Ok memorial weekend 1977 your at the movies which one would or did you see

I didn’t see either Memorial Day Weekend. I saw Star Wars opening day in the suburbs, which was July 6th. I had been pumped to see it ever since I read the cover article in Scholastic’s My Weekly Reader in school.

I eventually saw Smokey and the Bandit when it was on network TV, but it wasn’t on my radar that summer. My biggest confusion as a California native… “why would anybody go to such ridiculous lengths for Coors? That’s piss-water.” (according to all the older kids and parents in the neighborhood - I was only about 12 or 13 and wasn’t much of a beer drinker yet) I wasn’t aware that at that time it was hard to come by on the East Coast and was regarded as a boutique beer. In California we considered it a mass market beer available anywhere along with Bud and Miller. The high school joke was it was “making love in a canoe - in other words, fucking close to water”

Yeah, that’s a stretch. I know I saw Star Wars, but no idea if it was early or late in the release. I don’t usually make an effort to go to “opening day.” So, who knows. That was long time ago. I never saw Smokey and the Bandit, so that’s easy.

I remember I was 3 years old and going to see Smokey and the Bandit with my parents at the local drive-in in Virginia Beach. I was put in my pajamas, was asleep in the back of the station wagon most of the time, but I remember some scenes from back then

And I also remember seeing 20th Century Fox’s big 1977 sci-fi entry. No, not Star Wars - Damnation Alley. My memories of that one are a bit hazy. Something about Banachek fighting giant cockroaches in a big-ass RV.
