astonishing what the regime has people believing. And the level of poverty is incredible. ---

North Korea says these kinds of things for a reason, so when they make crazy statements you always have to consider the context. The UN Security Council just approved new sanctions on North Korea in response to that nuclear test last month. The Kim government is trying to warn everybody they’ll be sorry if they set up new sanctions or take other measures to punish the country. That’s usually what these pronouncements are about. Things in North Korea have been horrible for a long time. The population is either too crippled by hunger or too cocooned from the real world to do anything. It’s hard to imagine they’ll ever rise up and overthrow the people who have the food and the weapons. I guess you could imagine a military takeover if they thought Kim Jong-Un was about to get them all killed, although there’s not much reason to think that’s going to happen at this point. ---

Meh. I can threaten to nuke Washington too, and it’ll be only slightly less credible. It’s hard for me to get to the OP’s level of outrage over a fat toddler throwing a temper tantrum. I think we should do something, mind you–say, a surgical strike on the famous artillery batteries trained on Seoul, at least–but it’s not the stuff of emotion for me. It’s closer to pest control, and I honestly get much angrier with cockroaches than I do with Kim Jong Un-icorn. ---
