(Old) Hunt for Bed October in the MMP

Damn. I haven’t kept up with the thread. What happened?

:people_hugging:

… one piece of filet mignon, one little square of potato pavé, and one piece of asparagus from ‘dinner’ last night. She took them out of the fridge, and I thought she was going to eat them for dinner. (She had cashews.) Apparently, her leftovers were smelling up the fridge. I put a plastic container next to her take-out box, and she eventually made the transfer and put it into the fridge.

It’s 21:23, and she has shuffled off to Buffalo-land. (Like, just now. She’s not asleep.) I’m thinking I’ll have a small glass of sauce and watch South Park.

3 wins, 2 losses.
Means one of them will be 4-2 or die trying and the other one will be 3-3.

Address please.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

Done with my very nice academic course. About to bus to northern Portugal. I’ll be there only a day as I walk back to pretty much right where I’m waiting now in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Spot is currently trying to kill and eat a Zebra(F-402 ink pen).

The Cathedral looks nice.

It’s a very interesting one. Yesterday’s fieldtrip was a tour up on the roof, and rather vertigo-inducing. Fun to peer in through the windows above the altar.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s probably a fucking good day to stay the fuck in bed. Today will probably fucking suck.” I disagree, I think today will be a good one, I have stuff to do and need to be out of the house. We do have a weather warning for strong winds on the tail of Storm Amy but outside, there’s sunshine and blue sky.

I don’t think I’ve ever had Krispy Kreme, I know there are places selling them but they don’t appeal to me. My KK’s is KK’s Steel Mill, and the KK is, of course, KK Downing from Judas Priest who is known to hang around the venue sometimes.

Poor thing, she’s really been through the wringer lately, hasn’t she? I’m glad she has you to take her to some sessions and keep her company, she’s very lucky.

Thank you  She has been quite hard work but I think she is worth the effort. She’s spending most of her time on the fleecy blanket under the window now so she’s right next to my desk. Today she was wandering around, rubbing against me, and pushing her head into my hand to ask for fuss. She’s got a long way to go yet, but she’s come a long way too.

Lily safe travels, and enjoy the walk!

Yesterday was an uneventful irk day which was good, and I was able to finish on time. Logged out and went to do some domestic stuff so that’s out of the way. ‘im indoors made Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice for dinner, and we watched a film before I went to bed.

Today I was up at my usual time, tended to the needs of mogs, had some breakfast and am on my third cup of tea since it’ll be the last one I get this morning. I need to be out of the house as soon as I’ve posted this, since I have an appointment at the tattoo place at 10am. Should be finished in about 3hrs, then ‘im indoors is meeting me there and we’ll walk the rest of the way into town for lunch. I’m not sure I have any errands to do, but we’ll see. Other than that, we have no plans for the rest of the day which means there’s a significant chance of day-drinking in the Posada

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 81 and cloudy. Good day to be home. My DAWGS play Kentucky at noon, so I shall watch. Tomorrow is brunch Sunday so I will make a corn casserole and a chawklit cake with chawklit pee-kahn icin’. I will make the cake today and make the corn casserole tomorrow mornin’ as it’s a mix, bake and serve in one dish. Takes all of five minutes to mix and it can bake whilst I purtify. The ECW is havin’ their annual yahd sale next Sattidy. We can start to bring stuff in tomorrow, so we’ll load up OYKW’s vehicle at some point today. Any need to feed today will be via forage. We have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips and so forth.

{{{Coppertone}}} so sorry about your ex. Such a young age to die! May you find comfort in your memories of him.

Oopsie sorry about your friend’s continued woes. She is so lucky to have you there for support.

Lily glad your trip has gone so well. Enjoy the walk!

BooFae hooray for Muffin progress!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Our late cat Taz, on two separate occasions, peed on me as I lay in bed. No clue why, but after the second time, we started keeping our bedroom door closed. Who knows the minds of animals???

I don’t know if any kids still go door to door in our neighborhood. The houses are spaced pretty far apart so it’s a lot of walking for some treats. Heck, some parents drive the kids in little utiity vehicles… But after our first year here when I think we got 10 kids, I kept the lights out - partly because it wasn’t worth the hassle, mostly because we had a dog who didn’t like knocks on the door. It’s just easier that way.

I’m somewhat surprised and very pleased that I’m not all stiff and sore. It’s nice to have the fence done so I can let Otis out for his morning constitutional without worries.

Trevor will spend the afternoon with us - Daughter and her crew are going to an event in Fredericksburg and they didn’t want to leave the poor boy crated all day. So Otis has a play date.

I need to run to Food Lion early for a couple more cans of wet food and some 'nanners for FCD. Not sure what else we might need, but it’ll be a quick stop, not a major shop. Weekends are insane in local grocery stores and I usually avoid them. It’s also a delayed laundry day - I just didn’t have it in me to deal with it yesterday.

So that’s all I’ve got. FCD plans to be in his shop most of today doing non-demanding tasks. He needs a coupld days of rest. So as long as the dogs play nice, it’ll be a non-demanding day mostly.

Happy Saturday!!

Morning all. Set the alarm for 6:30am so of course was wide awake at 5:30, so have broken fast and need to get dressed here in a bit for my Saturday of Soccer which will start at 8am. Could be an interesting day, Fall Break (the schools take a week off) started today and lots of folks use it as a late vacation/family visit time, so having enough players available can be problematic (my teams should be ok). It’s 56F right now but heading to 82F so just about a perfect day for it.

Bright Tree, wow, that is a side effect! And I should keep my pills on the nightstand, but they’ve always been by my computer so TRADITION!

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

After reading down, sorry I didn’t have a burger and fries last night…maybe today…

lily will be in Libson in April for my cruise, any ‘must sees’ there (that don’t involve walking the country).

Boo fae, the only proper Krispy Kremes are the ones gotten hot out of the cooker, the store-bought ones are so-so. Hope the tattoo looks good.

FCM, enjoy your dog day afternoon.

And nearly time to suit up and head for the fields. Will report back after the day’s activities are done. Have a good Sattiday all.

Lots. Sintra for sure. The palace and the moorish castle are cool. Tile museum and the many stations and buildings with tile and painted murals. The castle and its grounds.

We’re having an unusual spike in hot weather this week and it will likely hit 90 today before dropping off. And of course the fucking AC is acting up again. They got it working right yesterday, then everyone left for the weekend and it’s back to blowing tepid air. This doesn’t bode well for the colder weather when we need the heat to be working. The new executive director will be starting this month and I guess I’ll have to be the PITA and push her to get a technician in here who actually knows how to fix this mess.

Nothing planned for the day, but the daughter and her youngest son are coming over tomorrow. I’ll be writing a check for him as a graduation present.

I’m in Omaha, in a big impersonal hotel getting ready to go over to another even bigger hotel to do a presentation on disability rights and self-advocacy (in other words to encourage others to ‘make good trouble’ when and where it needs to be made) at a multi-state conference. Been doing this for decades, you’d think I’d be less nervous by now.

Gotta go iron my dress and shower. Think good, rabble rousing thoughts for me. No need to stand by to post bail though, today I’m not doing that kind of rabble rousing. It’ll all be over, success or fail, by 2:30pm Central time. I brought a big bag of Hersheys miniatures to scatter at the tables-I believe in a ministry by chocolate.

Just in time for the 3pm kick off of the Cornhusker-Michigan game. It’s our Homecoming so it’s probably a a good day for me to be out of town and away from the traffic chaos at Memorial Stadium a mile from my house. I’ll have to find a place to watch the game, may have to skip the last couple breakout sessions and find a nearby sports bar. I’ll be dressed up in team colors, black dress, big “N” lapel pin, red sweater instead of my usual jeans and Cornhuskers t-shirt. Impersonating a grownup since I’m speechifying. :american_football::ear_of_corn: Go Big Red :american_football::ear_of_corn:!!

Tell us who you’re rooting for today and I’ll root for them too (just not Michigan, Ok?).

Onwards and upwards.

Been to Food Lion and back - early enough that it wasn’t crowded, so yay! I put the first load in the washer before I left and it’s now in the dryer and the jeans are in the washer. FCD has been futzing in his shop and Otis has the run of the shop and the yard.

My mom is being moved to a rehab facility later today and she could be there 2-3 weeks, depending on her progress. Sister is complaining again - I’m not going to engage. She did ask who’s hosting Thanksgiving. Even if everyone was willing to drive all the way down here, my table seats 8 - not a good option for dinner. Plus we talked about going to Indianapolis to see FCD’s remaining aunt. And if we don’t, I’m thinking we’ll have turkey sammiches here and be done with it.

Apart from the laundry, my other chore is cleaning the critter fountain - a 20-minute endeavor at most. So a mostly chill day, till Trevor gets here.

Good morning.

It’s 57°F, dark, and cloudy. It’ll be partly cloudy this afternoon, with a projected high of around 65°F.

Coppertone, sorry for your loss.

Oopsie, it’s good WifeBFF has such an excellent friend. I’m sorry to hear about her health troubles.

I’m fighting off a cold, and I hope I win. By yesterday afternoon, that sort of achy-raw feeling was developing at the back of my sinuses. I should have known something was up when I woke up with overly crusty eyes. It’s not surprising, considering I was surrounded by little germ factories at the kids’ skate party last Saturday.

I’m not sure what the day holds for me. I need to finish rollsucking, and I may scrub the kitchen floor. It’s due. I should get some laundry done, and I still need to get the mower out. So many options, which shall I choose, as they’re all ever so exciting.

At any rate, I need to do something productive because I feel antsy. You all take care of yourselves!

That’s one thing that I’m loving about retirement: shop old people hours when parking is good and stores aren’t crowded.

What are you having tattooed, BooFae?

May your presentation be successful, BBBoo.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP.

I made a pot of the black tea that I bought at the Chinese market the other day. Not bad. Today was the first time since I’ve been in Texas that it was under 70F when I walked Nelson (it was 69F), so I guess autumn has begun.

After KP, I’ll begin a load of towels. Other than that, not much planned for today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Bellingham now has two Trader Joe’s stores. The first one is in a building that was formerly a small grocery store (Red Apple). The new one is in a former Bed Bath & Beyond. I’m really liking the new one. Loads of parking, and the aisles are wider than in any other TJ’s I’ve shopped at over the past (almost) four decades.

Dual TJ’s! Now that’s livin’.

Mornin’ all - 'tis the crack of 11am as I start driveling. I’ve been up since 7, and am at a loss to explain where 4 hours went.

Agree w the chorus above: good on ya’ @Misnomer for being a caregiver for BFFWife.

And sad to hear of coppertone’s ex. :people_hugging:

A week-ish ago while I was in California I got a one sentence text from a long-time pilot pal. It was the url of the obituary for his wife. Which I recognized from the raw url without even needing to click through. His wife was diagnosed with a nasty strain of breast cancer some years ago while my wife was about halfway through her own final 7-year descent. We two helped get them started on their cancer journey and I’ve been checking in on him every few months since. Turns out hers lasted 7 years as well, ending in late August. RIP dear lady; you were an amazing woman cut down far too soon.

Apropos of this thread, yesterday he called to talk, first time in about 4 months. He wanted to dump about her last awful month to the only person he knew who could really grok the experience. Then we talked about his optimism for his future and how that related to my own recovery. He’s fast approaching retirement and the early returns are he’ll be in decent psychological shape soon enough.

We also talked about some of the many slings and arrows of our respective careers and I was strongly reminded how much I don’t miss ruminating about all that crap. I found myself rehearsing / replaying a sterile work argument this morning and I hope I can quickly resubmerge all that misery in the sludge of undisturbed latent memory.

In happier news, I joined GF for nice dinner last night. We hadn’t seen each other in 3 days and it felt like an eternity. An overnight wasn’t practical, but we expect to remedy that tonight or at worst Sunday night.

The weather has proven brighter and dryer than the long range forecasts has predicted. So I’m off to the beach when I’m done driveling.

Happy weekend to all!

The house-washing company (called “Shine” ) was nicely responsive, and by the end of yesterday I had an estimate – which I approved – and a scheduled appointment: they’ll be coming on Friday morning to power wash the siding and clean all of the windows. At first I thought I’d just have them do the outsides of the windows, but it isn’t much more for the whole shebang: exteriors and interiors, plus they’ll clean the screens and detail the tracks and sills. I have one or two windows that might be a little tricky to access inside (the piano is partly in front of one, etc.), but hopefully none will be an actual problem. It’s a small house, one level, with only 10 windows, so getting everything done won’t break the bank. The outside of the house is kind of grungy – even more noticeable to me now that the landscaping has been cleaned up – and I’m looking forward to having both clean siding (for the first time in a few years) and sparkling windows (for the first time since I moved in). It’ll be nice to get a little bit of extra sunlight!

Today’s plans (not in chronological order): prepping for the chorale audition, getting my flu and COVID shots at CVS, starting to build the Lego mineral collection set, watching game 1 of the Yankees/Blue Jays division series (:baseball:), and getting rid of the 4’ aluminum wheelchair ramp I futilely got for Bailey to use instead of the back steps. I offered it to my ex when he came to see her one last time: he wants it for his aging Basset Hound, and will be coming by sometime later today. I’m hoping he’ll also take the indoor steps that Bailey wouldn’t use, and maybe some of her bowls. I was really hoping he’d want one or two of the 4 dog beds, but he said both of his girls tend to sleep on anything except a dog bed. Heh. If I can’t talk him into any of them today, I’ll put them on the curb tomorrow. (But maybe just 3 of them: I’m not sure if I’m ready to get rid of her primary bed – with her name on it – yet.)

My vax appointment is at 12:45, and the CVS is next to both a gas station and a McDonald’s: after I get shot I’ll fill up my car’s tank, then I think I’ll hit the drive-thru for the first time in a while and pick up a late lunch (unless there’s any kind of a line).

Tomorrow’s plans are much less ambitious, and include continuing to prep for the audition, doing my laundry, more Lego building, and posting on FB about the start of Banned Books Week. :books:

Wow!

In WifeBFF’s case the culprit was a high-dose antibiotic. She’s taken several of them in the past, but this was a new one: the staph infection in her heel is still present, so they were trying something different. She only took it for a day or two before symptoms began, and even though she stopped it right away (after a call to the doc) the kidney damage was already done: her symptoms worsened over the next two days, and she went to the ER and got admitted 11 days ago. HusbandBFF called last night, and the plan seems to be that she’ll get one last hospital dialysis treatment today and then will be discharged (to start outpatient sessions 3x/week somewhere). :crossed_fingers: His sister will get here (from WV) on Sunday and stay for a week, then WifeBFF’s oldest friend will arrive (from FL) and stay for another week. After that, we’ll look at her dialysis schedule and determine which sessions I can take her to.

My mom died on November 2nd; next month will be 10 years. She was very into ghosts, etc., and loved Halloween. The runup definitely hits different than it used to – I still mark a bunch of things every October, like the last time I visited her, the last email I got from her, etc. – and I don’t get as into it as I used to, but these days I do feel able to break out some Halloween decor again. She’s partly why I got the Lego Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage: Hocus Pocus was one of her all-time-favorite movies.

Since 2014, in my case. Yep.

I’m a lot better with heights than I used to be, but I think that would have been out of the question for me! :open_mouth:

(I wasn’t able to go all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower when I went to Paris in 2017!)

:crossed_fingers: !

The Yankees.

That sounds awesome! Parking at my TJ’s is always ridiculous, and the aisles aren’t terrible but they can get a bit tricky when the place is busy.

Ugh; I’m so sorry.
