I never got carsick as a kid; in fact, I didn’t know it was a thing until I grew up and heard about it. It’s a good thing because our family was big into long road trips and camping. I didn’t even get seasick on a friend’s fishing boat the first two or three times we went out, but the last time we sailed, there was a wallowing swell, and I got very, very seasick.

I just realized I hadn’t made a fruit tart for many months, so I bought four big peaches while they’re still in season and tomorrow morning they will become an open-faced, rustic peach tart. That tart will probably not last beyond tomorrow evening.

We’re trying to sell our 2018 Honda CR-V through craigslist and nextdoor, and we have to stick close to home in case people call. It has been four days now and we’re getting cabin fever. So tomorrow after tart-making we’ll say screw it and go out to lunch somewhere a bit distant. Maybe that’ll trigger some callers. I want to park it on a nearby busy street with a “For Sale” sign on it, but Mr. brown doesn’t like that idea - he doesn’t like to put his phone number out in public. We had one caller who seemed 100% interested, and he was even about to wire us the money for the car, but overnight he flaked out.

> It’s decent, but a bit tough, which makes kind of okay for burgers, but not so much for anything that needs the beef to be broken up, like the burritos I made last night, which had me stabbing at the meat with a spatula for like 10 straight minutes trying to get all the bigger chunks broken up.

A tip I learned from America’s Test Kitchen: dissolve a half teaspoon of baking soda in a tablespoon of water, and mix this thoroughly with the ground beef. Let it sit for fifteen minutes and then proceed with your cooking. The baking soda tenderizes the meat and helps it stay juicy when cooked. It’s helpful when I buy the bargain ground beef. But the only thing that really works for me is to buy the spendier, fattier Wagyu hamburger from Costco. It’s good stuff, but it sure throws off a lot of fat.

I did a board for the family reunion for a few years with unidentified pics. I titled it \* who do you think they are?\*. Quite a few were identified before my generation became the senior one other than the two youngest of Mom’s sibs and one of her cousins.

Got some more unpacked, set up my dining table and chairs, and got the last kitchen box. Power went out around noon, so I called the office to see if it was general or just me. It was me so they sent maintenance. They got here in 5 minutes and had me up and running in 20. Apparently, I tripped a breaker.

Now I’m going to walk Nelson, then take some boxes to the dumpster and pick up more fruit

Don’t you just love pics of your parents when they were kids? Both of mine were/ are depression babies and didn’t have many of them, so the ones that exist are precious indeed.

I got my TV hooked up this afternoon, but haven’t connected the roku yet, so am watching OTA.

And a good evening to all. Didn’t get an afternoon post in so a long read is in store. Actually ate out at Jersey Mike’s instead of hauling the sammich home, then a couple hours at the gym pretty much filled up my day. It’s already down to 71F so the AC is off and the windows are open and I’ll let nature keep me cool tonight.

A bit grumpy, **shoe** (IIRC) told us on an earlier MMP about the mini-apple pies you could buy, and I bought 3 boxes of Little Debbie pies (8 per box). I’m on the last box now and none of the stores (Kroger, Publix or Wal-Mart) has them in stock. Probably have stopped in 6-8 places near me in the last couple of days, and nada. Just my luck, find a tasty snack without an abundance of calories and they stop stocking it…

And into the long scroll of Moanday…

**Herald** , happy MMP day.

**rocky** , I was at Wal-Mart today, they were clearing out the back-to-school shelves up front and I’d bet the Halloween (or even Xmas, for goodness sakes) stuff will be appearing there this week.

**boo fae** , thanks for the reminder. Sounds like a good time was had.

**FCM** , yeah, I’ve noticed my bill has been climbing too, albeit I don’t track individual cost increases as you do. And you get bons Grandma points for the new bike.

**Cookie** , nice pic and about as close as I want to get to that activity. Happy picture sorting.

**nellie** , best wishes for nephew, I worry about my knees messing up when I least expect them.

That’s magnificent.

**nellie** , I’m sure you would have found an elegant solution to your dream dinner problem.

**Cervaise** , that’s some stopping point. Talk about the lap of luxury.

**VanGo** , glad the idea panned out.

**lucky** , hope the CR-V gets a buyer soon; sounds like a pretty good deal.

**red** , hope the breaker tripping isn’t a foreshawdowing of future problems…

**Coppertone** , it is not bad to worry about your health; it’s worrying excessively which you have figured out, have faith but still monitor it yourself.

I don’t have baby picks of them, but I do have pictures of my Dad and Mom when they were in High School, probably in the 1930’s.

And that’s all I wrote for today. See y’all tomorrow.

Isn’t Washington a blue state? He’s sending troops to the red states first. That’s to help folks get used to seeing armed military on the streets. Go and protest anyhow.

So, not much happened here today. Hubs went to the bank for cash, we need to make a meat run next week. We had been buying hamburger at grocery stores because the processing place sells it in frozen ten lb tubes for 3.80/lb. Dealing with thawing and refreezing was too much bother until Hubs went to Kroger yesterday.

Last time we went to the meat place, their starlink phone was done and they couldn’t take plastic. We don’t want to fill up a cart and have to leave it because we didn’t have another way to pay.

Not much happened here today. I made Hubs a cheese and pickle tray for lunch and then we enjoyed the shrimp scampi for dinner. I stitched. Hubs took the bin to the road. I did my weekly ironing, changed the sheets and then stitched more.

I’m angry at myself for not planning better, I should have started at the center of my piece and worked out evenly, but nooooo, that would take too much counting so I just worked out until I found the corner and went from there. Now I’m dragging thread over finished stitching and dulling the shine.

Smarter people than me always say to start from the center and work out but do I listen to them? No, I do not. And then I get to this part and spend hours bitching myself out.

It’s been nice and cool so the windows have been open all day. I moved my lemon tree to a different part of the yard so it can get more sun, it is only getting 8 hours a day now and the sun isn’t as intense as it is in Phx. I’m going to be sad when I have to bring it back inside, it has grown so well this summer.

GG is now sitting on the loveseat and yelling at me. This means he wants some brushing and adoration. Cats before internet, TTYL

We are camping, came last night and will go back tomorrow. Unfortunately it looks like rain today but fortunately not yet.

A fox got into our garage as we went to wash dishes. My city kid kids have never run into things like that before.

It’s a bit chilly, about 23° RoW but without the sun and a little breeze is not as nice as it sounds.

We used to do more camping when the kids were younger but as their weekends got taken over with activities then the frequency dropped off.

When we moved here, we gave away a lot of stuff so we had to buy a new tent, table, camp chairs and all. My wife really likes it so we’ll do more next year.

@Cervaise That’s too bad about your child. My son gets carsick but not to the extent of throwing up. He also is really into sailing, but because he’s doing it then he doesn’t get sick.

What a fantastic place to stay!!

I appreciate that. I’m nonviolent but could always get booked for being a general nuisance.

I’ll spoiler this response to JtC since she spoiled hers:

He is?? I must be missing something. Trump is sending troops to blue places first, isn’t he? DC (blue), Chicago (blue), and probably Seattle (blue). Illinois has a governor who said months ago that if Trump wanted to go after immigrants in Illinois, he’d “have to go through me first.” And our governor used to be the AG and sued the Trump administration something like 98 times, winning 97 of them. This is purely about revenge and control. I’d say what I think about this, but it’d probably burn right through the blur.

I’ve got a pic of my dad, when he was basically a kid, pushing me in a stroller. Damn, I looked a lot like him when he was 25, when I was 25. That’s a difficult sentence to put together, but I hope you get my meaning. The picture looks like I was taking a kid for a walk about 30 years ago.

I will never forget when I was around 27 years old and walking through a supermarket, and I spied my mother at the end of an aisle. I smiled, raised my hand and waved. She smiled and waved back in complete synchronization with me!

Because it _was_ me. I was seeing my reflection in a mirror at the end of the aisle.

That’ll ruin your day in a hurry!

In my defense, I was uncharacteristically wearing my hair in a style much closer to how she wore hers. Still. Ugh.

**Cervaise** : Wow. Just wow. How old is the building, do you know?

So, we had quite a weekend. Saturday, we went about halfway across the state for a meeting about The Bill. Izzy went with us, of course. She and I made signs beforehand: the meeting was at a school, so we needed to put up signs at the parking lot entrance and the school entrance to let people know they were in the right place. Then we drove (and drove) with plenty of time for music and talk. At the meeting, I was the greeter, as usual, getting people’s contact info and handing out water bottles. Izzy helped Mr. Rilch with setting up the PA system.

The meeting itself seemed to be a learning experience for her. Free speech, yeah! And these things always start with the Pledge of Allegiance. (I choose not to say “under God”. I know the history of that phrase.) Izzy didn’t say the Pledge, but she did stand up, with both hands at her sides. And afterwards, Mr. Rilch was assuring her, we don’t _worship_ the flag; we show respect to it, because of what it stands for, which is right there in the Pledge, after all. Anyway, Mr. Rilch spoke well, as always, and a few people from the audience spoke when the mike was handed to them.

Then on Sunday, Izzy wanted me to take her to Target and Michael’s for more school stuff. This is another thing that’s changing. In L.A., I drove all over the place, because I was a freelancer and I had to. But since we’ve been living here, or in another more accurate sense, since quarantine, my range has gotten a lot smaller. I’ve been at risk of turning into one of my own grandmothers. One never learned to drive; the other did, late in life, but any place further than about two towns over was “too far! I don’t know how to get there!” As I told Izzy, I’m glad I was obligated to go so far afield, to the closest Michael’s, because I can’t cripple myself like that.

And tonight, we made a big salad and dressing from scratch! And watched another episode of Stranger Things, after which Izzy had to turn in. Quite honestly, I think this early-school-even-earlier-bus-pickup setup is farrago. But there’s no changing it…

Yeah, and? Did he leave on his own, or did you have to chase him away? How did the kids react?

Back when I was about 27, I was getting ready to go out for the evening, giving myself the once-over in the mirror. My grandmother was looking back at me… OK, my grandmother but 40 years younger. Still, it was freaky.
