Afternoon all. Back from the great shoe hunt, visited about 4 places until I hit the Sketchers Outlet store and bought a couple of pairs. Also lunched at Subway as I had a coupon and hadn’t been there for awhile. It was…uninspiring and don’t plan on a return visit anytime soon. Don’t know if the gym is in my future or not, feeling a bit out of it, not sick, just…disoriented without being dizzy or faint. And my left knee is contributing to the weird, it works fine for a hour and then suddenly starts being painful, but 5 minutes later it’s fine for another hour or so. Otis got fussed over by the marina office staff and he did his first exploration of the boat. We need to get him a life vest - I don’t trust him not to try to go overboard, tho it is a ways down to the water and he doesn’t like big descents. Time for chillage till I need to initiate supper forage. ---

Looks like I have my first no-show of the semester. Still get paid for the hour, but it’s annoying to just sit here. Couple more hours of teaching, then on to rehearsal for chorus #1. Sleep, rinse, repeat. **Misnomer** , sorry the audition experience was poopy. Most directors are not like that. Also, I think you should take lessons, but I may be biased… ---

Thankgiving dinner was yesterday at our house. Daughter and her family, (hubby & the two adult grandsons) along with older son & his family (wife and grandson $ granddaughter). Turkey, dressing, ham, meatballs, potatoes, salads, veggies, banana cream & pumpkin pies. Now, just chillin’ & watching CFL football, Ottawa @ Montreal. (And lots of leftovers, yum!) ---

I called my mortgage servicer to get my payoff amount quote. My balance is under $900, so I have to pay them $1,532.75. They charged me a $600 recording fee, plus $30 to get the quote. I went to pay off my loan, but you can’t do it online. Since today is a holiday, I’ll have to call my bank in the morning. In other news, my watch arrived. It has a Seiko NH34 automatic movement and a dial that says Seiko on it, but it came from China. So technically it’s a Chinese watch; albeit with a Japanese movement. Looks pretty good. I’ll wear it on our vacation. I sent that kimono jacket back to Amazon today. [ETA: I just got an email that my money has been refunded. ETA2: The larger replacement unit will arrive Wednesday.] Since I was ‘right there’, I went to a supermarket. We’re having Shake ‘N Bake pork chops for dinner with Yukon gold mashed potatoes (w//butter, heavy cream, and probably garlic – I’ll have to ask SWMBO about the garlic) and packet country gravy. ---

I expect you know this, but food service work shifts being just a couple hours per day times a couple days a week is now totally normal. Many (most?) workers in that biz get that treatment. And yes it sucks to high heaven. But if you’re feeling especially picked on, you’ve got millions of people to share that feeling with. It still sucks. ---

Okay, I just have to share this. I think I mentioned that we will be hosting a Halloween party, the Saturday _before_ Halloween. Mr. Rilch has loaded up on decorations, and one of them was a fake spider. About the size of a car battery, brown and hairy. So Izzy had a friend over yesterday afternoon, and they were helping Mr. Rilch and me with some of the setup, like raking the yard and testing fairy lights. During this, it was established that Izzy does not have an actual phobia of spiders; she just doesn’t like them. I went in earlier than the others, to make dinner, and when they all came in, Izzy wanted to take a shower before eating\*. While she was upstairs, Mr. Rilch got the idea to put Aragog just outside her door. Sarah, the friend, thought that would be funny, and I didn’t object. Mr. Rilch and Sarah were in the dining room when Izzy came down, and I was in the kitchen, so I was the only one who saw her reaction. And honestly, it _was_ funny, and cute, that **she didn’t even see the spider at first.** She pushed the door further open and walked past it. Then, something must have registered, because she turned around and saw it. But, she didn’t shriek, or leap in the air or anything that we’d anticipated. She stood with her hand over her mouth, just staring, and I went forward and said “It’s okay,” and like that. And took her hand, which she barely let me do. So, yeah, that kind of fell flat. See, just for a second, she thought there might really be spiders that big in these parts. And in fact, there are. Not super common, thank heavens, but I’ve seen them. Mr. Rilch apologized sincerely; I hope there’s no lasting harm done. Anyway, someone her age could be in the Peace Corps, in places a lot riskier than here! \*She is the cleanest person I have ever seen. She’s more thorough (and frequent) in her cleaning of her bathroom than I am with mine. (Then again, I have a full bath with a shower _and_ a half-bath, while she’s only responsible for the downstairs half-bath.) ---

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and a chance of fog. My day ended as expected - I was just about to log off to go to the dentist when I got a deluge of emails with a problem that needed attention. Went to the dentist, got my teeth polished properly and got the usual lecture about drinking too much tea (how can a Brit drink too much tea???) and came home again. I logged back into work, did a little bit to sort out the mess and got a couple of other people involved to see where it went wrong. After that, I logged out again, fed the cats, collected up the recycling for today’s collection and hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb. The rest of the evening involved making some dinner before having a quiet couple of hours on the sofa fussing Blossom. I did not sleep very well, so today I am tired and it’s not even 9am yet. ---

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and sunny. Faux fall round one is over, but round two might show up next week. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. The joy I feel is indescribable. I will also call the pharmacy to get two ‘scripts refilled and go pick’em up. This means I have to people. Ick! Sup will be a hunk o’ beast in the slow cooker with carrots and onions. Sides shall be baby lima beans, rice and rolls. **Coppertone** hope you get the schedule figured out soonest. It’s a shame that you can’t get twenty hours a week in one place. Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Thanksgiving here in Canada, and a holiday. I got nobody to celebrate with, so I was all on my own. No problem. I spent the day at the track, betting horses with friends. Did OK too; not great, but not poorly, so we’re all good.
