Today I did some sunbathing, erranding, Targeting, and some of the last (I hope) swapping of stuff between home and storage. And got a simple late lunch.

Late afternoon one of my/our pilot pals came up and we three went for nice Italian dinner after being turned away at a couple of other new places we wanted to try that had 2+ hour waits at 7pm.

So we fell back to a known old standby, where we got a table immediately. Between late lunch today and plenty of drinkin’ yesterday, I skipped the wine tonight and had a wonderful octopus w olives and capers appetizer that was perfectly sized as my entree. Lotta good yakking, no stony silences, and no mutual incomprehension. The other guys took half their meals home, and they’re both big guys who eat hearty. This place isn’t cheap, but they don’t stint on the quantity either.

I had hoped to get some packing done during the day, but have plenty of time tomorrow. The checklist is ready to go, so it’s just a matter of running down the list.

Right now sleep is the more urgent need.

G’night all.

Happy birthday Doggio!!! I hope your drinks were perfect and nobody hit you on the head with heavy bags.

Neat! I woke up to snow on the ground and covering trees and cars as well. According to my rain gauge, we got .4 inch of magical sky water which I count as a win.

A year or so back, I was having problems opening a childproof MJ vape cart and noticed the kid across the street was out on his bike. I asked him to come over and open it for me and he said “Yes, I will open it for you. Mom says I should always help old people if they need it.” The only reason I didn’t shove him off the porch was because he still had my cart in his hand.

Back when the trilobites swam the seas there were stores that sold porn and swinging magazines. Hubs put a personal ad in one such magazine. I just happened to buy a copy and wrote him a snail mail letter. He wrote me a snail mail letter back. We both agreed that we weren’t interested in any sort of relationship, we just wanted to make whoopy a couple of times a week with someone who didn’t have AIDS.

After getting bloodwork at the health department and waiting for the results, we made whoopy on our first “date” (AIDS scared the floozy out of me, but I still liked sex).

We thought that night had been fun, but agreed that we didn’t want a long term relationship. That was 36 years ago.

Happy birthday, **doggio**!

I’m laying in bed now, listening to four fourteen year old girls belt out show tunes at the top of their lungs. Today I question my life choices, especially those leading me to say yes to an impromptu slumber party. But I’m so happy when she’s happy. Overlyboy is at work and the husband unit is playing video games.

Tomorrow we’re going to Uranus, Missouri wherein resides Uranus Fudge Factory. I don’t remember who made that decision but I will always support a trip to eat chocolate. And there are caves along the way where we can hike so it’s sure to be an adventure.

It has been a weirdly social weekend, which explains why I’m in bed at 9 on a Saturday. I got completely peopled out.

🤣 🤣 🤣

That is one of the tamer stories of my well-spent youth!!!

(I probably should mention that we are child free by choice.)

BTW, I keep forgetting to mention this to you…you said something about wanting to learn how to knit. I would bring that up while you are talking to your church lady friends. I know how church ladies work, you would have more yard and knitting needles and lessons than you know what to do with in less than a week.

So, in other news, Hub’s desktop flamed out today and he can’t game. He pulled out the 7 year old gaming laptop and updated it but it doesn’t have the umpf to run Diablo 4 or his other games. I have a gaming computer that I use for Dopeing and watching/listening to Netflix while stitching. I’ve suggested he swap the laptop for my tower, but that’s too much bother so he’s going to go through cold turkey gaming withdrawal.

Despite the magical sky water, this really hasn’t been the best week for me.

Mr. L and I are coming up on 45 years together (43 years married), so we just missed the AIDS era. We’ve carefully edited the dating stories we told our kids.

It kind of sounds to me like you’ve done all you can to help with the computer problem and you’re free to go on your merry way. Easier said than done, of course (I say as I grit my teeth to keep from saying anything to the man fussing about Plex failing to record because the disk dedicated to it filled up again - even though we agreed to buy a new one two months ago in order to fix the problem).

Our bountiful snowfall melted down to about a quarter of an inch of water. Not exactly a good soaking, but we’ll take it. I won’t have to water anything this week!

@Spice_Weasel , I’m glad the shower went okay! One technique I learned to deal with people who pointedly told me all about their superior parenting techniques was to smile and congratulate them without discussing my kids at all. They’d tell me all about how they effortlessly toilet trained their eighteen-month-old and I’d say, “how nice,” and wander away with my three-year-old in Pull-ups.

@overlyverbose , I get wistful about those slumber party days, but I definitely know what you mean. It’s a lot easier to be sentimental from a distance of more than a decade!

Well, heck.
I was busy all day and missed 60 damn posts. Sorry to jump ahead, but I have a niece baby update.

I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout birthin’ no babies, but this is what NCBro told me:
Her labor was slow and they decided to send her home with medication to try to hold off heavy labor for the time being.

Baby is fine, but it’ll probably be a few more days. Which means there about zero chance that NCBro and SIL are coming here at all. The other nieces are in wait-and-see mode in case they need to be there for their sister. And ChiBro is still coming, but may postpone a few days if nobody else comes.

**Mrs W** and I have decided that we’re keeping our hotel reservations and are going to the U2 concert even if nobody else does. NCBro has the hockey tickets and we’ll tell him he can go ahead and sell them if he can. (He’ll probably make a profit.) so it’ll be a fun weekend, even if it’s just a fun weekend for two.

I went to bed feeling comfortably sleepy but am now wide awake due to noises upstairs. No, it doesn’t seem to be another argument. For the past three days there have been these weird thumping noises up there. Step-step-step THUMP, step-step-step-step THUMP. This is the first night I’ve heard it. I can’t figure out what the heck it is. It’s not rhythmic, and it’s not in the same place. The thumps sound like a big guy in Doc Martens is jumping off a chair or something.

They’re pleasant fellows but odd. One drives a PT Cruiser with strange decorations on it. Their first year here, they’d vacuum at 1 a.m. and play very loud music. (Quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 a.m…) I shouldn’t say “they,” as it was one guy in his fifties and a young guy back then. They had the occasional screaming match, including one where one of them screamed, “Go ahead and kill yourself, then! I’m sick of it!” Now the young guy has been replaced by another fifty-something guy. Still the rare screaming match, and now this thumping.

I wish I knew what it was. On second thought, no, I don’t.

One of the best ways I’ve found to deal with that is what I call “dot lights” … those battery operated LEDs in a push-button housing that you can stick pretty much wherever.

Very handy for badly-lit areas without wiring.

Had a variation on this one tonight. A nice couple pulled up and said something along the lines of how they weren’t sure if their pizza was ready yet, they’d driven from G.R. and maybe didn’t have the timing right, etc.

I tossed off a comment like, “Aw, you came all the way from G.R. for our pizza?” and they said, no, they were locals. They’d just flew back from Miami (maybe you passed each other on the streets @LSLGuy !) and were on their way home.

Literally the first thing they did upon returning, before they unpacked or even drove home … was get a Scribs pizza.

Things like that give me a bit of pride that a similar job at a crap chain would never provide.

Reminds me of when I had to medicate Pretzel about a year ago. Oral drops that you squeeze into their mouth.

First time was easy-peasy; this had never happened before so she didn’t expect it.

Second time was a bit more challenging.

After that, I had less than a half-second; had to fully choreograph the whole thing mentally in advance (“open door with right hand; lift hideaway with left hand…”) but don’t tell me snakes don’t learn.

And you’re not even gonna tell _US_?!? Pffft.

* * *

Have some frozen quiche thingies baking in the oven, plus one of those “Uncrustable” thingies for dessert to satisfy my inner 7-year-old.

Ratties got dinner (dried corn, brown rice, and bran flakes) and Monkey got to chase down a buncha treats.
Now he’s getting gooshy-food (chicken and salmon, tonight) because he’s such a sweet and handsome boy, yes he is.

Oh, the **Oven Master** with the fabbo restaurant experience brought a Crock Pot with shredded meat for Italian beef sandwiches. Not being much for peppers, I simply helped myself to some plain beef … and promptly went back for seconds. Yum!

Plus, the package from my friend who made me those kerchiefs finally arrived … and one of them has SPAM themed fabric! What a hoot.
It goes perfectly with the new purse she made me … also featuring SPAM!
The inside is lined with a beautiful marbled fabric, and - between you and me and the lampost - I would have much preferred that on the outside, and save the joke for the hidden inside.
But it’s still a lovingly crafted handmade gift (with pockets!) and I love it all the same.

I believe that’s why some people eat the same food day after day. I can’t even do that for breakfast. I hope you’ve recovered from your labors.

And more than Switzerland?! Not good at all. I already have snowdrops and crocuses blooming and the hyacinths in the warm spot are starting to come up.

I think I may have to place an order with [Uranus Fudge Factory](https://www.uranusgeneralstore.com/uranus-fudge/). Might have to wait until my dad is feeling better - he might hurt himself laughing.

Weather’s not quite as warm as yesterday and the weather people say we’re going to get a drizzle, so need to get motivated and go for a walk.

Didn’t get around to the paperwork yesterday - didn’t get lunch until 5pm, and then it was time for a movie. Maybe today will be more productive. 🤣

I once went on a blind date that involved seeing “Star Trek VI”. The movie being dull wasn’t the major reason that date didn’t work (we’d agreed on that movie, wasn’t his fault or mine it left a bit to be desired), it was the guy. He wasn’t scary or anything, just not a good fit.

Eons ago, I went on my one and only blind double date. We saw _The Omen_. 😮 I never saw the other 3 folks ever again. No big loss, either…

I think she’s probably even happier to be away from her sister. Barbara is a kind person, but OMG, does that woman talk!!! And she want to do for everyone - I guess that’s why she became a nurse - to care for others. Still, she can be overwhelming.

I’m not a football person, and I’m not sure **FCD** is interested in the teams this year, so it may or may not be on our TV. Whatevs… I’ll likely be knitting regardless of what’s on.

> [@JaneDoe42](#):

Such a contrast - **FCD** plays 2 games on his laptop - Solitaire and a pool game. He’ll play both for hours while the TV is on - probably because neither one requires a lot of concentration. There’s something to be said for mindless entertainment.

Higgs is due this week, and honestly, the worst part is getting her in the car. She _hates_ going anywhere in the car.

> the leash/harness thing they do with toddlers…

This brought back a shudder-full memory from our recent cruise. There was a woman with a 4-y/o(?) in said harness. Either he was the worst brat in the universe, or he’s on the spectrum and she was doing what she could. It wasn’t the harness - it was the screaming tantrums! We mostly encountered them in the buffet, but we heard the boy in the airport the day we left. Thankfully, they weren’t on our flight.

Even recognizing that it’s not necessarily bad parenting, it’s still difficult to be understanding when the shrieking causes your ears to bleed. And if he was just a brat, I do pity his teachers.

I crashed early last night and forgot to take my meds, dammit. But I took them this morning, so I should survive. It was the last dose from my old, about-to-fall-apart pill holder. I bought a new one to hold 4 weeks of meds, which is great… except that it’s _waaaaaaay_ too big to fit where I kept the old one. At the moment, it’s on my dresser, but I need to find a place for it in the bathroom like the old one. Except there is no place. OMG, why do I have to deal with such crises??? _\< pose of woe and anguish \>_

It rained overnight and more is promised thru Tuesday. I foresee a lot of knitting. I also foresee some arguments with **FCD**. His back is still bothering him after his fall in Falklands, and all our airport adventures, and the long-ass drive to and from Indy. I told him he’s not to do anything strenuous until March. He needs to rest his back. Shall we start a pool for when he overdoes it again?

The other thing with him that I absolutely don’t understand involves the beds in the basement. There are 2 twins that will be for the grands once Tobias graduates from his crib and Daughter decides how their room will be set up. Plus there’s the queen bed that was in MIL’s guest room in FL - I wish I knew someone who wants it. It’s a decent set and I hate to throw it in the dump. I’ll try an ad on a local site.

ANYWAY, the fact that those beds are down there makes **FCD** crazy. Bear in mind he almost never goes downstairs. And they’re out of the way - at most, they’re blocking 2 outlets, but when we finished the basement, we put in a butt-ton of outlets, so that’s not a problem. yet every so often, he broaches the topic of wrapping them all in plastic and storing them in one of the outside sheds. WHY?? Plus, there’s absolutely not enough room in either shed for 3 mattress sets.

I keep pointing this out every time he raises the topic, and he moves on till the next time.

So, chillage today. That’s the plan.

Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 70 with rain to begin around noonish and lastin’ the rest of the day and into tomorrow. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I have Verger duty. After that, several others and myself will get the place all set up for Lent, as it’s that time of year startin’ Wednesday. So, we move all the bright shiny brass stuff out and replace it with all the wooden solemn type stuff. Then it will be back to da cave hopefully before the big rain sets in. We shall even make a proper sup of grilled poke chops, scalloped N.O.T., peas 'n carrots, and rolls, just cause.

Although grilled cheese and toasted cheese sammiches are both somewhat crunchy, when I make a toasted cheese sammich, it’s really crunchy, as I like really crunchy toast. Plus a toasted cheese sammich is less buttery than a grilled cheese sammich. I use a good amount of butter when I make a grilled cheese. It’s how I roll.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

While reading this sentence I had to think a little bit about that juxtaposition.

First time through I was imagining Monkey happilly chasing (and eatlng) runaway well fed ratties. Followed by **Shoe** having a meltdown as her breeding program takes a 3 month setback.

I eventually figured out what you meant, but it was scary there for a minute.

This. Your explanation makes complete sense. A work you _want_ to go to is extremely valuable psychologically. As long as you can afford to go to it.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s supposed to rain today. The bed is 50% made. Not because I’m lazy, but because _somebody_ feels the need to have a deathmatch with the sheets every time I start moving them around. But I shall clean, nap, then shake it off, and watch the Super Handegg Match tonight.

You don’t. At least you don’t have to listen to the bed frame rhythmically bang the wall as the knock boots at 0900 on The Lord’s Day.

Well the worst part is picking Spot up, he hates that. And being put in a carrier. And car rides. And new people. I may just clonk him with a rubber mallet, and save the agrievation.

Pretty much the plot of a _Tom and Jerry_ cartoon, with fewer mallets.

I just realized I’m missing a blanket - a multicolored thing my mom crocheted. It pretty much lived on the back of my papazan, but I also have another lap blanket, and an oversized cardigan I wear as an ersatz bathrob/Snuggie blanket floating around there.

Still, how does one _lose_ a whole-ass blanket?

… and yes, **FCM,** I checked _both_ shoulders!

Mornin’ all! About 2 hours after sunrise as I start typing. I’ve been up, sheveled, out for a vexing but successful errand, and now home caffinatin’ & about to eat. NWS sez it’s 74/23 on the way to 80/26. Partly cloudy and we’ve had our morning sprinkle. Just enough to spot all the cars. One drawback to my present digs is that the car parks outdoors in an open driveway. I’m not concerned for its safety, but I’ve always had a covered carport or indoor parking structure before. Which keeps the paint in better shape and makes keeping it presentably clean a lot easier too.

Among my erranding yesterday I bought a rather elaborate beach chair at Target. It’s got a built-in sunshade that I hope will work enough that I can see my screen to Dope or administrate or whatever at the beach. I inspected the thing carefully at the store and believed it was in good shape. Until I got it home and found out one last part I hadn’t noticed was bent and unusable. A part key to the sunshade feature which is why I picked that model. Crap.

Anyhow, I zipped out this morning to return it first thing and maybe get another one, but my recollection was they only had a couple in stock. Turns out they had one more, and it was undamaged. Of course it had had all the tags ripped off, so paying for it with no UPC proved slightly challenging. But in the end – Success!

Breakfast and packing next for me. Uber shows up around 1pm to whisk me off for the week. When you buy the upgraded train tickets like I did, they include Ubers at both ends, at least for a reasonable radius around the stations. Which offsets a decent fraction of the upgraded train fare. So big comfy seat _and_ “free” cocktails for not much incremental cost.

As to y’all from the last day-ish that I’ve managed to read in shifts, but mostly on my phone, so not able to properly acknowledge. …

> [@FairyChatMom](#):
>
> Shall we start a pool for when he overdoes it again?

I’ll take midday today = Sunday.

**FCM** ya gotta wonder what’s up with **FCD** and the beds. Is he maybe thinking that if he doesn’t move them soon they’ll never be movable because he’s getting more infirm? A “now or never” issue IOW? Forgetting of course that he’s not the only person on Earth available to move them.

I do know I’ve certainly gotten “stuck” a time or three over the years with something irrelevant that somehow becomes a sore thumb in my mental to-do list. Clearing that out of your (well my) mind can be difficult even after acknowledging that the [whatever] itself is dumb or useless or unnecessary.

**carnut** sorry to hear the impending bebeh is blowing up the family visit. At least they’re all not just arriving at your house and suddenly preoccupied and trying to go back home. I saw a U2 concert a few years ago; you’re in for a real treat.

I’ve posted this before but your purse reminds me of a now deceased blog called “You knit what!?!” dedicated to pix and incredulous descriptions of amazingly stupid or ugly knit items. My late wife was a crazy-good knitter and _loved_ that blog. We got a lot of laughs out of it.

I recall a large open-top purse / beach bag thing with two giant sunny-side up eggs as the motif. Yep, two 12-14" overlapping knit eggs for each side of the bag. And a matching tam. Really.

**Spicy** congrats on not only surviving but even enjoying (much of) the baby shower and in-law family experience.
