My mom called a little bit ago - she’s doing really well. She may even get out next week, maybe. She did say she won’t leave till she’s sure she can get around without needing helpers. She also just learned that one can check oneself out AMA, and it surprised her. Then again, I think she’s of a generation that wouldn’t dare question a doctor. She also reminded me that today is 23 years since my dad died. Hard to believe it’s been that long. I am pleased that my mom didn’t turn into a woe-is-me-poor-widow. She’s been active, she travels, she spends time with friends and family, and, frankly, I think in some ways she’s enjoyed being independent for the first time in her life. She went from home to married to parent in a very short time, never living on her own. Anyway, we had a nice chat. And I decided we’ll have grilled cheese for supper with some sort of fruit or veggie matter. Onward! ---

My late aged MIL got in high dudgeon one time that she was being held at the hospital against her will, so checked herself out. Would not listen to the staff. She needed a couple weeks’ rehab and wanted to start sooner rather than later. But by checking out a day early versus Medicare standards, they denied IIRC paying for her rehab. Or was it the hospital stay? Details fuzzy. I do know it was a low 5-figures mistake. Which she did not repeat. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?” “What do you think they were all trying to tell you?” “I don’t know, I was too angry to listen to _those_ people.” Of course her daughter and I found out about this the day after it happened. ---

Well, we got the shopping done pretty quickly and actually caught the elevator right when we got back. Maintenance guy had them air ship the needed part, so hopefully we’ll be back up and running in a few days. ---

Regular Tuesday. Teaching at uni #2, then rehearsal for chorus #2. Just found out that I’ll be singing some rehearsal covers (singing some solos as lead ins to help the chorus understand the broader context), both baritone and tenor. It’s some hard stuff, so I have some work to do. Won’t be singing them until next week, fortunately. An odd moment a few minutes ago when a random guy knocked on my door and asked me how to “draw” an a-diminished chord. Odd mostly because I can’t imagine just wandering into, say, the math department, finding an unoccupied professor, and asking them to calculate a tip or something. ---

More seriously, Kondo is a wacky idealist. But she shows a useful direction for most people to try to move towards even if her endpoint is wacky extreme. Thanks @Filbert for filling me/us in. This isn’t the standard flaking flake who flakes. Bravo for having the wisdom to know the difference and the patience to do the right thing. Here’s hoping the problem is solved soon. ---

I don’t remember if I mentioned, but we turned on the river yesterday. It works great! The jets set into millstones shoot water 15-20 feet high, the water wheel works beautifully. The only thing I wish was different is the constant pump coming out of a beautiful round stone just sort of washes out, I’d like a bigger burble. But that would require a bigger pump and we’ve already crashed the budget for this project for this year. The rib is doing better, I did go to a doc today, no cracks, but they did say bruised muscles and interstitial cartilage. Should be sore for a week. Really doesn’t help when the dog jumps on me. Speaking of dog, Poopy J. McFartsalot, aka Peach, is being extra stinky this evening. ---

And a good almost-evening all. Have done nothing of consequence outside of watching Champions League soccer and solving some puzzles, was going to be an assistant ref on a soccer game but it was rained out. Might go to the gym here in a bit and get some night-time exercise in, we’ll see. Late night final here. Back from the gym, where I exercised 1,250 calories away according to the machines, and am now working to put many of them back before bedtime. Still learning things about my new car, for instance it will automatically deploy the bright lights if there is no traffic around and dim them if there is an approaching car. I’m beginning to wonder if this thing is smarter than I am… **red** , I think (IIRC) that you’re in the Houston area now, if so, there are Waffle Houses available for your entertainment purposes. And 9:30pm, so will watch a couple You Tubes and then off to Slumberland. Catch up with everyone on Hump Day. ---

My apologies for that perfect bummer of a story about my student. There is a lovely and amazing postscript, though. While my student, D., was breathing his last, a boy about his age was brought in because his heart was giving out. He and D. turned out to be a match. What are the odds? So the hospital was able to do a direct donor-to-recipient transplant. Normally TPTB keep donors and recipients from meeting each other, but both sets of parents were in the surgical waiting room and nobody else was, so of course, they figured it out and were able to embrace and to share details about their boys. Today I had an appointment with a pain specialist at the ortho clinic, as my back has been pretty painful of late. I’m supposed to get another MRI and a steroid shot. He said there are multiple issues, one of which is arthritis. I’ve been a part of this very large club for a long time. And I still haven’t received my free tote bag, dammit. I went to the women’s room before I left, and suddenly, a nose appeared under the stall wall! Yes, a nose! A big nose! It was black with golden fur. A voice said, “Sorry!” then, “Luna! She’s fine! She won’t hurt me!” Luna, who wears a “Service Animal” tag, apparently takes her job very seriously. It was supposed to be an animal-free day, but the cat’s person isn’t getting home until this evening, and the thought of Le Chat going hungry for several hours brought out the Italian in me, so I took care of him gratis. Then Sir Max-a-Lot needed walking, which his person can’t do just now, so I did that, too, but for pay. . Remember the woman with the bite-y dog who told me she still has him despite telling the management that she’d given him to a farmer? Well, Max’s person said the woman told her the farmer story, only she said the farmer was boarding the dog for $30 a day, and, sobbing wildly, said the farmer shot the dog for attacking sheep. some people live in reality, and some own a timeshare they never use. > [@LSLGuy](#): > > More seriously, Kondo is a wacky idealist. Yay, **shoe**! Hi to everyone else! I read but can’t seem to keep up anymore. Oh yeah, except now that I think about it **doggio** did you get a hat like _my kind of hats_? It’s been kind of grumpy around here. My sleep has gotten worse even with the new sleeping pill. I sent a message to the doctor and they said to quit taking it and to let them know when I was feeling betterish. Because, as it turns out, I didn’t read the fine print that the pill could cause depression. Um, yeah, don’t need anymore of that nonsense. In the meantime now waking up even earlier. Also, all this lack of sleep seems to be affecting my memory and concentration. I’m having a very hard time keeping up with stuff at work. I even managed to forget that I had two IEPs that had to be submitted for review by tomorrow. I guess that makes it good news that I was already available and working on one of them by 3 this morning. And then about 4 this morning I was eating something crunchy and cracked a large piece of a filling off of one of my teeth. So, yeah, grouchy, grumpy. Harumph. ---

She seems to live in an alternate reality, or possibly several of them in which she does, or doesn’t have a dog! Yesterday was a really pointless day as I spent most of my time in meetings taking minutes. Finally managed to get home and was completely worn out so I did very little apart from making sure the cats were fed and the litter trays were clean. Today I have had a quick messaging session with my manager about Drama Queen Minion and should hear more about that later. I’ve sorted out some issues for upcoming exams/class tests, and I’m sitting through our college professional services forum in the vain hope there might be something useful and interesting in there. It’s pub night tonight so I’ve got that to look forward to, but before that, I need a lot more tea. ---
