What an ass. He needs to get kicked out of power–wha sort of corrupt party s ystem is holding him in place? (Somebody call **duffer** and **Shodan** over, will ya? This might help them calibrate their outrage meters correctly). ---

Believe it or not, I have people in my life who are defending this asshole. I don’t like or respect these people, but their line of defense seems to be: 1. different areas of the country have different customs and slang, so “little girl” may be OK in the MD area and 2. he’s old and alot of that generation seem to do this. WTF is what I say. I know alot of the WW2 generation that would be too well bred to do any such thing, but maybe that doesn’t count. I can’t even address the other argument because it is too silly. I do wish the “little girls” would get together and sue the hell out of this old goat. Where is it written that old=above reproach? Blech. ---

Blech. Random anecdote: when I was in highschool, a friend of mine was a White House page or intern or something over the summer and got felt up by Strom Thurmond on the Senate floor. When she told somebody else, they expressed surprise that he would go after her, a swarthy type, since he usually preferred blondes. ---

You (and Schaefer) seem to assume that the only way that HIV spreads is through deliberate and malicious strategies of “barebacking” or bug-chasing, and that people who give it to others are always doing so intentionally, or at the very least with wilfull recklessness. Life is not quite that simple or black and white. People do unwise things all the time, and unprotected sex is one of them. There are some people who are smart enough or committed enough to practice safe sex every single time they fuck someone, but it doesn’t always happen like that. When i was young and single, i had sex with a number of partners without using a condom. Sometimes it was just because there wasn’t one available; sometimes it was based on some nebulous conception of whether the woman in question was likely to be a risky partner (whatever the hell that meant). I’m sure the women i slept with were making similar calculations. Was this stupid? Sure. And i’m glad that i haven’t paid a price for my recklessness. But to say that this makes me a bad person would mean including a very sizable portion of the human race in that group. The percentage of people who are HIV+, who _know_ they are HIV+, and who still fuck around without protection, is miniscule. These people are, i agree, contemptible. But somehow i didn’t get the impression that Schaefer was speaking just about those people. ---

Not only that, but the fact that so many prominent people who were sitting right there—including the Governor of the state—have not even had the integrity to say that what he did was inappropriate. ---

At 84 years old he could always pass it off as senility or early Alzheimer’s. Plus Willy Don is MD’s Strom Thurmond. As long as he’s breating he’ll have a job in MD politics. ---

So, is Cecil right when he slams Baltimore? Get the guy out of office–we can’t do it–but Marylanders can. Jeesh–it sounds to me like he’s part court jester there and part “nothing you can do about it”. You can–kick the fucking goat the hell out. Better yet–get him defeated by a “little girl”. ---
