\*"Kiss a little longer,

(something) fresh breath a little longer,
Longer with Big Red!

(something something something) it,

So (something) last a little longer,
(something something) a little longer,
Fresh breath lasts a little longeeeeeeeeeer,

From the commercial where the guy’s running out of the house to catch his carpool, but stops to smooch his wife and they end up smooching so long the carpool leaves without him. I think.

Also from the same era, the Doublemint Gum commercial with all the twins:
_“So double it, double it,
go on and double it,
Doublemint, Doublemint, Gum!
(Announcer: There’s no single gum like it!”_

You are correct, and you can both read the lyrics and hear the music [by clicking here](http://easylistening.freeyellow.com/easy93/seetheusainyourchevrolet.htm).

I grew up in suburban Cleveland, and thus will always remember the Aluminum Siding Corporation’s phone number. Even twenty years after exchanges were removed from the phone books, the jingle still reminded you to call “GArfield 1-2323!”

**Suse** reminded me of the “Me and my RC” jingles that matched the standard tune with various sets of country music lyrics. One commercial began:

_The final race, this dude showed up
With twenty coats of paint
I took one look at Wanda
She looked about to faint!_

and ended

_It’s knowin’ when to take the turn
And not how fast you go_

followed by the standard “Me and my RC” refrain. Another started with

_At a music school in Boston
They call it a violin_

before a line about how “it’s a fiddle in Nashville”. I believe this version was the one that went on to say:

_When you work for Old Man River
He’s a boss you understand
No politics or office tricks
He wants a steady hand_

In the Midwest, an
[Old Home Bread](http://www.techren.net/mccall/works/wolfcreekpass/oldhomecafe.shtml) campaign became so popular that singer Bill Fries became known by the name assigned to the trucker whose character he assumed for the campaign. As C.W. McCall, he hit the charts with _Convoy_.

_What do you call a kid who can hit like that?
You call that kid a crackerjack!_

To those who have recalled the Hamm’s commercials, Thanks. It’s been quite some time since I have sung “Hamm’s, the beer refreshing.”

At some point far in the past, Hamm’s was my dad’s favorite beer. I loved the commercials on TV, partly because I could recognize the product as one my dad liked and partly because of the neat animated bear.

**Sternvogel** , thanks for clearing this up. One of probably many Mondegreens from hearing commercial jingles.

I must admit that the actual line doesn’t make a great deal of sense – to me. Probably why I just didn’t hear it the way it was meant.

I taped off a bunch of old albums from the library when I was about 15 old radio commerials. I’ve since lost the tape ( insert boo-boo lip smilie) but part of this jingle ( from the Jimmy Durante Show is forever in my brain.)

\*"Kiss a little longer,
**Stay close** a little longer,
**romance** a little longer,
Longer with Big Red!

**That Big Red freshness lasts right through** it,
**Your** fresh breath goes on and on,
While you chew it!

So (something) last a little longer,
(something something) a little longer,
Fresh breath lasts a little longeeeeeeeeeer,

There were actually a few versions, each more irritating than the last. This is one of the ones I remember. I didn’t do the last verse because three different ones warred in my head and made me hear strange voices and see AMAZING colors…

We’ve had some jingles for American cigarettes and beer, but do any older Canadians remember these:

_Coolest, cleanest, most refreshing…_ (Repeat constantly; it was for Craven Menthol cigarettes.)

_Wild mild! Belvedere is wild mild!_ (Belvedere cigarettes.)

_For your real satisfaction, Molson Export Ale keeps on tasting great._

Okay, a few more:

_Charlie says, “Love my Good n’ Plenty!”
Charlie says, “Really rings a bell!”
Charlie says, “Love my Good n’ Plenty,
Don’t know any other candy that I love so well!”_

And I’m amazed I can still remember this one:

\*If you’ve got trouble, wait don’t run
This kind of trouble is lots of fun.
Pop-O-Matic pops the dice
Pop the six and you move twice
Race your men around the track
And try to send the others back.
That’s Pop-O-Matic Trouble!

The game is fun for Dad and Mother
And Sis can trouble her mean old brother!
Pop-O-Matic Trouble!\*

It’s slinky! It’s slinky!
Oh what a wonderful toy!
It’s fun for a girl and a boy!
It’s fun for a girl and a boy!

There’s a verse for slinky too but I can’t remember it.

Virginia Slims:

You’ve come a long way baby,
to get where you’ve got to today!
You’ve got your own cigarette now baby,
You’ve come a long, long, way!

Go Greyhound, and leave the driving to us.

Traaaaavel Amtrak
See the country
Its easy come and easy go!

I also recall a commercial for Moddess (which I think was a feminine hygiene spray). The tune didn’t have any words that I can recall, just this tune playing while a woman in a long flowing white robe strolled along the beach and had this look that was supposed to say “Boy, my vagina smells great.”

And a slight hijack re: Darryl Dawkins. He dunked once and hit an opposing player in the head. After the game he was asked if that dunk had a name. His response: “Damn straight. I call it the ‘Move Your Damn Head’ dunk.”
