Okay, I give up - reccomend some comedies.

I’ve always liked Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman, and an uncredited Bill Murray, who really steals the show with some classic lines. It’s funny, has great performances (Terri Garr is wonderful), and isn’t one of those “over the top” comedies. You will laugh out loud!

THE WRONG GUY with Dave Foley.

Except Punch-Drunk Love, which is brilliant, but that’s because it’s a Paul Thomas Anderson film. The OP has such good taste in movies he’s probably already seen this one.

I like just about all of the films that have already been mentioned. Here’s one I haven’t seen yet:

Galaxy Quest - It’s goofy-looking, and I thought the previews looked terrible, but someone I trusted said it was good so we gave it a try, and LOVED it! If nothing else, it’s worth seeing for Sam Rockwell, hilarious as “Guy,” the anonymous crewmember who usually gets killed in the first 5 minutes.

I thought Barbershop and Undercover Brother were both pretty funny, UB moreso.

My favorite comedy from the last few years is the Coen Brothers’ O Brother, Where Art Thou? but I adore everything they do (including the oft-mentioned The Big Lebowski).
And yes, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is a classic!!

Try Brain Donors, a damn funny pastiche of A Night At The Opera.

The Magic Christian – available from Netflix
** Harold and Maude**
Eating Raoul
Airplane
Joe Dirt
Used Cars

Old School

Withnail And I, if you haven’t already seen it.

A bit older than 2 years, but you must see Living in Oblivion, with Steve Buscemi. When I first watched it, we had to pause the tape because we were laughing so hard we were missing some jokes.

Are you serious or joking? I absolutely adore Dave Foley and Jennifer Tilly; but that movie was horrible. I thought the first few minutes were promising and was gearing up for a great movie. But then once he went on the lam, it just didn’t work for me. Maybe I should see it again and give it a second chance.

Whisky Galore!
Genevieve
The Lavender Hill Mob
Passport To Pimlico
School For Scoundrels
The Man In The White Suit
The Jokers
Bedazzled
Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush
The Secret Of Santa Vittoria

Thanks for all the reccomendations. I’ll be bookmarking this thread and using it as a reference before I go to rent a movie.

KarmaComa- Yeah, I liked Bruce Almighty. Not as much as The Cody did, but the beginning is great. Hehe. I also like the Ace Ventura movies. Just about anything else by him, eh. Never watched Cable Guy, hated Dumb and Dumber, only saw a few minutes of Man on the Moon, and I can’t even recall any other movies he’s done.

The Mouse That Roared
Airplane
The Producers

I am trying to think of something recent, but can not come up with one at the moment.

One Two Three (very hysterical movie starring Jimmy Cagney)

also (these have probably been noted; haven’t read whole thread) -
Marx Brothers movies
The Producers
Liar, Liar with Jim Carrey
What’s Up Doc
Airplane
Return of the Pink Panther (very funniest Pink Panther)

Pirates of the Caribbean always makes me laugh.

There’s so many … enjoy!

Wait a minute. Have I been spelling “reccomend” incorrectly all this time? I saw it spelled “recommend” on another thread.

Dude, y’all should correct me, heh.

This is what I get for sounding out words. Stupid English.

another vote for PeeWee’s Big Adventure (Tim Burton directed it!)

Now, Big-Top Pee Wee- that was a train wreck!

I’m a big advocate for any Mel Brooks film up to & including Spaceballs- since then, dreck!

AnimistDragon -

You have it right. They’re wrong. Or am I being whooshed?

I whoosh you not… although everyone’s entitled to their own opinion

I’m sorry, these are older than two years, but since everyone is offering classics:

You must see Amazon Women On The Moon. It’s a collection of skits based on the premise that the awful space flick you are watching on the late night movie keeps breaking in the projector. So they fill the time with sketches, each by a different director. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen, and it’s pretty hard to come by now. But I recommend it highly!

And Airplane!

What about Jerry Lewis? Either one loves him or hates him, but high marks go to The Nutty Professor and The Disorderly Orderly, if you like that sort of thing.

If you like dry wit and comedy and crime stories, can’t do better than “Comic Book Villains” which is a very nicely done roasting of comic book fandom done in the style of film noir.

Free Enterprise is a comedy that pokes friendly fun at media fandom generally, esp. Star Trek fandom. And I’ll add a recommendation for Galaxy Quest, which is a hoot.
