Well, as I said, apparently the detective has been reluctant to really go digging until he covered all of the other bases, especially since she’s a grown woman with every right to run off if she wants to. The only credit card that I _know_ is being tracked at this point is the company credit card, because my boss is doing the tracking (well, he cancelled it on Monday, but transactions could still get posted late). The detective does have her SS#, so I’m guessing that he’ll use it for something soon . . . ---

Yeah, I must admit this whole scenario is merely hours away from being seriously worrisome. I’m actually kind of a holdout for a next Monday return – given her history of disappearances she may have taken her two-weeks vacation without telling anyone. Strangely, the thing I find _most_ troublesome isn’t Trucker, but Mystery Man. She’s been telling people she’s _marrying_ some guy, but has never mentioned him by name??? No one knows who he is at all??? This is all very similar to a bipolar acquaintance of mine who ran off to Costa Rica to marry a guy she’d met on the net (she was 19 at the time and has since left him.) Given MC’s history flightiness, I’m still betting on “manic” (and oh, bipolar folks can pull stunts like this and worry you silly). Manic stunts can get you in really hot water though because you tend to be awfully reckless with respect to your good judgement, so she could still have gotten herself into some way-over-her-head deep doo-doo. If Detective says there has been NO action at all on her credit card or bank – then I’ll start some serious brick shitting. ---

They really need to get into that apartment and car. They need to ck out her mail, her answering machine, see if any clothes, toiletries, suitcases, etc. are missing, see if any there are any receipts or anything about… Could be some vital clues!! I wonder what’s going on in the rest of the SDBM? ---

My devoted viewership of shows like CSI, Forensic Files, and The New Detectives prevent me from espousing an optimistic outcome for your co-worker, **auntie em** , but that’s probably just the drama queen/hysteric in me. What’s the detective like? Can you provide a bored and not-nearly-caffeinated-enough temp with a description? Does he wear a hat? IMHO, it’s not a real investigation _until_ a psychic gets involved. ---

**auntie em** , do you know if she has a history of drug or alcohol abuse? People keep bringing that up as a possibility, but I thought the only behavior you ever mentioned was erratic and possibly thrill-seeking/risk-taking behavior (her hinting at a wild private life with strangers she met through the Internet). I’m totally torn: she’s either dead in a ditch somewhere or shacking up with some guy, oblivious. ---

**a35362** , as far as I know, she doesn’t drink NOW, but: a) I’ve known her to imbibe when we all used to go out drinking together (those evenings sort of subsided when my boss got married)–but even then, she kept it to one or two glasses of wine, and b) She sometimes brags about her wild past, when smoking, drinking and partying kept her at around 100 lbs. (she’s short, so it’s not an unrealistic picture), whereas now she’s constantly battling with her weight. In short, she hasn’t always abstained, but I don’t know about ABUSE . . . My sister (who just called from Michigan for an update) thinks that her disappearance is related to her Mysterious Cancer-Scented Illness–basically, that she doesn’t want anyone to know she’s sick, so she’s off secretly getting chemo or radiation or surgery somewhere. But at the risk of her JOB . . . ? ---

In answer to your question, I know I’M not getting shit done, but then I must confess that given the lax environment, I quite often spend my days putzing around on the internet! I think that one of my coworkers is trying to carry on as usual, but I think my boss is pretty preoccupied with this. He has attended a couple of meetings and such, but I’ve noticed that he’s quick to snatch up the phone when it rings! ---

Is there any way to check if her medical insurance has been used? Assuming she has medical coverage where you work. Then we could know if she was being treated for the mysterious Cancer-Scented Illness, or has been admitted to a hospital somewhere. ---
