What a pretty pup! I will confess to liking her current pic now, the grace and dignity some old dogs attain is just amazing.

> I’ve had my Kitchenaid for 30 years now.

I’m hoping to get that much use out of this one. Of course, if it broke after 25 years, that would mean that I manage to live long enough to wear it out which wouldn’t be a bad thing either.

(grumbly family story: Mom had a KitchenAid when I was growing up and when she was moving house after retiring, I asked her for it. She gave it to my user sister instead because “you are working so you can afford to buy one yourself”. A year later, user sister realized that Mom and Dad weren’t right there to bail her out on a regular basis, so moved to Boise to be with them. Of course she pitched all of her old kitchen stuff because she knew Mom would buy her new stuff yet again and another piece of my childhood was gone.)

Some idiot forgot to salt the bread, but the cookies came out very well. It’s OK, though. We don’t like white bread, I was just trying my new toy out and chickens like unsalted bread even if it is boring ol’ white bread.

I am so sorry for them. And for you. Losing good friends is horrible, no matter how long they have been able to circle the sun.

Did you know you can buy toilet attachments?

I installed one myself, it wasn’t complicated so I’m sure one of your kids could easily do it for you.

Oh, I learned that lesson many, MANY years ago, LOL!!!

Exactly. Plus, when our mothers tried it, they were so much younger than we are today. I certainly wouldn’t have thought about buying a used mixer for wax when I was 30, but thrift stores were my first thought when I was 60ish and needed to melt cheese wax.

Your beard is growing in great, but I’m liking your happy, relaxed smile more 🙂

LOL, ya want a cookie little boy?

The only reason I don’t have Divinity drying is because I don’t have any pecans. I’ll have some tomorrow, though!

> Now I get to practice backing into the garage.

I’ve heard of folks hanging tennis balls just before the bump zone to warn them to stop.

I once knew a rather flamboyant gay man who had two cars, one of which was a sweet restored T-bird convertible. One day his SO used his convertible and backed it into the garage with the top down. A couple of days later, friend thought he should put a few miles on his bird but always ended up rushing to get to work.

He started his bird, noticed that the top was down and hit the button to raise the top as he hit his garage door opener. He shifted into drive and the top of the garage door and the convertible met with loud and upsetting results, so he panicked and reversed into his kitchen.

The memory of him recounting his story 20 years ago still has me laughing today.

Never, probably not even when you are dead because we aren’t rotting as fast as we should be.

I was already considering it. (I thought I’d be returning it.)

Hell, I already take jars to work, so **Sweet Manager** a woman older than I, can open them for me.
Or I ask one of the guys.

Anyway, here’s the timer in question (plus a pic of the diagram showing how it’s supposed to work, and the instructions for shits’n’giggles) if any of you smart folks wanna take a stab at it:

I think that’s a very creative gift for someone who collects a certain thing!

Heck, she might discover a whole new hobby out of it.
At minimum, it’s an interesting and unusual addition to her collection.

True. There’s something to be said for being able to dive right into the thick of the story.(“Okay, so you remember my former boss, the one who was arrested for assisting homicide? Well, get _this!_”)

You aren’t the first Doper on a quest to get their fellow Dopers to have clean, happy bums. ( **Q the M** mentions them a lot, too.)

Less than thirty dollars, though? Dang. That falls into “do-able” range.

Thing is, if it uses local cold tap water … I mean, Michigan winters … that’s a helluva wakeup.

Mmm … refreshing!!! ❄

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and cloudy. Weather app has had enough of that and shrieks “Loitering fucking clouds!” It is indeed cloudy, and it’s been raining on my trek to campus so I’m slightly soggy.

I have read much and retained little, largely because I’m still full of crud. I’m still working so that’s a good thing, but I am not feeling all that bright. Fortunately we have a couple of quiet-ish weeks now as next week is Reading Week so campus will be pretty much deserted. I’ve got a bunch of fairly simple jobs to get through so at least they don’t require too much concentration as I’m pretty short on focus today.

Rosie’s sig to all!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is mowage. We are not in danger of bein’ the worst yahd in da ‘hood, but it has been almost three weeks and so lookin’ a little shabby. With any luck, this will be the last of the season. Of course, with my luck, it will need mowage the week of Thanksgiving. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit, just cause.

**Nellie** sorry to hear about your friend. Glad you’re still enjoyin’ house sittin’.

**Pilot** sorry to hear about your aunt. Hope the rain stops and y’all have some fun adventure. You look happy in the pic. I could flirt, but I am lame at that. The best I could do would be “How _you_ doin’?” See, lame!

**sari** hope the move gets all done on Moanday as you want, so sah-son and you can rest up.

**JtC** looks like the mixer is meetin’ with approval.

**MetalMouse** turtle crackers are cheddar cheese crackers shaped like turtles. As **MOOOOOOM** pointed out, one gets 'em at Aldi’s.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

And they’ve got a better flavor than goldfish, IMHO. But mostly I buy them because of the adorable way Tobias says _turtles_! (strong emphasis on both t’s)

**pilot** - quick look at your photo reminded me of one of my BILs (sister’s husband) except he wears his hair in a ponytail, and he never smiles… But on closer examination, there’s nothing beyond superficial similarity, so that’s good for you. 😉

**FCD** has been wanting a bidet attachment, so we’re going to give the linked one a try. Neither of our bathrooms has space for a dedicated bidet - heck, the master bath occupies all of 5’X8’ so barely room for sink, terlit, and shower, plus a throw rug. So, anyway, thanks for the link!

I’ll give Wiggle Giggle a chance again today, I guess. Or I might just take him to a playground - I think he enjoys that more anyway. We’ll see how I feel later this morning. I’m a little draggy - I started last night in jammies, but I got too hot under the covers, so I tossed them, and then got too chilly, so I had to pull out one of my sleep shirts, and then I was able to sleep. It’s weird that there’s such a difference between nothing and a long t-shirt, but for me it’s the difference between awake and asleep.

And so begins my day. I need to do some roll-suck before the kid gets here, which means I need to shower and dress, which means I need to get away from this computer. You people are a distraction to my productivity!!! Quit being so sociable!!!

Happy Thursday, dammit!

🤣

Morning all. Up about 7am, so got my 8 hours sleepage in. Another nice day, 63F heading for 82F and dry, so October has been a good month for my AC _and_ Heating to take some time off. Normally I’d be coaching soccer this afternoon, but the local High School is having a Homecoming parade on the major street dividing me (and most of my players) from the park we practice at, so it would be a detour into a very messy traffic situation, so I just told them to take the day off. Not much else on the agenda, some gym time probably to get me out of the house and some house-irk, and that’ll do.

May have to stop by Aldi’s and look for those Turtle crackers; been looking for something to snack on that I don’t love so much that I can’t stop eating them (see Cheese Balls), might have to give them a try.

**Sari** , sounds like the end is in sight on the moving, but you’ll have to face up to getting Adam to make the move. Sounds like you did right by Sah-son, let him do as much as possible but then called in the pros for the tough stuff. And who is this Richard person that you are on a first-name basis with? As for B/H Mom, forget her whining, you’ve been a bit busy these last few days.

**JtC** , life isn’t always fair and we get the relations we’re born with, but no-one is going to take your Mixer away.

**shoe** , don’t know what to suggest for the lighting thingie. Maybe someone brighter than me can help. Least you got credit for it.

**boo fae** , hope you get feeling better for the weekend, after all, that’s the important part of the week… 😉

**swampy** , mowage is probably next week for me, hopefully it will also be the last one of the season, mowing your yard in November just seems _wrong_, even if I’ve been down South for 25 years.

On the bidet front, I have thought about one for some time (since encountering a Japanese-made one on my travels…twas’ wonderful…so maybe I make that a New Years resolution. Also want to look into a back-yard enclosure and maybe make my second bathroom tub more of a walk-in shower. All of them are “we’ll see” projects for now.

OK, need to break my fast and then get up and do things (who am I kidding, back to internettin’). Have a good Thorsday all.

Got some sleep, but stayed up way too late last night so need more. Thankfully it’s my Blessed Day Off so a nap is in my future.

Work was fine, but once I got home … I dunno, was just in a funky mood. Wound up just derping mindlessly on my phone.

Didn’t eat all that much, though work was snack-full.

Now I want breakfast, but also don’t really wanna get out of bed. Clock’s a-tickin’ though, since the nearby cheapie diners knock off the eggs’n’bacon at 11.

Otherwise, it’ll be a Toaster Strudel, or toast w P.B.

'Tis quite drippy, so the gorgeous multicolored maples have lost a lot of their leaves, creating gorgeous multicolored (but wet & slippery) carpets along the sidewalks.

Lots of the leaves still remain up high, and the oaks have only started to turn, so there’s quite the technicolor effect out there.

Feel better soonest **BooFae**!

Up, caffeinating, bed stripped, towels / sheets through all cycles, bed remade, jeans in the dryer, clothes in the wash, breakfasted and fixing to make the weekly menu / grocery list to fulfill later. I’ll vacuum, sweep and wipe down counters after bit too. Nelson will likely get a trip to the dog park later.

Tomorrow, I have a doctor appointment, then Sis will be up late in the evening, so I’m trying to knock out the Friday chores.

At some point yesterday I came to believe it was Thursday, and sent an email to some folks referencing a meeting “tomorrow” (i.e., today) that isn’t until Friday (i.e., tomorrow). Also, I _completely_ spaced on a volunteer-related meeting last night…for the committee that I chair/the meeting that I facilitate. 🤦‍♀️ I usually keep my Google calendar open in a tab and peek at it a few times a day, but apparently I didn’t look at it at _all_ yesterday because I totally forgot about the meeting until I got the reminder email 10 minutes before it started. I’d eaten dinner and was sitting on my couch with some freshly-nuked popcorn, and had just started to watch the latest episode of _The Irrational_: thank goodness I actually looked at my email when I heard the notification! I normally send out an agenda in the morning, have notes in front of me during the meeting, etc. When the meeting started I apologized to my committee members for being disorganized, but they all just laughed because normally I’m pretty anal retentive. 🙂

I’m chalking my disorientation up to the combination of a few things: (a) going straight from working to being out of the house from 5:30pm-10:00pm on Tuesday; (b) not going to the gym on Tuesday; and (c) usually there’s a status meeting with all of the senior managers at 9:30 every morning, but this is a big “planning our upcoming work” week with tons of customer meetings so all but tomorrow’s got cancelled (maybe those daily status meetings are more grounding for me than I realized!).

Work _should_ be fairly quiet today (🤞🤞): my only meeting got cancelled, and I’m caught up on everything but my long-term projects.

This is an anniversary of sorts for me, and kicks off an emotional-ish week: 8 years ago today, my mom’s assisted living facility sent her to a nearby ER in the middle of the night because she’d fallen out of bed and hit her head. She died a week later (not because of the fall; it’s complicated, but ultimately sepsis is what killed her). I didn’t get there for a couple of days – the hospital was only an hour away, but she was a “frequent flyer” and work was slammed so I didn’t go right away; also, it took a while for the docs/my dad and bro to realize how serious her condition was – but by the end of the first day she was unconscious. So, I never got to say goodbye to her. I’d gotten an email from her two days before, but the last time I’d seen/talked with her had been two weeks prior. This time every year is easier than the year before, but the coming week will still be filled with fun memories (the moment I realized she was never going to wake up, having The Talk with my brother, bringing in a priest for last rites, contacting a funeral home, etc.). I’m not/won’t be _sad_, exactly…just, aware of what was going on 8 years ago. If that makes any sense.

Time for some replies, then an apple and PB&J for lunch…and time to open the windows, because it’s 72°F and sunny with an expected high of 79! 🪟 🌞

This made me realize that my father (75) is now my oldest living blood relative! The two uncles who died earlier this year – one on each side of the family – were both older than him. I have an uncle-by-marriage who’s 80 and an aunt-by-marriage (the recently widowed one) who’s 82, but Dad’s the oldest left in terms of blood relations. Huh.

You ain’t foolin’! Bailey’s my first dog, so I had no idea before. 🙂 I mean, I knew that really old dogs got gray, but I had no idea how much of the puppy coloring would change just by the time she was 2 years old…and how she would keep changing over the years!

A frequent battle of my own. A couple of months ago I discovered [Nonni’s ThinAddictives cranberry and almond](https://nonnis.com/products/cranberry-almond-thins/) cookies, and recently realized that I was eating literally a box of them at a time! 😮 I only just stopped buying them the last time I went to the store. I have a lab appointment in a month: my deal with myself is that if my bloodwork results are acceptable, I can buy more then.

It’s a 2001 USA-made that I bought in about 2015 or so. It didn’t have a mark on it and the store guy had just done a complete tune-up on it. And it came with the hard case, so I had no choice but to buy it.

Yeah, sorry about the whining. I usually don’t dwell on that sort of thing but I had just talked to Mom who was happily reminiscing on all of the mother-daughter cruises she took with my sisters. I was never invited because I was working and she always assumed that I wouldn’t be able to get time off.

To everyone who’s now thinking about a bidet attachment, there are tons of options. If you want to spend the money for a professional, you can get attachments are wired into your electric so you can have hot water and even a nice warm air dry option.

I also saw some that plugged into the wall, but not a whole lot of folks have electric outlets behind their toilet.

**shoe** if you get one, also get a roll of **[teflon tape](https://www.amazon.com/Inches-Plumbers-Plumbing-Plumber-Sealing/dp/B0919T7JV1/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=UD7BC1C27N8N&keywords=teflon+tape&qid=1698336765&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sprefix=tef%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1)**. One roll will last the average person about 2 and a half lifetimes if it doesn’t get misplaced so don’t waste money on a multi-pack to save money buying bulk.

Oopsie! I used to work with three calendars hanging on my cube wall, one for last month, one for this month and one for next month to help me keep track of which day I was actually planning for.

🫂

Last night a friend who volunteers to load boxes into cars at the surplus produce events told me to go to the one today (I don’t usually go twice a week, they give us way too much food) because they would give me a big bag of cat kibble. We wouldn’t use most free cat food because ours get grain-free, but I know a couple of folks who do cat rescue and knew they would want it.

It turned out to be dog food, but that’s OK, TC friend has four dogs and will be happy for the kibble. Speaking of TC, I better get my stuff together and take off.

Have a great Thursday!

> This made me realize that my father (75) is now my oldest living blood relative!

My mom, 90 in January, is the oldest of my blood relatives. MIL is 92 and she has a 96-y/o sister in hospice who likely won’t see Christmas, or possibly Thanksgiving either. My oldest cousins will be 80 next year.

I was just thinking this morning, I don’t feel like I’m almost 70, not that I know what 70 feels like. Aging is weird.

In about an hour, I will take Tobias to the playground near Daughter’s school. If she gets done early enough, she’ll take him and fetch Roxy. If something comes up, I’ll take him home and meet the bus. Regardless, I need to run to the store on the way home.

Always exciting!

Unbeknownst to me, the wife ordered a trio of Iberico sliced hams from La Tienda, so we had that for dinner with some cantaloupe to offset the saltiness. If you ever want to spend most of your paycheck, that’s a good website.

Afternoon all. Got some pedaling in early and been watching soccer all afternoon, so might go out tonight and get the remainder of Wednesday’s swimming in (only did 750 yards last night, usually do about 1250-1300 for a day) or maybe not, we’ll see. 78F outside, so no need to run the AC or the Heat again.

**shoe** , hope lunch was good.

**FCM** , saw the pic, at least most of the Yogurt went where it was supposed too…

**Oopsie** , been there, forgot the day that. Usually I remember things due to gym or soccer and I have a weekly list written out my day that is right by my computer, so I can check that, but yeah, when things are moved around, there are days… And my Mom died while I was on the plane heading home while my Dad passed away while I was working in the Middle East, so I know those regrets. So yeah, it makes sense. {{{ }}}. And I think am my oldest living relative, I may have a cousin or two still around that I haven’t seen or heard from in 20 years, but otherwise… And I’m trying some Skinny Pop Popcorn that comes in little 80-calorie bags, so far I have been pretty good at limiting myself to one (well, maybe two) bags a day.

**JtC** , Apologies, didn’t mean to suggest you were whining; just noting that you are not alone in having relations that are, well, relative… And the cats will love you.

OK, time to go back to TV and then Cheeseburger!!!

Got a surprise check in the mail from our electric co-op for $150! I had signed up for an energy-reduction program and I guess met the criteria for the biggest check. So yay!

Tobias fell asleep when I put him in the car and he continued to sleep till 3 when Daughter pulled up next to me at the playground. She took him to play for a bit and I went to Food Lion for some stuff. Chillage for tonight, prepping for the fundraiser tomorrow.

Set-up will start around 6:30 on Sat, but I plan to get there around 7:30. **FCD** will take me there and help me raise my canopy, and he’ll come back to pick me up afterwards. I need to pack a lunch and some water, and tomorrow I need to get change. And I should make a list…

That’s for tomorrow. Chillage tonight.

Well that was a hell of a day. Out the door at 6:30, 4 1/2 hour drive in the big dumb truck, set up, then 4 1/2 hours back in a big dumb empty truck. Home at 6:30. You ever ride in a small-ish boat at 35-40 mph? Know how every little ripple and wave hits really hard. That’s what driving the empty truck felt like. I’m pooped.

Here’s my giant illuminated “L”.
