I dunno, if something famous was removed from me, I’d like to see it… And OMG - I got a snail mail scam letter today!!! Well, **FCD** did, but still. I must share a few tidbits. First off, there was no return address on the envelope and the “letterhead” within just said Canada Trust - nothing else. It was dated Nov 12 - is mail from Canada that slow?? But here’s the fun part. Apparently they had a customer, Ted West, _“who was a citizen of your country and resided in Toronto until his passing in 2014.”_ Ol’ Ted died without a will or beneficiaries, so this guy wants to present **FCD** as next of kin to claim the dormant account _"with a balance of $9,200,000 (Nine Million Two Hundred Thousand US Dollars)._ Wow! Lucky us!!! Then he included an email at \< his name\>@taborconsult.com - surely this is legit - he has an email that isn’t gmail or yahoo!! I wanted to create a fake email and jerk this guy around but **FCD** won’t let me - party pooper. Altho I did notify the bank, including the scammer’s email. I don’t know if that’ll do any good, but it was minimal effort and maybe they can smack this guy around a bit. _Just got a FB message back from the bank, making sure we don’t have an account that may have been compromised. I’m impressed with the speed of the response!_ Just back from Texas Roadhouse… again… SIL got a gift card so dinner for 6 of us cost him under $30 plus tip (that’s another $3, right?? 🤣 ) It was kids’ night and among other things, Andy Armadillo was wandering around the restaurant. When I see people in those kinds of costumes, I wonder how nasty stinky they are inside, tho one would hope they’re kept clean and stink-free. Anyway, Roxy and Tobias got a kick out of that and she had a pic taken with him. If you’ve ever been to this restaurant chain, you know that every so often, they crank up the music and some of the servers do a little dance. Well, tonight Roxy joined them. No, she’s not shy at all, why do you ask?? Tobias was content to watch. So we’re back home and I’s stuffded again. I’m thinking I’ll be sleeping with Mel tonight - I got barely 5 hours of sleep each of the last 2 nights and I’m tired. Till then, chillage in the recline. ---

And a good early evening to all. Swimming has been accomplished (3100 yards) and Whataburger has provided the evening repast, so all is well. Thinking about going to the library for about an hour, I have a NY Times crossword that fills two complete pages of the paper and another pages with 800+ clues to wade through, so need some elbow room to work. The gym is right across from the library so might knock off a few more calories too. **talkie** , hope the surgery goes well; only pics I have from medical stuff is from my colonoscopy 20 years ago and I don’t think anyone really wants or needs to see that. **Bat Boy** , very glad to hear the new job is to your liking; hope 2025 stays good for you. **VanGo** , sometimes closing something out is more work that starting up. Take care. **swampy** , the Doc was supposed to arrange the Cologuard back in May but apparently forgot and I never got around to reminding him, so bad on both of us. **Coppertone** , take care of yourself. **FCM** , surprised the scammers are using mail, I thought e-mail or phone was their primary means. You ought to send it to the scammers thread here at the SDMB, bet someone would like to play with them… And food is in the appropriate place and slowly being assimilated, so onward into the evening. Oh, long day here. An enjoyable time in Cleveland especially since we stopped for breakfast at a restaurant in the Arcade after MusicMan’s stuff at the VA. Then some other heavy stuff going down here from when I talked to my therapist. We’re ok, I just have a lot of follow-through to do. More tomorrow after I’ve actually gotten some rest. Good evening, everyone. It’s 60 degrees Fahrenheit here in beautiful (snicker) Collin County, Texas. I’m somewhere on US Highway 380, en route with the sprog to visit my father for New Year’s. (He’s driving.) We’ve had a lovely trip so far, listening to _American Prometheus_ and making decent time. We spent last night in Cookeville, Tennessee before setting out this morning for Day Two. We should arrive at the hotel in about 20 minutes, at which time we will meet my father for dinner. I’m so excited, can you tell? ---

So it was a lot of volume, and there wasn’t a lot of people, because the District Manager doesn’t allow people to work a 6th punch. the same DM who was screaming because the package cars weren’t loaded when the drivers showed up, and a lot of people did their 3.5 hours and left. The distraction will be good, if I don’t get too crabby. (Edible already packed, so I don’t wind up on the evening news.) Ain’t gonna be my first rodeo as far as “Amateur Night” is concerned. That includes my days (and nights) in DFW and Austin (_wheeeee!_ college freshmen after their first frat party!) plus the locals here in western Mitten seem to have their own ideas about laws and the po-po, as the Hornito story above should attest. Besides, my “commute” is roughly 3-5 minutes, on well-lit roads, and I do know what to watch for. But I appreciate the concern, and guarantee will be saying, “Okay, drive safe!” to my customers A LOT tomorrow, too. * * * ETA my paycheck just cleared and can I just reiterate how shitty my math skillz are(n’t existent)? We lost a day $ due to the holiday, and I lost a day the other week due to 🤢 so I was _reeeeeeally_ worried about making rent. Just checked both my bank account & my renter portal thingie. While peeking between my fingers. 🫣 My water bill is suspiciously missing off my rental bill, again - last time they pulled this, I got hit with about six months worth at once, cuz why would they get their shit together? - but other than that little ~~kicking the can down the road~~ mystery, I won’t be living in a carboard box next month. TL:DR **shoe** can’t count but is not quite homeless, yet. ---

Last week of the Old Year! I’ve done all the laundry, including towels, blankets, coats and hoodies, and the bath mat. Tuesday, I will change the sheets, take out the trash and recyclables, and clean the air filters. Then I will take a bath, and work in a clay masque and pumicing my feet, then wash my hair and shave everything that gets shaved. But we’re not going out; we never do. (Well, once, we got a hotel room and went to the NYE party in their ballroom. But we never drive after dark on 12/31, if we can help it.) We will stay in and watch something; Mr. Rilch has been hinting about Sound of Music. We can switch between that and Times Square. We’ll have mojitos and pizza! Also, I have to give myself a pat on the back. I’ve been diligent this year, as far as culling and organizing, and it was not necessary to do an overhaul on my office or the bedroom, unlike last year. Got some cool stuff for Christmas, and everyone seemed to appreciate what I gave them. Although that package never showed up. I did get my money back, aaaaand, I just got notice that the package is being returned to sender. Fuckers. The sellers, I mean, not UPS. They had my street address as an alternate. They also claimed to have given the street address to UPS, while UPS claims they were never contacted, and I’m inclined to believe them over the seller. Should I one-star them? I was thinking of just leaving no review, especially since it was pretty aggravating to see the review prompts when the product was days late. ---

Cats are weird people. Just a little while ago, I was scooping the litterbox and they _both_ hurried in to supervise me, looking a bit concerned. Allie didn’t even say anything rude to Buddy until I was done with that task and he’d gotten within a few inches of her, which she doesn’t usually tolerate well at all. I have no clue why my performing an ordinary household task seemed to worry them. ---

Oh, and @The_Stainless_Steel_Rat, you asked a couple of MMPs ago about a betting pool on the next time @Bob_Blaylock gets himself into a jam that required towing. Does getting stuck enough in snow that another 4x4 needed to pull him out count? This happened Saturday. Fortunately, we knew of some other off-roading people not terribly far away who proved quite willing to help us out (we took them out for pizza as a thanks, of course). ---

My dad had three heart attacks over the years and it was a long, drawn out tragedy.
