> I do not think my European fellows are so bigoted as to turn to the fascist solutions yet and it is a passing problem because there will be a great crack-down by the police. The uncontrolled chaotic flows were never not going to have a problem like this, it is not possible for large numbers of uprooted young men - no matter their background - to pass like this without problems.
>
> With controls and crack down, the problem passes - and further the idiots among the Harraga will be also punished by their own fellows for bringing attention.
>
> I appreciate it very much, I experience the backlash and the bigotries myself directly - it is not just theory for me like it is for you people.

I started by saying America is a few years behind Europe I still believe that, Matters in Europe are escalating and it does not help that governments have been operating a cover up and people are starting to realise this. The problem is not passing and most certainly not limited to Germany the problem is through out northern Europe and has been for over 5 years. Traditional Muslims are not helping themselves with repeated denials and quoting the Quran to tell us how good Islam is and how merciful Allah is, an example, after a court case in the U.K. Muslim men were found guilty of sexually abusing underage girls. The Sunday after the case on a Sunday morning live program (The Big Question BBC) a Mosque leader denied that they were Muslims and did not attend the Mosque, he was horrified when a member of his congregation stood up and called him a liar, the guilty men attended the Mosque on a regular basis and that the Mosque leader knew them had shaken them by the hand and had spoken with them on many occasions. Muslims are in denial and if they do not start to clean their house we will see the rise of the far right and that is the last thing myself or any sane person wants to see. I am not anti Muslim I am against the cancer that is invading Islam and it seems to be winning

> That you need to look to the military for incidents similar to those of Cologne is rather telling, I think.

_ **Rather telling? Need to?** _ **What complete excusing bullshit.** It is simply that Broomstick has already linked to the source that easily from wiki had other links to other incidents - not something I “had to” go to, it was provided conveniently, it is showing within a highly regimented Western culture institution, the repeated problem. This is merely the answer to the essentiallist culture rubbish asserted by the bigotted, who race to this every time. If the Western or the American culture was somehow more advanced about “rape” then it should not be a case that such a thing returns again and again in that highly controlled environnement. But it does.

Of course Broomstick has already provided another link to non military incident almost exactly the same as Cologne - I can expect her as american to know these incidents better than me.

But of course for every example there is some contextualizing excuse why it is not a pan amerian culture issue. So it is equally in other contexts that the non-hypocritical non bigots can realize if they reflect and think

> [@Grim\_Render](#):
>
> Aaaaand the Whataboutism gets of to a running start.

If people are going to make essentialist cultural arguments about all muslims and not only comment on the actual actors, and make pretensions that their own culture is better on rape, then they have to face the other examples.

It is not “whataboutism” it is “anti-hypocrisy” - no need for the other examples if they do not write sweeping claims.

No I have not in any way.

> [@](#):

> Sure, there are liberal places in the muslim world, where woman wear short sleeves and demand their rights.

Yes, for it is relevant to the many sweeping ignorant statements by many here about the “Muslim countries” and the “muslim nations” and the usual bigotted muslims evil hive mind discourse.

Hijab.

Of course it is usual that the refugees (and the pseudo-refugees) taking the mediatized routes - walking the train tracks - are going to be the poorest and they are also the likliest to be the most culturally conservative - reactionary even.

It is not my point there are not the problems - it is my reaction that the ignorant sweeping statements about “muslim countries” and culture is wrong, based on wrong assumptions.

Haha, how funny and connected to the pictures of women in the streets of Tunis… Oh no, not at all.

But what can we expect from someone who reads the racist and hateful professional bigot Pamela Geller and quotes her without being ashamed…?

Of course I guess he can not object if I pop into a thread about the USA to tell people when I think of the USA I think of the multiple shooting - massacres in schools the USA experiences r[egularly, constantl](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States#21st_century)y… yes that will be a rationale thing to do (no in fact it would merely show idiotic prejudice).

It is nice you join a Geller quoter in a statement so stupidly disconnected.

What is “representative” of a single criminal of Tunis? By such hypocritical non-logic, [Jimmy Saville](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Savile_sexual_abuse_scandal)is “representative” of the United Kingdom and the gross hypocrisy of the British.
Or perhaps the participation in the faking of the intelligence dossiers with the Americans to justify the war of agression against the Iraq, that somehow becomes relevant…

No, I do not think it is presumptive at all

> [@](#):
>
> Of course, but the legacy of that will remain for _generations_, it will affect European policy greatly, it will disadvantage alot of genuine people. Hence why it is by definition absolutely _not_ a ‘passing problem’

I do not share the overheated internet rhetoric about this, it is merely the usual internet dramatic-statement-seeking.

A cumulation of refugee incidents is not a passing problem, but i\*\*n the context of what point \*\ ***I replied to** (the implication the Germans for safety would be served by the american gun laws), it is a passing problem. Continuing ripping the statement out of the actual context… is boring.

> It’s also a huge propaganda victory for the far right, and the narrative will be written as ‘See how we welcomed these people in, and they first bomb us, and then try to attack our women and steal from us all within one year’ It’s sad.

If there is no action and further incidents go on that is not passing. This incident, it is passing whatever the overheated internet rhetoric wants - internet rhetoric always loves the drama of Important Events commenting…

Well - he posted that in response to Ramira’s statement that not all of the Islamic world is like Saudi Arabia. I suppose he believes that it is.

I would agree with you. To an extent both are representative. We would be blind to think that the modern, open minded Muslims that Ramira is showing in her pictures are the only ones there are. But it would be just as wrong to treat every Muslim as a potential mindless fanatic just because some of them are. Wrong and entirely unhelpful.

First, I can not see how a single terrorist incident can be ‘representative’ of a country - if this is so than the Tim McVeigh is representative of the USA.

but second, I emphasize made no statement about the women being “open minded” and reject this idea that some how they are better than a hidjab wearer in their thinking. The photos illustrate one thing - that in ordinary life the ordinary people are not in the Saudi style clothing and in fact dress in ways that would not get one second comment in any western city.

the ignorant stereotype that we are all walking around looking like photos of the Saudis is what I am illustrating against.

Islam is not a country it is a global religion that is at odds with those who do not follow the Islamic faith. If you visit Bradford England you will find the majority of Muslim woman looking as though they have just stepped of the plane from Saudi

It threatens not just a spike in terrorism but a rebirth of 1930s-style political violence. Alright, if that’s what you think, there’s not much I can do about that. You seem to be under the impression that situations like what happened on NYE doesn’t necessarily correlate a hugely negative impression, which in turn has implications further down the road.

I don’t deny this, but you seem to be oblivious to the longer term cultural memory of incidents like this, which make it all the more harder to defend refugees and asylum seekers.

Since you are calling it “excellent”, I assume you share the opinion of that columnist. Fine - let’s roll with that. What do you suggest:
“Angela Merkel must go.” Who do we replace her with? You would prefer Frauke Petry? Lutz Bachmann? How far right would you have us go?
We should be “closing Germany’s borders” for the time being. That would require us to revoke our commitment to the Geneva refugee convention and change the Grundgesetz, but ok. What then? Do we erect a fence at our southern border as Hungary did?
We should be “beginning an orderly deportation process”. What is that supposed to mean? Deportation to where? To Syria? All questions of the morality of such an undertaking aside, how are we supposed to perform this? Do you suggest negotiating with Assad, so he would allow our transports in?

According to German news magazine Stern [1], 10 days ago, French President Hollande told French socialists that he thinks Angela Merkel has simply gone mad.

Several weeks ago, Merkel appeared on national TV to be interviewed about the refugee crisis (that was before the NYE attacks and, I believe, before the Paris attacks). Angela Merkel at one point referred to herself in the third person: “the chancellor thinks” and “the chancellor says”. It was absolutely surreal, no other German politician, any normal person, for that matter, would have talked like this since the 19th century.

> If I break my arm saying that person over there got burns over 50% of his body does not reduce the seriousness of my injury, or my pain. It just says that I was not the mostly seriously injured. More like getting your arm broke then being told, “Well I’m very sorry about that, but you have to remember the man that did it once sustained 50% burns to his body”. How is that reassuring or even helpful?

And as several people have commented only a minority of immigrants are causing problems, is that not an argument for proper border controls, checks and procedures? So we can winnow the problematic minority out? I’m not sure how that’s even controversial.

Personally, and I’m fairly sure its the same for a lot of people, its the sheer scale and lack of checks that concerns me regarding immigration. I’ve heard all sorts of theories as to why its being allowed to take place, some more plausible than others, the most likely being that its for economic reasons to provide a solid and sustainable working population of younger people to suppost the pensions and other outlay of the European states.

That’s fine, again personally I would be concerned regarding issues of integration and dilution of host nations culture, but we are not having the reasons explained properly by the powers that be, a large percentage of the European population feels that their concerns are not being taken seriously or addressed and that when they raise them they are simply being shouted down as racists.

We need a proper national and European wide debate on this issue, rather than having policies enforced on us by dictat.

I think it is an argument indeed for improved verifications, I do not even think it is a great idea for bringing the hundreds of thousands of the Syrians to europe where the integration will be difficult.

it would be better for the EU to invest heavily in the resettlement and the positive employment programs in the first refuge countries, and the program with the Turkey just launched should be better and less shyly funded.
