You may want to get the medical types to check you out if you don’t begin to get your energy back soon **VanGo**.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Mostly the Sunday chores going on today.

The glitter experiment bombed last evening, so I’m going to try it another way. Oh, well, another educational opportunity. 😛

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Woke at 6:30am so a bit sleepy, but seemingly in possession of all my wits (such as they are). Another nice morning but a 50-50 chance of rain this afternoon. Thinking about going out to Breakfast instead of Dinner, been quite awhile since I’ve done that, we’ll see if I have any ambition this early. Rest of the day is pretty much open, may head off to the gym, might do some shopping, we’ll just have to see.

**Hippie** , not a quilt person, but I can recognize good stuff when I see it and there are some very nice quilts in that thread. Looking forward to seeing yours up there next year.

**Lucky** , used to use a product called Lime-Away when I worked in a restaurant, we had to protect ourselves from that, too…take care.

**Boo fae** , sounds like a real fun day and hopefully the contentious meetings are done with for awhile and you can get back to the boring and tedious meetings…oh, and

> [@scareyfaerie](#):

I had to look up Paddyoke…so, it’s basically karaoke as done by Irishmen…frankly, that sounds a bit frightening…

**FCM** , yeah on getting rid of the mouse.

**shoe** , hope the GM isn’t too much of a pain, and that your popsicles arrive soon.

**VanGo** , is it just from pressure from the job (or life), or if you can’t account for it, you might want to see a medical person; couldn’t hurt.

OK, it’s all the way to 7:30am and I’ve internettin’ to do. Take care all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual cleaning, and perhaps a nap.
Spot is alternating lying on his adoption blanket(embroidered sentiment “All I need are naps and love”, no mention of cheese and bananas.), looking out at the great outdoors, and running around like a manic, screaming something about The Invisible Mole People have infiltrated the HVAC closet.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 52F and sunny outside. The expected high is 81F and it’ll be sunny all day.

**boofae** , I’m exhausted reading that. I hate meetings with a passion, but I hate meetings where I have to facilitate or officiate even more. I hope this upcoming week is better. Your day/night out with girls sounds fun!

Second or third the thought that maybe you should see a doc, **Van Gogh.**

I’m glad you caught the invader, **FCM** and I hope there he/she didn’t have friends or family there.

I was very productive yesterday. I weed-whacked and edged the lawn, weeded various garden areas, mowed the lawn, watered all my posies, cleaned up more gunk for the giant juniper tree the dumb\*ss neighbors have got all the weeds out of the driveway section cracks, and hosed down the back patio. I also completed a few minor indoor chores. I need to get foam backing to putting in those segment cracks and put caulking in there, but just never get around to it.

I am debating treating myself to a pedicure today and then running to the nursery to pick up a large planter for my Japanese maple. Right now, it has green leaves but will be colorful in the fall. Here’s a link to a specimen. Mine is not nearly that big. [Acer x Pseudosieboldianum 'Wabi sabi' - Iseli Nursery](https://www.iselinursery.com/garden-maples/acer-x-pseudosieboldianum-wabi-sabi/)

I repotted a small azalea my son gave me a couple of months ago and need to pick up some summer foliage such as lobelia and other trailing plants. Maybe a couple of marigolds too. Not sure yet.

I also need to do laundry. I need to wash the bedding (both mine and the guest bed), towels, and clothing. I am not wearing “office” clothes for my trip to Wenatchee and Yakima this week, especially since I am having cart around Varidesks.

Oooh, I need to wash my Jeep too. It’s been a minute. And, although it’s not really super dirty, there is some road dust.

Right then! Onward with the day.

When our daughter graduated with her Masters from SAIC, her first job was at NDSU in Fargo. She lasted 2 years in that cold, barren place with very little culture/social. She returned to Chicago where she has lived very happily ever since. Perhaps Fargo has improved, it’s been 11 years since she left. Although it’s still in North Dakota, enough said.

> She’s expressed several times that she wishes she’d just die - not suicidal, just tired and missing her husband. So sad and we’re at a loss.

This is very common, particularly for women of a certain generation who were married for 50+ years. Here are 3 examples.
My Dad passed in August 2014 at 89. One of either my brother, my sister or me and sometimes Hubs visited Mom almost every single day and she would often say she was lonely, she missed Dad so very much and yes, she would say she just wanted to die. She passed in December 2015 at 89 so 16 months later. They were married for 62 years 10 months.
FIL passed in October 2010 at 85. MIL was heartbroken. She so wanted to have a 60 year anniversary; they were married for 59 years 8 months. She was a VERY social person but after FIL passed, she really wouldn’t do anything. She stopped going to the clubhouse in her condo association or visiting friends. She was supposed to go to visit Hubs’ Sis’s family in VA for Thanksgiving but she wouldn’t get on the plane. She was supposed to come to the Mitten for Christmas and stay with Hubs’ other Sis but she was very morose, depressed and said she wasn’t going to come. Hubs told his Sis to tell his Mom that if she didn’t buy a ticket and come, that he would fly down and pick her up and carry her to the plane and put her on it. So then she bought a ticket. She had COPD and was having trouble once she was in the Mitten so they ended up doing surgery in early Feb 2011. She never woke up from the surgery and passed one day before their 60th at 83 so she got to be reunited with her husband for their 60th. She passed 4 months after FIL.
The person who took the cake was my baby sister’s MIL. Her FIL passed in September either 2007, 2008 or possibly 2009. Her MIL was so depressed that she passed in October so barely 30 days later. I don’t know exactly how old they were or how long they were married but I believe they were in their late 70’s/early 80’s and had been married for 50+ years.

The 49th anniversary of the day I met Hubs was last week. We married 5+ years later.

She loves FCD and likely you and her grands and great-grands but none of you are FIL. It seems like she was married more than 70+ years and her person was FIL. Maybe FCD needs to do like Hubs was going to do to his Mom and go pick her up, put her in the car and bring her over. But there’s no guarantee that will lessen her depression. My Mom didn’t get over Dad’s passing for 16 months; she asked that her headstone say “E\_\_\_\_\_ is my gift from God”; Dad’s headstone says “I\_\_\_\_ is the love of my life”. I’m very sorry that this sounds kind of a downer but just keeping it real.

The rain here was very steady and not at all hard, barely medium and the grass has greened up quite a bit and the vegetable garden is responding very nicely. I just don’t understand why my day lillies haven’t bloomed when many others in the neighborhood have; guess I just need to be patient.

Great job by the young ladies!

The 3 of us went to brunch this morning. Poor Bella was put in her crate. But I had salmon toast and brought home some of the salmon for her. Then daughter & I went to an art gallery that was supposed to have an outdoor market in a garden area. Unfortunately they were spooked by the weather forecast and decided to cancel but didn’t put it on the web yesterday. We still had a nice visit with the gallery owner and I bought a piece of pottery. Then we tried to go to a specific candy store in the vicinity but the sign on the door said CLOSED FOR THE SUMMER. Shucks. Stopped at the BowWow Baketique and Bella made out with a beef stick and a squirrel shaped cookie from me but she won’t be too happy to find out that her Mom bought some dog shampoo. Then went to the cemetary to visit Mom, Dad, Babcia, Dziadzia, my godmother/aunt and uncle and plant a marigold for Mom. Came home, made lunch and helped daughter get the car packed then the 4 of us went to the Kroger gas station where we got a dollar off per gallon so $2.39 so we saved $27 on gas for the 3 cars. Then hugs and daughter and Bella were off to Chicago.

Morning, all! 😃 I haven’t visited the Dope since June 7…I don’t remember the last time I skipped two whole weeks (and then some)! I’m not caught up at all, but I’ve skimmed the previous posts from this morning.

This month got a little nuts…

I’m the membership chair for my local NAACP branch, and we had a table/tent at events on 6/3, 6/10, and 6/17. Long days but good days, and we got super lucky and had great weather every time. But they are actually the biggest reason why I stopped posting for a while: we collected names and email addresses for our newsletter at each event, and most of my spare time has been spent adding folks to our Constant Contact mailing list and following up with them individually (plus I now “own” our mailing lists, and they’ve needed some love; that’s been more time-consuming than I would have guessed). I’ll be sending the last of the “thanks for stopping by” emails after I finish this post.

Also: I went to the office one day to meet a new colleague, I drove to Baltimore on Father’s Day for lunch with my dad and bro, and I was an election officer this past Tuesday (a 16-hour day). And I had a few medical appointments sprinkled in there: a pap smear, a bariatric office follow-up, and a blood draw. Oh, and Bailey had her teeth cleaned on Thursday morning: happily for both of us (and my wallet), she didn’t need any extractions! 🎉

The biggest thing that happened, though, is that I lost another uncle. 😢 We lost my dad’s big brother in March; I drove up to NJ for his funeral in late April. This time it’s my mom’s brother – her only sibling, who was also my godfather. He was 81. On 6/13 I got a text from my cousin that he was in the ICU and it wasn’t looking good…three days later they started hospice care, and he died that night. I wasn’t close to my dad’s brother, who had significant psychological issues his entire life: that wasn’t really a personal loss, I was just sad for my dad and his remaining siblings. This one, though, stings. I loved this uncle, and am much closer to the cousins on this side of the family. I am heartbroken for them and my aunt. And, of course, his passing stirs up thoughts/memories of my mom’s death (almost 8 years ago).

Anyway, my uncle’s service is on Thursday; I’ll be driving up to NJ (again) on Wednesday. I’m staying up there through Monday, and will drive back home on the holiday. I want to spend some time with everyone, and see if I can help at all – either with my aunt, or more likely with cleaning out their house (which needs to be sold). I’m also going to try to see my mom’s best friend at some point while I’m up there: her husband is 86 and in rehab after a bout of pneumonia (he also has cancer that recently metastasized), and I’d like to visit them if I can. I expect to have large chunks of time with nothing to do, though, so I’m hoping to post in the next MMP a little more regularly.

> She’s expressed several times that she wishes she’d just die - not suicidal, just tired and missing her husband.

My aunt has expressed this same sentiment. She’s 82, was married to my uncle for almost 58 years (their anniversary is in August), and hasn’t been in the best of health to begin with. Quite frankly, I won’t be surprised if we lose her before the end of the year. 😟

**FCD** suggested we set another trap, just in case. But the ex-mouse has been dispatched to the garbage can.

Forgot to mention earlier, but some of those quilts are amazing! Some are not to my taste, but I can appreciate the work that went into them, I think the big red flower is my fave.

Anyway, back from erranding. My car has gas, FIL’s flag is finally in a display case, and some groceries have been procured. And before I went, I put a final coat of Cetol on the nav light holders. So all that is done. And I emptied the dishwasher and cleaned the critter fountain - go me!! Last on my list is making a lasagna to share with MIL. I’ll do that later so we can have some for supper.

**FCD** still isn’t feeling well - he was crashed in his recliner when I got home. And he’s got jury duty starting tomorrow - that could be interesting. Meanwhile, I can chill a bit.

We shall see about the former. The woman just … micromanages. Last time she was around, she fussed at me directly, because I put a _check mark, instead of a dot_ next to the items on a partial order that had already been taken up to the warmer while I finished the rest.

I complied, and the next time _nobody saw the little dot_ and minor chaos briefly ensued.

There aren’t enough 🙄 I actually heard her telling my manager, “Well that’s not how we do it at X location!” and my manager countered with, “Well, we do things a little differently here” and realized 1a.) they were talking about me, and 2b.) my manager was sticking up for me _to HER BOSS_ and yeah, I lurve this place.

As to the latter … YAY! 🥳 They’re in the freezer already.
I forgot - having browsed many product options - that I ultimately chose icy treats in little cups/bowls, rather than pop-on-a-stick style, or the squeeze-tube style. So these will require a spoon.

… OMG I HAVE A LATTE IN THE FRIDGE my day has improved. Thanks, **Past Shoe** for buying me a coffee!

I was at 170 to read this morning. Right now I’m down to 142 to read. Although I’d rather have my daughter and pup here than read the MMP 😜

Lectored at mass; wore a dress with navy, aqua and white pattern with a navy blazer along with the shoes I wore to my daughter’s wedding 12 years ago, they barely fit (probably from my hiking). Walked 1.9 miles in the neighborhood with a friend. Caught up to post 194 so just 116 to go to catch up. Now I need to cut the lawn, go Krogering and go workout.

Wow. WOWWWWW. { _raises eyebrows_ } I see how it is.

😉

* * *

Holy socks, Batman, it is _hyoooooomid_ out there! It’s a lovely overcast light, so I wanted to sit outside with one of my hoops, but after a few minutes … nope.

Thoughts’n’prayers for **Coolio** my window A/C; the poor bastard isn’t gettin’ a break for a while.

The humidity is due to tunder-boomies looming in the forecast. Considering most of our business lately has been folks heading to the beach (for a picnic) or from the beach (with a sunburn & zero desire to cook) I imagine we’ll be a bit quieter today.

… or maybe not. Sometimes we’re absolutely slammed & I find out later there was a game, or concert, in the area.

* * *

Speaking of sunburns, on a side note, it’s getting harder not to laugh at the human-shaped lobsters pulling up to the drive-thru window.

Bro, it’s called “sunscreen” and they have many varieties at Wal-Mart and probably local gas stations. You should try it!

Yeesh. I had a manager who sent out a 3 page memo on why pens had to go back into pen cups a certain way. Micromanagers are the worst.

Today I will be laying around, reading and praying my head stops hurting. Tomorrow I have another back procedure. They’re obnoxious to get, but they really help. So pending new treatment options, I’ll be doing this a few times a year from now on.

The exterior walls are cedar shingles over OSB or plywood (probably OSB on the newer wall), and it was impossible to find studs. I did use the ‘deep setting’ on the stud-finder. No joy. The mounting screws are long and thin. The pilot holes were ⅛ inch, and the next sized drill bit would have been a little too big to give a ‘bite’ to the entire thread diameter. My Ocean Kayak Drifter weighs 56 pounds by the book; only it also has a rudder system, and I’m likely to store it at least part of the year with the seat on. Call it 60 pounds. I’m _barely_ convinced the rack will support the 'yak. I’m more concerned about lateral stability. It’s a heavy boat for one person in a somewhat confined space, and some dragging on one of the racks is inevitable. I told 'Yakwife that it will probably be a two-person job so we don’t tear the racks off of the wall.

Speaking of 'Yakwife, she’s been out in the catio sweeping and cleaning up debris. She also blew off the deck. I’m not painting the deck today, and it will have to be blown off again before I do; but it’s a start.

So what, exactly, is the proper way to put pens into the pen cup?

I’m feeling better, less tired. Still think I may nap a bit this afternoon. I like napping.

When I was a kid I tried to get out of naptime. Now I wish I had them all back.

AGREED! I mowed both the front and the back yards. Had to come in twice to get hydrated. Whew, so freaking humid. Mowing was the easiest since I’ve taken over this task but the humidity was killer. Need to go take a shower now.

I’ve tried to block this from my mind but I think it’s point up, with the cap on. 🙄
