Good morning everyone. Right now, it’s 62F and sunny outside with an expected high of 87F and partly cloudy skies for the day. It was very, very warm yesterday, but I managed to survive. We had a wonderful time visiting with our friends and catching up. It had been a long while since we’d seen each other, and I’m so glad we managed to catch up. We left there a little after 9:30 pm because the skeeters were becoming unbearable, and we were all hanging out in their backyard. I will need to invite them to our place next time, maybe while I’m on vacation. Normally, I would drive to the office tomorrow, but since I have to be there for some security assessment on Tuesday, I will switch my in-office day. **nellie** , I’m so sorry you had such a rough night! I hope you’re feeling much better today. **sari** , sorry to read you’re still dealing with pain, and I’m glad you put your foot down about driving school. Being constantly sleep-deprived probably isn’t doing much for your pain issues, either. I need to cut the grass and do a couple of loads of laundry. I did one load yesterday, but I need to wash sheets and towels and a load of light delicates (work blouses and such). I am also thinking about heading down to Home Depot this morning, but I won’t feel bad if I don’t go there. I want to finish out the pavers in my little garden area, but I have a feeling the ones I need won’t be there. I want to buy more planters, dirt, and plants too. It’s like a sickness; I can’t stop with the plants. I am also thinking of going ahead and building a couple of raised beds on the slope behind my container garden and filling it with hydrangeas and taller plants. I can’t grow ANYTHING in that dirt, so I need to build raised planter beds. It’s not that hard building on a slope, but I’ll need to ensure I have supporting posts and some spanners built into the beds because I plan to make them somewhat long. Need the side and corner posts plus some spanners because the weight of the dirt will push out the sides otherwise. I don’t know, just some plans I’m turning over in my head. I lie awake at night, reviewing plans and designs for my garden, and house in my head. I start with “What if…” and then I start building stuff up in my head. My stupid brain doesn’t stop. Alrighty then, I need to get on with the day! I hope you all have a good one. ---

Last week, I was helping **SenGirl** launch her boat and the strong gust of wind caught the sail, whipping the boom into me. Fortunately, it knocked my glasses sideways a bit, but didn’t either break them or smash them into my eyes. Woke up to a tornado warning this morning. Not a normal occurrence in phila, pa. Got up to check the details, the warning was north and west of phila. We are having strong storms going through this morning. The cats and I will stay calm yet wary as we look out the window. So far we have had temptations for the cats and an ice cream popsicle for me. ---

Morning, all! I woke up earlier than usual: it’s not even noon and I’m already all caught up with my outstanding bill paying/records updating/volunteer-related stuff. I also started my laundry. I do have a pending project: I have hard copies all of Bailey’s records (going back to 2008) in a big red binder but my digital records only go back to 2013, and the other day I decided to scan the older ones and then throw away all of the hard copies. I have all of her digital records in my Google Drive, but I’ll be changing vets this fall and – even though they can likely get all of her recent info transferred digitally – I decided to get a dedicated thumb drive for her stuff. I bought a cute little [doggy](https://www.amazon.com/EcooDisk-Cartoon-Lovely-Storage-Jewelry/dp/B07X2W8MLP/) one\* 🐕, and it occurred to me that it’s only really useful if _all_ of her records are on it. I don’t feel up to starting the scanning today, though; it can wait. \*It was cheap and arrived loose in a padded envelope, so I plugged it into an old air-gapped laptop and reformatted it before connecting it to my home computer. Just to be on the safe side. I had tentative plans to go hear a friend sing some jazz this evening, but I’m gonna skip it: I have a ticket for Blues Alley on Tuesday night, and decided that one “school night” show in a week is enough…and I’d much rather go to Blues Alley. 😁 So, the remainder of my Sunday shall comprise doing very little. I’m about to relocate to the living room, where I’ll eat some lunch and do some reading before I resume binge-watching old episodes of _Suits_. I’ll put the laundry in the dryer and eventually bring it in/put it away, but it’s a single small load and won’t require much effort/interruption of my slothing. Help! I’ve fallen (behind), and I can’t get (caught) up! Why do I do this to myself? As I’ve said before, I always want to reply to each post, which would be silly. This morning, I woke up to find the Covid booster injection site red and swollen to tennis ball size. For a minute there, I thought I had huge biceps. 💪 🙂 Have any of you had this reaction before? I haven’t. I’m not worried, as this is part of the pre-shot warning bit. (_May experience redness, swelling, and irritation at the injection site. Offer good only at participating arms. See your drug dealer for details._) I just find it curious. My knee is better today. Since the painters finally finished the trim, I put my chairs back on the balcony. The plants are already out there. And it’s feeding and watering day. No hummers yet. Is it something I said? Re: sewing class, as I said, I was terrible. We’re talking “I Love Lucy” level of awfulness. One day I was stitching a side seam. When I got to the end of the seam, I took my foot off the machine pedal. The machine kept going! There was no Off switch. I said, “Help!” but the teacher was busy. Finally I ducked under the counter, found the outlet, and unplugged it. And then I discovered the culprit: a straight pin that got jammed in the pedal, keeping it depressed. I was depressed, too, when I saw that while I was unplugging the machine, it had gone mad, and I now had at least a hundred stitches to remove from my lavender skirt. I never did finish that thing. **sari** , your algebra teacher sounds a lot like my drivers ed teacher, who openly told us girls were terrible drivers, so the highest grade we could hope for was a D. I rolled my eyes a lot and argued with him. One girl told me, “If you’d just stay quiet, you’d probably pass.” She did. I didn’t. Mom and Dad paid for driving school, and it was MUCH better. That same teacher had my steady-as-a-rock sister so rattled, she didn’t learn how to drive until she was 22 and her bold and brave husband taught her. Speaking of which, glad you’re sending **sari-son** to driving school. I know how badly you need him to drive, and of course, so does he. He must be really frightened of driving if he’s protesting and offering to walk. My fingers are crossed for both of you. **MetalMouse** , sounds like the mini Dopefest went well! Swollen is one thing; “tennis ball” is … well, that seems like cause for concern. At least call it in; maybe your doc lets you send pictures or do a video conference, so you don’t hafta drag yourself over? (I did LOL at your arms/drug dealer quip. When I arrived in MIA and turned on my phone I discovered that Her Ladyship, Daughter, & kidlet would be gone all morning in church & subsequent potluck, so even though I finished work at around 9:30 there was no rush to get home. So I changed into my beach gear I carry on trips, stopped off in Hollywood at their famed “broadwalk” for a swim at the beach and a platter of Argentinian grilled shrimp. It being Sunday morning, perhaps a tangy Argentinian Bloody Mary or few was included. Perhaps. Life is good. Got home early afternoon to find Daughter out getting a massage, Her Ladyship trying to persuade kidlet to sleep during naptime rather than just wail, and so I silently repacked for the next event. Which is … Earlier in the afternoon, as I was not yet even home from this trip, my phone gave the work alarm again. Leave tomorrow pre-dawn early, home Thu mid-morning if all goes well. Sigh. Should be good company and good eating. Shame about all the excess traveling to get to the party. ---

I should clarify. the swelling is the diameter of a tennis ball. It’s only maybe half a tennis ball high. **metal mouse** is correct about Nelson being a Mama’s boy. It takes him a while to warm up to most other people. Even at half the size of a tennis ball in height, I would want to check in with the medical types **nellie**. Ouch **sensai**! Worked on the wedding album some today. I picked up my new Old Town Manitou Sport kayak today… literally. I had help putting it on the Jeep at REI, but I carried over my head into the back yard to put it on the deck until the tides cooperate. It’s about 15 pounds lighter than my Ocean kayak. The Necky Sky in the background is the one 'Yakwife bought from a neighbour. It’s 9½ feet long, The Old Town is 11 feet long, and the Ocean Kayak (not pictured) is about 12½ feet long. My lovely wife’s sister visited for a couple of hours this morning, so i was able to run out for an iced coffee and half an hour to jot a few pages of notes toward a short story, with a quick Whole Foods stop for an Amazon package, GF DF WF ice cream, and some fruit. Nephew called while we were all home and thus we discussed plans for some upcoming birthday visits. My lovely wife is now resting from the excitement/exertion of sitting up for a few hours. ---

Boy, I’ve missed a lot this week I see. I’m still not sleeping well, so my attention span is limited. I think I’m going to start taking the Tramadol (or “damn it all” as I call it) at bedtime to damp down the achy leg and get some shut-eye. Follow-up appointment with the surgeon’s assistant doctor next Friday. Curious to see how my progress is coming. Listening to Stokowski’s Beethoven’s 9th to soothe the brain. ---

Some tramadol will help. Nobody heals well when they’re not sleeping well. We have survived the departure of Daughter & kidlet. Who post-nap went into total overdrive with the energy of a dozen toddlers. And the quiet obedient nature of maybe two dozen toddlers. Quite the show. But adorable in a chaotic unhinged way. Most of the damage has been contained, flooded compartments pumped dry, and at least some of the stuff we’d re-arranged pre-visit to accommodate them is back where it belongs. Her Ladyship will have the next 3-1/2 days without me to chip away at the rest. Which suits her fine. The silence is wonderful.
