My daughter decided she just HAD to have this on tonight, so it’s playing now. It’s terrible of me, but watching those _Il Volo_ guys singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” I first wanted to ask why the middle guy reminded me so much of Chico Marx. Then I started wondering if they were going to break out little street organs and be joined by a little trio of monkeys. And that kid singing “Holly Jolly Christmas,” what’s his deal? Every break between phrases, he moves his face out from behind the microphone. Is it so we can see his smile, or because he doesn’t trust himself to be able to inhale without making a huge gasping noise? I think I’ll hit the shower and go into work early tonight. ---

I had to turn it off half way through Mariah Carey. It makes me wince to see her try to stuff herself into those dresses. Like trying to repackage Pillsbury crescent rolls back into the tube. ---

These kinds of shows sort of drive me nuts. I mean, I understand getting in the holiday spirit and all - and having a few people sing a Christmas song, dressed in some holiday garb, with probably some dancing elves with fake snow falling in the background - well, nice for grandma and the grandkids to watch I suppose. But these shows are usually so bland - you could have aired the same show from 3, 4, 5 years ago and probably nobody would have noticed. Maybe I have turned into a Grinch, but a lot of these holiday shows just come across as phony tripe…plus, nobody ever sings the classic Christmas songs as written; they all have to have their “spin” to it. The Country Western version, or the Hip Hop/Rap version, or the diva god-knows-what-the-hell-version that was. ---

The first time she was on, my immediate thought was, “Her boobs must be freezing!” The second dress was even worse, in terms of weather appropriateness. I’m sure that tiny fur shawl thing didn’t do much to help. ---
