I used to think I’d want to be with a guy that was slender, not too tall, could play the guitar, loved Simon and Garfunkel, had a sense of humor, and shared similar interests with me (probably a geeky liberal arts major who reads lots of fantasy and watches Japanese anime). My current boyfriend is a foot taller than me (though he is slim), hasn’t a nodding acquaintance with any kind of instrument, likes listening to AC/DC (!!!), and didn’t know who Robert Jordan was or what “fanfic” meant before I met him. In addition he is not a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. He IS a fan of motorsports (when we met, I didn’t know Lewis Hamilton or Valentino Rossi from a hole in the ground). But he is a handsome, charming, funny, intelligent man with a heart of gold and the ability to laugh at himself, so I love him to bits. ---

Smart. Very, very, frighteningly, wickedly, scathingly _smart_. There are other things that factor into it, of course, some of which can be negotiated and some of which can’t. But if we’re talking about things that grab my _entire_ focus before any words have even been exchanged, it’s that look of alertness and awareness that says you are paying attention to things around you, extracting information from context and subtitles even if you don’t follow the obvious interactions, and sifting out any particularly interesting bits for later. ---

Intelligent, introverted (though sociable introverts are best), knowledgeable, kind and moral. Physically: thin and lean pretty boys with plenty of testosterone. Dark coloring (hair, eyes, skin) preferred. ---

Me: short, bald, physically-fit 44 year old guy. More important than anything else, I like a woman who is genuinely happy. I see so many women walking around with frowns all day (Why do they do that??), which is a \*\*\*huge \*\*\*turn off. There is nothing more attractive than a woman who loves life, smiles, and is genuinely happy. On the physical front, I like short and petite women. ---

I’ve had girlfriends who were blondes, brunettes, redheads. They’ve been short and tall; statuesque, Rubenesque, slender; big-breasted, small breasted, and everything else in between. You know what? They were all beautiful to me! All I ask is that my ideal woman has good health, a good heart, and a good mind. What do I look at first? Her eyes and her smile. Then her legs, her hair, and maybe her bottom. If she has a big bust, that’s great. If she doesn’t, I won’t necessarily sweat it. It’s when she opens her mouth to speak that I decide whether or not I’m truly interested in her. I don’t want someone a lot like me, but we should share at least some interests. Being able to work together in the kitchen, or relax and listen to music, or just sit in silence and enjoy each other’s company is hugely important. So is having a sense of proportion and a modicum of common sense. ---

Yeah **terentii** , you got it. Since I’ve had my OP quoted back at me twice now, I will say that my current gal has all of the personality markers that I look for, and that counts for far more than the physical stuff, tho to be honest I still need some physical attributes to \ glom onto. Fortunately she’s got that too-yes she’s petite-including a sweet little butt. I’m not about to request that she cut off her waist-long hair, tho I am 100% positive that she would look mindblowingly hot with a pixie cut. Then again I’d find her hot if she wore a potato sack with curlers in her hair. ---

She has to like dogs. Can’t be friends with anyone that doesn’t. Other than that, of course I prefer a fit body, nothing too curvy. I do not like big breasts. Short dark hair is a plus. Instant turn-on is pretty much any non-fat East Asian or Hispanic woman of nearly any age. Although other caucasians can catch up quickly if they are attractive enough, and with time I notice the flaws of East Asian or Hispanic women more and more as I know them. Those of South Asian or African descent I’m just not attracted to despite the fact that many of them are objectively beautiful, and even have an objectively attractive personality. I don’t notice personality much when I first measure a girl’s attractiveness unless she’s really stupid or mean. Being geeky is of course a good way to have something in common with a girl, so that can help if we have shared interests, but being geeky per se is not a bonus to attractiveness. ---

In addition I ought to add really long legs. For an actual idea, for European women please look up the paintings of the pre-Rapahaelities and for East Asian women google search “Kim Ha Neul”. ---

-black dudes, medium-ish complexion -taller than me (5’4), preferably at least a few inches, but no big deal -slim but muscular build (well, unless he’s short, then I guess he should be kind of stocky [but not stalky!]) -I can’t stress this enough: curly hair, the kind that grows in little circles -kind of pretty but kind of rough looking (it can be done) -I really like what is known as chinky eyes even though that’s racist -if he has facial hair then keep it really clean cut (I don’t mind if head hair is a little overgrown, actually I like it) Donald Glover is a good example of almost all of these criteria. None of these are set in stone, of course. A lot of the guys I’ve been the most into didn’t fit very well. Lots of baldies who would look bad with hair anyway. But I will never stop loving circle curls. ---

If you look at the 4 guys I dated most seriously over the years, including the one that I married, they have a lot in common. [ul] [li]about 5’9"-5’10" tall[/li][li]average to slightly pudgy build[/li][li]full beard and mustache (one of the 4 only had a 'stache)[/li][li]slightly skewed sense of humor[/li][/ul] I’m pretty sure I married the best of the lot. 😃 ---
