> When I first saw your post about drying kitchen appliances in the oven my immediate thought was to respond with a cautionary tale about my own unhappily cooked plastic parts.

I never noticed there was nylon in it. It’s so old, it didn’t occur to me to look.

When I was but a small little fishie, I was making cookies. Preheated the oven… without remembering to take the cast iron pans and the splatter guard with the plastic handle it of the oven before turning it on. My step-mom was not a happy woman when she caught on to that one…

Got back from the PokémonGo outing (I caught 3 shinies, so I’m happy) to drop off Hubby and CtE before heading to Ollie’s and Kroger. Things for the porch and lots of licorice were obtained, along with the ice cream the kiss aren’t allowed to touch since they are the half gallon I bought last week with no help from us.

Now I’m sitting down for a bit, enjoying a microwave dinner and reading for a bit. If I’m lucky, I’ll talk Hubby into board game playing after a bit.

Home. We spent most of our boat time cleaning the lockers under the flybridge seats. Not only were they cruddy, but the drains from the front to the back on both sides were clogged. We used a length of #10 wire to clear the clogs eventually. Then we scrubbed the seat cushions from the flybridge - they really need to be replaced - maybe next year. Last task was hosing down the crud that had drained from above to the main deck. Things were pretty clean when we left.

Unfortunately, **FCD** dropped his glasses overboard. He took them off to wipe the sweat from his eyes and somehow flung them into the river. Dammit. He just got them in March!! I’m going back to the eye doc to see if he’d gotten replacement insurance. At least he still had his old glasses, so he’s not totally blurry.

After getting cleaned up, we met with Daughter and her kids and went to visit MIL. Roxy was disappointed there weren’t party decorations for great-grandma’s birthday, and further disappointed because MIL didn’t open the cheesecake. Poor child. Anyway, we visited there for a couple of hours and now I’m doing laundry while **FCD** watches the news. Tomorrow we hope to finish the flybridge scrubbage and waxage.

And so it goes…

Dragon blood on the wall. It is a deep colour in the terracotta range. If you like red-orange terracotta colours, this is a good one.

I think my koritza is just fine as the orange that balances the green, luckily the dragon is in a small area.

Neither my parents, my wive’s parents, nor myself, nor my wives ever did or do store anything inside an oven. I _always_ open it up and look before turning it on. Belt meet suspenders. An oven fire is not funny. Not one little bit.

Eyeglasses near boats always belong on a floating leash. Always. They can still get away from you despite that precaution, but it’s a _lot_ harder.

The “Stealth Floater” model is my favorite. They’re also handy for keeping glasses in place on your face while bent over awkwardly laboring inside the confined spaces of a boat. Or while surfing.

Dinner for me was cold leftover groc store roast chicken from two nights ago and leftover green salad from my French-style breakfast yesterday. Some fruit and/or cheese will be round two shortly. Her Ladyship enjoyed the leftover dolmates she brought home from her lady’s luncheon.

My congestion continues unabated but my energy is holding up excellently today. So I’m healthier than yesterday in the ways that benefit me, but not yet the ways that benefit irk. Darn.

Yay **sensai** on the internet connection! No shame in playing [right field](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6okihG5Aosg). That was my position before moving to the announcer’s booth. 🙂

My sweet basil is going gangbusters too **baker**.

SIL and I didn’t make it to the folk medicine festival today. After hitting a couple of bargain places and the farmer’s market (where I picked up two lovely oregano plants to replace the ones that Molly, the dog, dug up), she began to fad. We had tea and scones early at Pop’s Coffee Shop and lunch at my favorite Mexican place there because we both had a jones.

When I got home, a box on my steps held my new desk chair (two days early). I have to say, it was the easiest DIY furniture assembly that I’ve ever done. While their tracking sucked, the chair was a breeze to put together with minimal cursing. The only thing that gave me any issue were the wheels. I had to use a 1X4 between them to tap into place with an 8 oz. hammer. It’s comfy.

And a good early evening to you all. Nappage turned into sleepage so that took out a couple of hours this afternoon. Then decided to have my Sunday dinner on Saturday, so went to the Metro Diner for their meatloaf (even ate the green beans!). And then since I was already feeling decadent, stopped at the ice cream place for a Butter Pecan cone. So I’m back and well-stuffed.

Decided to get a ticket for the new Professional (minor league) soccer team in town for a game they have Sunday, from the looks of it they have done pretty well selling tickets so it cost me $25 face value…and $38.50 once Ticketmaster was done screwing me (sorry for the vulgarity, but I really should know better). All that meant I managed to miss a on-line meeting for the soccer tournament next weekend, but they have a second session on Monday, have already written myself several notes so I don’t forget this one… Think the evening will be given over to digestion and internettin’/readin’.

**red** , enjoy the chair. And yeah, the wheels can be the most frustrating part of the assembly.

**FCM** , I always get two pairs of glasses with my prescription, one in ‘nice’ frames and a ‘el cheapo’ pair of frames that will work if I lose mine. Still, I usually only take them on trips, so if I had been in **FCD’s** position I would have been in a mess.

**Real Fish** , can see the haircut now, and…uum…well, I don’t have that much hair so I am in no position to comment.

**Flyboy** , memories of Tonka.

**Pilot** , been there, ducked T-Boomers too—well-scheduled by you. And I’ve noticed that in FLA, it can rain in sheets and 10 minutes later it’s done.

**Cupcakes** , not sure if I should be amused or appalled at the guy becoming Lt. Gov. His name wasn’t Bluto Blutarsky by any chance?

**Rocky** , sounds like a nice thing you’re doing there for someone starting out in apartment life. Glad the painting went well.

Well, that’s enough mental exercise for today. All y’all take care and I’ll catch up on Sunday.

In keeping with the thread title, I fired up the barbie. We had rib-eye steaks and corn onna cob. I verified that the corner market gets their steaks from Costco, which is why they’re so good. (They cut the steaks themselves at the market.)

Goo got some tribute; mostly little bits of fat, but also a bite of flesh. Now she’s having a baff.

Did Mom ever fess up? Part of the reason I never said anything was because how do you tell your dad that he just ate cat food? Even better, now that you’ve wimped out on telling him at the time, how do you tell you dad that he ate cat food last week? Last month? Last year? It was just so much easier to not have that conversation at all. Plus, he was the one who taught me about life long secrets and some lessons stuck.

Back when Mom was in the hospital after having my baby sister, she asked Dad to bring her some of the carnations out of her garden to make her hospital room smell better (this was back when women spent a week in the hospital after giving birth). Dad went out and cut every flower and bud he could find and when he got to the hospital, he was so excited to meet his new daughter that he left the flowers in the car. He was very upset when he got home and told me to not tell Mom.

The next day, I watched him vainly searching for just one flower for his beloved wife with no success. He bought some flowers from the hospital florist and I didn’t tell Mom about that until the first anniversary of his death. She cried.

Honestly, I don’t need to. This isn’t a beginning class, many of my fellow students have skills that blow mine out of the water and like anything else, there are a few who must be first! The designer is emailing out corrections and apologies without me ganging up on her as well. Five years ago, Mom and I would have been laughing about it as we each found things, but this is now and Mom isn’t the same person she was five years ago. 😢

Thank you for that. Every so often I’m tempted to buy a can because I used to like to eat white bread, mayo and potted meat samwiches with Dad. Its better to not ruin those happy memories by smacking them in the face with reality.

Dad and I used to go to the annual Spamarama and eat fried mystery food until we couldn’t move. Oddly enough, Mom always had plans for that week.

QFT

I am a retired food stamp worker. I saw confused and frightened adult children who didn’t know how to adult but were forced to fend for themselves due to the death of their parents. It was very sad and very frustrating for everyone involved and sadly, many of those people ended up homeless because they didn’t know how to pay bills or handle their money.

> I’m hoping that I can keep it alive, but we’ll see how well I do.

Hopefully you won’t mind some tips. You picked a good starter plant, I know what it is but I don’t know what it is called now because I’m sure Wandering Jew is no longer in use. They like water, but don’t like wet roots so be sure that you have good drainage. That looks like a plastic pot, you can probably use a cordless drill to put more in if it starts getting yellow tips to the leaves.

They also don’t really like AZ sun so are mostly houseplants out this way.

The number one reason most noobs kill plants is overwatering. Don’t just touch the surface of the dirt to see if it needs water, stick your finger into the dirt instead. Don’t water during the day and pour water on the leaves unless your plant is dirty. If there are fires close by, do pour water on the leaves daily because ash can suffocate plants.

I think your plant will do well, that species is very forgiving. I am not sure exactly what you have there, but I’m fairly sure you will get little tiny white flowers next spring. Enjoy 🙂

Comfy is very important. I’ve found that most furniture assembly requires a little percussion correction.

Very Bad Cat would like to remind you that pain in the ass cats need lovings too.

(She was a stray and we didn’t want another cat, so I got her a spot at a rescue and tasked hubs with taking her there in the morning because I had to go to work. She kissed up to him and he took her to the vet for blood work, then brought her in and gave her a name.)

Hiya, Mumpers! I did not make it to the gym yesterday because I was too busy lying curled-up into a crescent and making sounds like a wounded water buffalo. I have not taken that med in 36 hours, but my tummy is still pretty crummy. There’s a black box warning for this stuff because it tends to cause stomach bleeding. And, of course, now my knee hurts. I forced myself to walk the mile to the store to get yogurt, however, so I can take **JtC’s** suggestion. I’ll have some when my insides use their inside voices.

I hope I’m feeling better by Saturday. Ms. Dog will be paying me a visit. Her person is an attorney and has volunteered to be a legal observer at a Pride parade, one of a fair number of lawyers to serve. Apparently there have been a lot of death threats and such this year. A bunch of current and retired military have volunteered to do security. I wish I could help but will content myself with making a rainbow bow for Ms. Dog’s collar.

I feel weird every time I use the word “lawyer.” For some reason, our mom drummed it into our heads that we were always supposed to say “attorney,” not “lawyer.” I have no idea why.

My son had to take my DIL to the doc for vertigo. I guess it’s not uncommon with COVID. Again I’m grateful they were both fully vaxxed. The doc put her on some meds, so fingers crossed. And the good news: they’re testing negative now.

**Hippie** , that _Godfather_ story had me laughing so hard. I can’t wait 'til I tell my siblings! Ha! The shirt tail story is also good. I bet your mom wasn’t too happy about the state of your shirt!

**Flyboy** , I remember when you lost Tonka. A sad day in Mumperland. And I’m sorry about the oven. Mom used to keep her Tupperware in the oven. And then…well, she needed a new oven anyway.

**True Fish** , did you save the hair clippings? Maybe I could glue 'em to the back of my head.

**FCM** , hope **FCD** can get new specs soonest. And I feel for Roxy. There should be a law that all birthday cakes must be opened and served, at least to the kids. Also, if a person is baking something delectable that is filling the house with a mouthwatering aroma, and it turns out to be for a church supper or bake sale, there must be an identical item made for the family.

**Pilot** , glad you survived the storm OK and didn’t have to use your seat cushion as a flotation device.

Still more to read, but the picture reminds me of a another British Comedian, Maisie Adam. I’ve seen her on QI, but haven’t seen anything else of hers.

Like the Tardis 🙂

You all are writing so much, I can barely keep up.

Work is still massively weird, but this week is vacation! And it’s sunny! Yesterday we did chores, today we’re going on a steamship and probably up a mountain. Tomorrow will be chores. So goeth adulting.

While it’s not yet midnight here in the PNW, I’m taking an opportunity to wish everyone a happy Bobbie Gentry Day.
