Small crustaceans seem to be the source of one of the many language differences between the UK and the USA. “Shrimp Scampi” is nonsense to us.

To us, “shrimps” are tiny little things, usually found in a “cocktail” of Marie Rose sauce and some lettuce leaves. "Prawns are bigger and get served in many different ways, sometimes peeled and fried as _tempura_, and sometimes complete with carapace, head and all those legs.

“Scampi” is properly made from the tails of langoustine ( _Nephrops norvegicus_), which is a small lobster, but supermarkets and many restaurants might label any white fishy stuff, fried in breadcrumbs as scampi.
