OK, Wikipedia, we get it.

They’ll be holding the pitchforks with one hand, of course.

This.

I make my living from producing intellectual property and am a frequent victim to copyright violation, I am still strongly against SOPA and PIPA. It’s like using a nuclear bomb to solve a mosquito problem.

Thanks. I was wondering why Wikipedia was working for me… gotta love NoScript!

SDMB = brain porn.

(that’s not a pitchfork I’m holding)

(sorry, there’s brain bleach in the pantry if you’d like)

I can access my preferences, watchlist and contributions pages, but not my user page or talk page.

We saw what you did there.

If people talking about SOPA/PIPA is annoying you call your congress folk and tell them your thoughts on the matter. “Tell the congressman this SOPA thing seems stupid.” Bam. Done.

And for those Americans opposed to this, all you have to do is look up your rep and your senators on Google (or on Wikipedia if you have NoScript :)) and they will have a contact form on their website. You don’t need to compose an eloquent letter, just jot down a note to them that this seems like a bad idea. Their staffers do care about the public’s opinion and it does influence how they vote.

U.S. Senate
U.S. House

If you don’t know your specific representative and senators, both websites have easy search tools to identify them. All you need is your state to look up your senators and your zip code to look up your representative.

And dear gods, we wish we could unsee it.

Or you can go here and everything is done for you.

Done.

If you think a single, planned, short-term blackout is inconvenient for your tutoring work now, just wait until SOPA passes and Wikipedia is liable to be taken down completely unexpectedly for arbitrary periods (meaning hours, days, weeks, or even indefinitely) due to someone filing a copyright infringement notice.

Done. Thanks for the link!

Looks like the protest may have achieved something.

Letters sent. Hopefully they’ll be read and not just by the autoanswer-bot.

My apologies.

Done^2

I wonder how much good it’ll do to send a letter to Elanore Holmes-Norton.

Done!
I added a P.S. that said "I look forward to your canned response letter that will either discuss a topic completely different than the one I wrote you about, or thank me for supporting your views on the subject which is the opposite of what I actually said. I’m sure you will not fail to disappoint me by not even acting as if you care about what I think after doing so for the last nine letters I wrote.

If they don’t sent me a letter thanking me for supporting their efforts to pass SOPA, Or their fight against abortion, I will be shocked.

From Time:

We aren’t the only ones who got it…

(I enjoy Wikipedia & take it for what it is. But–does anybody really use it for tutoring?)
