I’m putting this in The BBQ Pit because I know the flames will abound. Look, NFL players, our illustrious recently [del]coronated[/del] inaugurated president is targeting an entire religion (make no mistake: he’ll expand his EO when he gets the chance). There are Muslims in the NFL. Of course there are Muslims not in the NFL, too. There also happens to be one Muslims NFL player scheduled to be in Super Bowl LI. There are also bucket loads of money to be made all around the world when the Super Bowl is aired. Let’s get people thinking even more seriously about the consequences of letting Trump continue like an off-the-rails locomotive. Refuse to play. That’ll be a Very Big Deal in Texas, where the “national religion” is really American Football. That’s really it, guys. Walk out when you are introduced with your team for the big event and say loudly and clearly: “We refuse to play this event until Trump withdraws his unethical, immoral, hypocritical, and un-American executive order banning Muslims from entering the United States of America. WE are now showing how great America is. WE are showing the world American values. Good day and God bless America.” Then sit on the bench until Trump caves. ---

Not only will that not happen, but the game is on Fox, and I believe the halftime will feature an interview with Trump by Bill Freaking O’reilly. ---

On the other hand, Lady Gaga is also doing the halftime thing, and there’s a pretty good chance she’ll criticize Trump, then all the right-wing skullplates can call her a play-singer. So there’s that possibility, anyway. ---

These guys are top-level athletes, playing the game of their lives (well, for the Falcons anyway) that they have busted their humps since high school to get to. And they’re supposed to sit it out because the wrong person got elected president? Not gonna happen, not should happen. They would not be showing how great America is by refusing to play. They would be showing how petty America is. I am not a Trump fan, nor am I a fan of the stuff he’s doing. But this action by the players would just be stupid. ---

Because if you haven’t already done something similar, asking NFL players to do it is a bit facetious. Now, I’m not interested in responses like “if I was an NFL Superbowl player I’d do it”, because you’re not and (correct me if I’m wrong) never will be an NFL Superbowl player. Let’s say you’re a machinist. Have you already walked into your CEO’s office and announced that you’ll never show up at the workplace again until Trump abdicates his office? I’m retired, and tend to identify myself as an amateur curler. I’m playing at an amateur curling event this upcoming weekend. I don’t like Donald Trump at all. I’m _ **not** _ going to start that event by sitting down in the middle of the curling rink and announcing that I will never curl again until Trump abdicates his office (thus effectively ending my amateur curling career), and that’s not even close to what you’re asking those NFL players to do. ---

I turned the sound off during halftime and listened to Richard Strauss’s _Eine Alpensinfonie_ while watching her struggle to dance with those wires connected to her.
