# Old Friends & New Fancies: the sequel to Jane Austen's novels

I’ve just finished reading this work: _Old Friends & New Fancies_. It was written in 1913 by Sybil Brinton and is a sequel to Jane Austen’s novels (principally to _Pride and Prejudice_) that brings together characters from all six of her books.
Has anyone read it? I thought that it was going to be overly contrived but it actually seemed to proceed reasonably smoothly plot-wise. And I think that the author did a pretty good job capturing Austen’s literary style.
It ends with some fairly interesting marriages among Austen’s remaining unmarried characters.

I enjoyed it. I read it quite a few years ago, though, so I am a little rusty on some of the details - was this the one where she killed Col. Brandon off?

Yes, although he and his wife are only mentioned cursorily. The major plot revolves around the involvement between and subsequent marriages of:various characters from Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.

Right, I remember that Elinor and Elizabeth were good friends, which makes perfect sense. They would get along well, I think.

I _tried_ to read it. I found the writing to be overly mannered, and trying to hard to sound like Austen without succeeding.
But it was a while ago. Maybe I should give it another try.

Anybody else tried _Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife_? I enjoyed it, even though it’s most aptly described as “period porn.” The only thing I didn’t like was the way she made
