I had a kind of funny experience the other day. This was a custodial dad of three kids, ages 11, 8, and 7. After exchanging a couple of emails and texts, I inquired about how he would go about dating someone new. Did he have a babysitter and is he willing to pay them to be able to date 1 or 2 times a week? No. Does he realize that the oldest isn’t old enough to even watch himself, much less his siblings, too? Yeah, he guesses he realizes that. So, what was he planning on doing to date? Bring his kids over here? Have me go there and hang out with them? His next response was to call me demanding and to spout his certain belief that if we were right for each other, things would magically work themselves out, and god what is WRONG with me for suggesting that as a single dad, he shouldn’t date!! :rolleyes: And I totally agree on the “no scrub” thing, but for a lot of men that would be seen as being a “gold digger”. Yeah, I’m a little frustrated with the online dating scene at the moment. ---

I joined okc and plenty of fish about a week and a half ago (I’m male, 43). Some random observations: - I think women get less messages than you think but more than men get. This is because of the general societal norm that men do the asking, so women tend to sit back more and wait to see what comes in. If you’re a man you have to be more pro-active. - You get more responses if you’re actually online because you show up higher in searches. Lot of people search for “Who’s Online Now!!” coz they know they might get an immediate yay or nay. So, for example, I’m logged on to okc and pof as I’m writing this. Just leaving it idling ie might as well stay logged in when you’re on the computer anyway. - I think everyone reading this thread who is on okcupid should post their profile here so we can all give admiration/constructive criticism as appropriate. After all, we’ve all posted our pictures all over the net in a desperate trawl for members of the opposite (or same) sex. How much lower can we go? - Even letters from people you don’t particularly fancy are nice, bit of an ego boost, as long as they’re pleasantly written and show respect. I’ve been sending short funnies about something I read in their profile on the basis that even if they don’t like me, at least I made them laugh. Chicks love jokes I reckon. ---
