This is the first time that a state constitutional amendment has been struck down, right? Or was California constitution amended? This is the first I remember hearing the EPC being used for gay marriage by a judge. ---

[This article](http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2014/01/15/oklahoma_gay_marriage_ban_federal_judge_strikes_it_down.html) on [Slate.com](http://Slate.com) sums up why this particular ruling is a big deal. Basically, for the past 15 years, the SCOTUS has reasoned indirectly that gay marriage should be legal, but have kept the ruling very narrow and obscured the big picture reasoning of just what rights gays deserve. What the Oklahoma judge did was basically take the Kennedy’s tone and apply that to his reasoning. He’s going to force the SCOTUS to determine just what rights gays have and not dodge the question anymore. Either its wrong to discriminate against gays and all state anti-gay laws are invalid, or, as the article puts it, Kennedy has to rule on something he doesn’t agree with ---

Not really too much of an issue in most of the greater OKC area. About the only neighborhoods with sidewalks are gated communities or really old ones. Some exceptions do exist, but generally, yards go all the way to the street, sometimes without even a curb. Yes, in city limits. eta: re: posts 29-31 ---

Alas, with the stay, I will have to wait to enjoy the sound of reactionary Oklahoman heads exploding.
