I suspect if his mom and his brother both dropped dead today, he’d then be plagued by guilt over it. I feel so helpless in this. At least he’s not down in the boat in this heat, and he won’t be till some hardware is delivered. By then maybe it’ll cool a wee bit. OK off to cut up some cauliflower. ---

Likewise in hot places (the whole damned USA these days) after power failures being able to distribute bags of ice to waiting people does a lot for morale and does something to offset the lack of HVAC in buildings not designed with natural ventilation. Most people will misuse the pittance of ice they get, but if they’re getting ice they’re not feelin abandoned and are less interested in rioting to demonstrate their feeling of abandonment. During my time in IT for civil emergency management I learned about a lot of weird unexpected shit. The ordinary infirmities of elderhood just arrive much sooner and at an ever-increasing rate. It would have been very cruel to have tried to move my late wife any time after what turned out to be roughly her last two years. She was a relatively typical hale and mostly hearty 58yo when we got to FL in 2014 and was the equivalent of a 90yo when she died in 2021 at the age of 65. So 30+ years’ aging in 7 years on the calendar. And ~15 of those in the last ~2. So be darn sure you’re out ahead of the curve on planning for 80yo infirmity in your family. It’s coming faster than you both might presently think. Certainly far far faster than you both deserve. Monster 🫂 {{hugs}} 🫂 to you both. **Coppertone** : Good job on the interview. In each case I eventually realized the futility of fixing the unfixable. Often years after, sometimes a bit before things ended naturally. Peace be unto him for he surely needs it. ---

They set one up at the emergency shelter when Mayer flooded and I saw a constant line of people waiting to wash their clothes. Howdy Y’all! Outside of bravin’ the great unwashed to go get my ‘scripts, been a very RDOS day. We did get in some quality cee-mint pond time followed by nappage. Sup got fixed and et and the kitchen cleanded. Oh and for productivity, the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up from the road to where it lives durin’ the week. Hopin’ for some rain soon as it looks rainyish out. Netflix, chill, and popcorn time soon. **MOOOOOOM** an ice maker that makes the “good ice” is indeed an essential. I’ve thought about a lawn service since I am the one who mows. OYKW will not do yahd irk at all. Maybe it has sump’n to do about bein’ brought up on a farm. Last year I said I’d get a service this year. This year I’m sayin’ I’ll get a service next year. Next year I will either have a service or be sayin’ I’ll get one the next year. **Lucky** I don’t have stairs but if’n I did I’d consider a stair lift. I think they look cool. This means that if I did have stairs I’d want one to be cool. I think I have different cool standards than the average folk. **Wheelie** I hope the passenger is OK, as well. Hope irk goes well. It’s always hard when a big time adjustment is a part of it all. BTDT. **Pen** tell the team to try harder. Yep, the R1 is available for short trips without cargo. It would be torture if I had to ride it to Burien and back. The Seca II, I’ve ridden from L.A. to north of San Francisco, to Lake Havasu, and to Las Vegas, right off the top of my head. It’s not as quick or as fast as the R1, but it’s a Standard and thus more comfortable. I’ll be glad when it’s restored and rebuilt. ---

The emotional process of a breakup is a bit like the emotional process of a death: fear, anger, denial, bargaining, acceptance. _Then_ comes indifference. Also it’s a quite different experience from the POV of the break_er_ vs the break_ee_. As a recent break_er_ myself, all the following happened and were processed by me emotionally _before_ I told her I was done: fear, anger, denial, bargaining, acceptance. Once I was at acceptance I could act. And once I’d acted I could promptly and with rather little emotional strain move to indifference. Where I remain. HL was, frankly, rather blindsided when I left. I don’t know where she is emotionally now, but my expectation is she’s trying for acceptance and indifference while still holding the lid down on a pot of anger. Maybe big, maybe small. She was always very tightly controlled so her inner state is rather inscrutable under the best of circumstances. Dear sweet **Shoe** is the break_ee_ here, so is playing a bit of emotional catch-up. I was just going by my experience and you gotta remember that I didn’t really have any emotional commitment to any of my bed warmers. I had a bunch of FWB and we were all good with that. I would get grumpy if one of them went off and got married with telling me, but that was just because I wanted to know to take him off my booty call list.
