I’ll be painting our cabin and possibly under the galley sink - it depends on how much **FCD** gets done with plumbing. I’m hoping it’ll be a short-ish day, but we’ll see. Sorry about the pity party last night. **Mrs Magill** and I had a talk earlier, which probably got my gears turning. She had just finished reading [Sex Changes](https://beta.thestorygraph.com/book_reviews/764317a5-cfb4-4e35-93d3-dc39a5a48253), which just sounds like an object lesson on how to poorly handle something like this. Anyhow - off to the eye doctor for my one week post surgical check. I’m getting light artifacts occasionally. I need to find out whether they’ll go away. Good morning. It’s 45F, damp and cloudy. Our projected daytime high is only 48F and rain is expected, too. **Shoe,** I’m glad you and S.M. had a good talk, and the communication issues are sorted. **Lily,** it sounds like the workshop was good! Congrats! We never made it out on the bikes. I was at Costco by the time they opened the doors for Executive members, and was third in line for prescriptions at the pharmacy. I picked up the meds and then wandered around Costco looking for a few items. I was not able to obtain some of them, but picked up a few other items. After Costco, I headed home, tidied the kitchen, and did a few other minor chores. I also caught up with the trash TV. I don’t have anything planned for today, and that’s fine. I may wash some dog blankets, though. You all take care of yourselves. ---

Currently 61 Ferrets (16 Centipedes) out of an expected 72 (22) - the first 70+ of the year! Supposed to have 70+ for the next three days, before dropping into the 60s on Saturday. May have to get dressed and go for a walk this afternoon. My transition to RDOS was unplanned. The store closed, but I got a decent bonus, based on my 15 years working there. By the time that was about to run out I still hadn’t gotten a new job (only two – count them! – two interviews), and I had turned 65 in the meantime, so I said the heck with it and put in for SocSec. Now I spend most of my time reading, computerating or sleeping. ---

Good morning everyone! I did indeed do nothing yesterday and will be doing much of the same today. I need to plant some onions and then spread straw but most of the hard work is done. Everything I’ve planted looks happy so far, last nights rain probably helped a lot. Hubs was wounded during his battle with the forest last week ( I haven’t said I Told You To Leave It Alone, but I’ve thought it really loudly at times), he has poison ivy circling both wrists so I’ll be changing those dressings a couple of times along with washing the sheets. I know he’s not leaking on the sheets, but its better to be safe than sorry so the sheets are getting changed daily now. It looks like he’s got his gout under control which is a good thing. I was almost too bored with his diet to cook, at least I didn’t have to eat like him. He still has to be careful what he eats and can’t do anymore beer fueled weekend smoking (meats) sessions. George and Jolene have been loving the weather, there are so many birds to watch. I had to take the tube feeder down, the startlings were chasing all of the little birds away and today nobody has been eating the suet or thistle ☹ There is a thistle feeder outside one of Hub’s windows and the goldfinches are all over that, so I know they are still around. > [@Taters](#): > > We never made it out on the bikes. Back when I worked for the eye surgeons, that happened to a small percentage of the patients. If they didn’t resolve by themselves in a short time (a month?), they came back for a very simple lazer zapping appointment that fixed it right up. There were no drugs involved in that appointment, also no pain or discomfort. The most thing I heard the most after a Yag appointment was something like “I used to pay good money to see colors like that and now my insurance is covering it. Life is good!” Dang about your GD slapping you around again last night, but it does make sense. You are in uncharted waters and **Mrs Magill** is your lifesaver. But it does matter when I’m typing one handed for whatever cat-involved reason. Neither hand knows where the keys are if the other hand isn’t on the keyboard. My brain doesn’t either, if I grab a pen and re-letter the keys, chances are good that the J and the F will get mixed up again. Brains is weird. ---

Just got back from the eye doctor. I have 20/20 in my right eye, and everything looks good. I was in the Mez today. A lot of data entry, I wonder if the Iranians unplugged a cable somewhere. I stopped at Teeter on the way home and grabbed 3 gallons of water. I’m part of a Telegram community where I already feel like an outlier in demographics. This community has a mutual aid channel, and there’s a member there asking for help for a friend, who is about to become homeless, has mental illness that makes them unemployable, an abusive family that has disowned them anyway, and a sole source of income (DoorDash) that is extremely unstable (car issues). The friend is apparently feeling suicidal over the situation, and I can see why. I don’t know the community member or their friend. I’m not likely to contribute money, and I don’t have any knowledge of social programs in their area (although i know someone I could ask), and this has struck an emotional chord for me (guilt and other things, mainly) that’s somewhat unusual for me, and I’m not sure why. It could be the community membership. It could be the consciousness that I’m likely one of the most financially fortunate people in that Telegram group. It could be that it reminds me of how fragile security in general is for most people, and that society has generally not cared about the options for those without it. I know that I can’t and shouldn’t feel guilty for being able to save everyone, but it still makes me think… ---

So, yesterday I’m just idly looking through the current topics on the dope when I spotted something about doing taxes. Oh, shit! It’s April 13th! I tracked down the wife and said “do you know it’s April 13th?” She says “And. . .?” TAXES, sez I. Have you done them? “Oh, shit”, she says, which was my take on things as well. So we will either have to e-file or take them to the post office so we’re not past due. Saved by the Dope! Luckily, our taxes are not complicated and we can use the form for seniors. ---

Taxes were “fun” this year. Since **Fang** wasn’t the Army’s problem until July, we listed him as a dependent. However, the IRS had issued him a ID PIN, so I couldn’t file until he found out what this PIN was, which meant I had to wait for him to do his taxes before I could file mine. That was two weeks ago. I usually file in February. ---

I remembered to do the thing! Not taxes- normal employees rarely have to bother here, so I’ve never had to do it even when I had a job, but the Tuesday thing. I just had stuff finished and the fire alarm went off… luckily I had been warned they were expecting a drill, and it was nice and sunny, despite being in the frozen northern wastelands (still snow visible on the hills!) over an hour’s north of me. The rain started on the drive back, which at least made me glad I’d not put the washing out in the morning as I was tempted to do, cos the forecast had said no rain until maybe 7pm. I had opted for the scenic route back and did stop off at a garden centre I’ve not visited before, but my initial plan for an ice cream at the seaside wasn’t too tempting when I got there in the rain. I had ice cream at home anyway. Back to normal irkplace tomorrow, but I’ll have to head back over at some point to reap the fruits of today’s labour. Hopefully. ---

When I knelt in a batch of recently mown poison ivy a couple of years ago, that made it bearable. ---

I’m a self-taught touch typist. When I was in high school, you were either in the college prep track, the business track, or the do-as-little-as-required-to-graduate track. Since I was headed to college, I didn’t have room in my schedule for business classes (typing) so for a lot of years, it was hunt-and-peck. I prefer to choose what causes I support, thanks. Same with panhandlers - maybe they’re truly in need and not just begging instead of working. But I almost never have cash, so it’s less of an issue. Yep, I’m home. And pooped. I wasn’t even able to finish cutting in the edges, let alone do any real painting. But I gathered all the household trash and we did do a trash/recycling run, and had lunch at Cracker Barrel, and I don’t know what else. Tomorrow I’ll finish the cutting-in, then break out the roller and get the walls done. I already told **FCD** I’m staying home on Thurs to deal with chores here. That little bit of painting shouldn’t have kicked my butt as badly as it did. Then again, I’m not 40 any longer. Or 50, or… well, yanno. Who knew 72 would be so hard?? I’ll chill for a while in the hopes of recovering. ---

The paschal weekend is done! Whew. Thank you, swamp bear. The usual marathon/frenzy. This time I even threw in painting a bit of a wall into the frenzy. Nice time with cousins on Sunday. Mostly napping yesterday and today. Break fast with chicken in the wee hours of Sunday, then kielbasa with family on Sunday afternoon. Monday was ham and cheese omelet. Today was ice cream for breakfast and leftover kielbasa for lunch. The chocolate hoard has opened! I caught up on the end of last week and beginning of this week in the mmp. I believe it is more time for chocolate. Back to the office tomorrow.
