Rats! The the one-day I don’t check The Straight Dope I almost missed the TVland marathon of my favorite show. I wouldn’t have minded spending “till the end of time” with Ellen Foley. ---

One of the few TV shows I still find watchable. And it gave Lady Chance and I one of our pet catch phrase exchanges: _chaos occurs_ Harry: Mac? When exactly did I lose control? Mac (deadpan): Oh, early on tonight, sir. Useful in many situations, I think you’ll agree. Plus, lest we forget: “Your ventricle is showing.” ---

How 'bout the one where Harry has a Halloween party and Christine has on a Vampira-esque black costume. OMG 😃 Markie was a fox in that one. This is one of my all-time favorites series. Right in there with Cheers! Hard to get stuff done since discovering TV Land running them. ---

I discovered Googling today that Reinhold Weege is a real person! I always assumed it was a pseudonymn for someone, maybe Harry Anderson. Turns out he worked on **Barney Miller** before creating and executive producing (executively producing?) Night Court. Who could go through life with a name like Reinhold Weege? What were his parents thinking? ---

Just for balance, the episode where Harry’s guardian angel (in the guise of Mel Torme) shows him what would have happened if he hadn’t become a judge was probably the worst episode they ever did. ---

And I really liked the time Christines college roomamte showed up: a super hot brunette. The best part was the party they went to at the end of the show and not only was the old friend in a sexy dress, but Christines was a smokin’ in a rather revealing white dress as well. ---

I caught an episode last night where an armed robber took them all hostage during an anger management therapy meeting, and the robber was played by a young Don Cheadle, future Best Actor nominee. I also remember seeing the ever-hot, ageless Fran Drescher as a nymphomaniac who drove Dan crazy. I wonder how many now-familiar stars appeared in bit parts on Night Court. ---

Night Court is easily my all-time favorite live-action sitcom (qualifier needed to exclude Futurama). I so, so hope that Time Warner delivers more seasons on DVD soon. One of my favorite episodes was when some Japanese bigwig got arrested for solicitation, with Harry and Dan (and maybe Bull as well? Don’t recall) paying homage to the man’s sexual prowess. Then he died, and until things were sorted out with the Japanese embassy, Bull pushed the corpse around in a wheelchair. While Bull wasn’t looking, some kid pushed a button that made the wheelchair propel itself, it went into an open elevator, and the rest of the episode was a seach for the missing body. Harry: “Bull, how could you lose a dead Japanese industrialist?” Bull: “He outsmarted me, sir.” Harry: “Outsmarted you? Bull, a corpse is a corpse!” Dan: “Of course, of course.” Harry Anderson and John Larroquette were comedy geniuses, and it’s been too long since either of them were regularly seen on TV.
