I’m not talking about the scarves to keep you warm, but the “fashion” scarves. I just started wearing them last winter, and I have not paid attention to if people wore them when it is warm outside or not. ---

Do you care a lot about fashion? Honestly, I think those scarves look lovely - if accessorized correctly - all year round. ---

I’ve worked in corporate offices where the women wore silk scarves all year round. That being said, it was a heavily air-conditioned environment. I don’t think anyone wants extra ANYTHING wrapped around their necks at 80+ degrees. ---

Yes, of course. But a light silky or wispy summery scarf, of course. And not while walking around outside on a hot humid day - in an air conditioned environment is OK, where you might be a bit more dressed up. ---

Here in Boston/Cambridge, not only do they wear scarves any time of year, they wear cowboy boots when it’s 80 degrees outside and flip-flops in the winter. p.s. – And I mean outside on the street, not just inside an office. ---

I’ve seen people do it. I don’t–I’m just not a scarf person myself, but if you want to, I say rock that look. ETA: The boot look on the other hand–not OK! I get hot just looking at those folks. ---

Sure. I do agree with having scarves with lighter fabrics, though, as it’s warmer outside. I’m so glad I’m allowed to wear scarves at work. The exhibit I work in is FREEZING, and I just got a haircut that exposes the back of my neck, which just makes it worse. So I wear a turtleneck or scarf, and voila! Another vote for, “Heck, yes!” There may be personal comfort reasons for not wearing scarves in the warmer months, but it’s certainly not a fashion “Don’t.” ---

I like wearing scarves in the spring - both for fashion and practical reasons. They’re also convenient for hiding hickeys. ---

In Spanish, “the ones to keep warm” are called bufandas, “the ones for looking pretty” are called pañuelos. They’re considered distinct items, among other things, because they are worn in different weather. I think you’ll have to get my mother’s and sister-in-law’s silk scarves off their dead hands, while those of us who aren’t good at the whole elegance thing wear them only for the summer fiestas. One of the reasons to wear scarves when it’s 40C is that you can wet the scarf to help you survive the trip in between shadowed areas.
