Howdy Y’all! I prepped stuff for tomorrow and cooked the greens. We accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. Majik intartoobz pizza and sallit got et. The fireworks have started. Still quiet in N. Ali-bama; either folks don’t feel like setting off fireworks when it is under 50F or they are waiting until the time is closer (or maybe Ali-bama’s loss in college tackleball today dispirited them), Either way I suspect I’ll be asleep by that time. Apparently planning to go to the garage opener company scared my device into obedience as it’s opening and closing the door just fine now. Split the afternoon into gym time and library time (to work on he Mega NY Times crossword; about 80% done) and came home to my usual Tuesday Mac-n-Cheese dinner. May watch some more tackleball tonight. I was supposed to go to church service from 10 to 12 then a meal there. Like last year. But a church member who lives in my building texted and said shes not going. I messaged another member but told her Im still not 100% ok. She said I should stay home. I loved it last year. I almost forgot what its like to feel healthy ( its been 10 days) ! ---

Irked a half day, went to the 'Boro to pick up a few things, came home and took Nelson for a (very) brief romp in the dog park (it was near 60 ferret height, but the biting wind made for small dog warnings, so we didn’t stay long). Came home, did some cutting on my current studio project and am relaxing for the next six days. I haven’t been much on NYE for quite a while. It was fun after I got out of a band and was hanging out with the bar crowd, but, shoot, the last couple of years, my work hours mean that I’m in bed by ten at the latest on my days off. So they came and patched the ceiling hole and repainted. Spot gave me an earful after that. Now we’re watching hockey, having a Manhattan, and some Hot Nashville-ish chicken. Southern Merrylande got Nature’s Fireworks also - many big booms! I suppose there were flashes also, but my recliner doesn’t face out the window so I don’t know for certain. 😉 We watched 2 more episodes of _The Tudors_. Catherine Howard is gonna get it, probably in the next episode. She’s a naughty, naughty queen! Not that Henry VIII was any pillar of niceness. The turnip greens are washed and rolled in a towel in the fridge and the black eyed peas are soaking. I’ll toodle off to bed shortly and likely wake up when more fireworks go off at midnight. I took Nelson out a little early so’s he wouldn’t be upset by them. ---

I just put the black-eyed peas to soak. I’ll trim and cut the collard greens mañana. We went down to CJ’s Beach House of very early dinner. They don’t really have any low-carb/keto options (except for Caesar salad or wedge salad, or expensive steak), so I said to Hell with it and had a Reuben and half of the fries that came with it. And two negronis. Bad news: I cheated on my diet. But I weighed myself today, and I was down to 200 pounds. Good news: Wifey paid. ---

Whelp, **S.M.** took me up on the offer. No surprise, and I was thoroughly prepared. Never over an hour wait time, but we did more sales than a super busy Saturday (over $9,100 sold, which roughly works out to around 50 pizzas an hour, every hour.) Didn’t even bust into my coffee (didn’t have _time_) and forgot all about my coffee beans. Ah, well. We got a brief burst of lake-effect snow mid evening, plus **S.M.** brought a couple of glitter-bomb type “firecrackers” for us closers to set off right at midnight in the parking lot. So that was festive. We did get stuck with a lot of “oops/remake” pizzas, plus the expected drunks who forgot/passed out and never picked their order up … so it was _awesome_ when a cop pulled up to the drive-thru right as we were closing up. Me: “Uh, **S.M.** the cops are here.” S.M. _distracted by manager stuff_ “Oh, they’re all gonna be out tonight, you know that.” Me: “No, I mean, they’re HERE.” S.M. _suddenly not distracted_ He asked if we had any unsold pizzas, and **S.M.** was like, “Oh! You bet your ass we do!” and handed him probably three or four of 'em. Budtender gave me the receipt and said I could get a 15% off discount at such-and-such pizza joint, if I showed them my receipt. I looked at her. Looked down at my shirt. Looked back at her. I believe it’s pronounced, “Fleas on my dog!” * * * Pot pie is being absorbed (and added back to the grocery list) plus a multivitamin, a single raspberry puff thingie, and the very last of my TX Roadhouse … tragically, minus any rolls, because _someone_ had already stuffed all of them into her greedy little mouth. Sleepy time commenceth. Monkey has loaf-ified at my ankles & is purring very quietly. ---

Back inside to apologize. I typed hurriedly and wrote “state” where “region” would’ve been more appropriate. I had no intention of excluding Dopers in other northern countries. The aurora has spread across the whole sky now, so it’s not nearly as bright, just a pale light one could mistake for a haze if it didn’t swirl and change. The effect is ghostly. Shreds and streams of what could be ectoplasm silently drawn across the sky. Shiver! A good way to see in the New Year !
