OK, tell me about this Netflix Internet thing

I’ve tried to hook the Wii up to our Mac’s wireless sharing, and it’s not working with consistent error messages. I will be attempting to find the regular router that we’ve got around here somewhere to hook up the Wii so that we can watch Netflix streaming on our projector.

I loved Netflix when it was new for documentaries, and now I’m getting sucked in to instant streaming for the same reason. So many interesting and novel ideas, all stored for me to watch at my leisure!

We have a Roku and use both Netflix streaming with one DVD and HuluPlus. We don’t watch much on HuluPlus, but there are a few things we like on there. My 5 year old knows how to use the remote, so he and his brother can watch all of their favorite shows without my assistance while I’m over here on the computer doing whatever I want. Also, my husband has re-discovered his love of bad 80s/90s sitcoms.

I have a PS3 that I use for Netflix Instant and it is fantastic. There are a ton of tv shows on there. I think the selection in television and documentaries is a bit better than for movies. But, if there is an old non-HBO cult favorite that you missed on the first go round? It’s probably there so that you can catch up. Veronica Marrs? Check. Battlestar Galatica? Check. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel and Dollhouse? Triple check. Parks and Rec? Check. Larry Sanders Show? Check. (Huh. That was an HBO show. Guess, it is old enough that they don’t mind having it streaming.) Andy Griffith Show? Check. Huh. Guess that doesn’t fit. Still. There are a ton of things to choose from. And, if you have kids, the selection is monstrous. And, there a lot of movies there, too. Just mostly older stuff. You won’t find many new releases in Instant Streaming.

As has been said you can set your Wii to access Instant Netflix without having to pay any additional fees. Although, I wasn’t a big fan of the Wii selection screen. I far prefer the PS3’s or Roku’s. But, since you already have it. That’s the easiest way to try it out.

You can still get the DVDs. It’s worth it if you find that you would like to watch a new release now and then, or just want to check out movies that aren’t available for streaming.

I think they run deals were you get the first month free. Or maybe half off. See if that is being offered and you can try it pretty cheap.

Netflix + Apple TV is a good combo, smoothly executed.

Netflix + iPad is an equally good combo.

Whenever we are on vacation, my wife watches movies on her iPad in the hotel while we are relaxing after a day of whatever.

I have the Apple TV and love it! There is so much content available to watch on Netflix that I ditched cable. I think Comcast was about $50 a month with nothing but terrible programming. I’m paying $7.99 a month for Netflix.
