Kitchen food type cooking people … a little help?

I had to get a new cutting board so I ordered this set of three from Amazon. They come with two free garlic peelers and I’m not sure what that means. Here’s the thing, two of the boards have these little rough spots on them at the end (exhibit A) that I thought was the peeler thing; but the set also came with these two little rubber tubes with a rough interior (exhibit B) that seem to be two free things, so now I’m assuming _they_ are the garlic peelers?

What do I have a hold of here?

Those are the garlic peelers. I own one and am not really impressed.

I’m not sure what the rough patch on your cutting board is for…grating hard cheese maybe?

Winter?? WaWa (our local convenience chain) just sent out an email that they’ve got pumpkin spice something or other on sale now. In August. Summer. Sheesh.

**FCD** has been delivered to the school and as I was leaving, the first (early) student and parent arrived. Before he left, I hacked back the wisteria and/or trumpet vine that was enveloping the back gate and making it a challenge to get the truck in and out of the back yard. No more. Go me! And since being back, I’ve emptied the dishwasher and put the couple of dirty spoons in for the next load. I roll-sucked the area rug in the living room. And I now have an hour to chill.

Oh yeah - when we went to the school this morning, we’d left thru the back gate in the truck, and the garage was left wide open! This is a very safe neighborhood. Plus both cars were in the garage, so to anyone driving by, it looked like someone was home. But that’s not something I plan to do again. Dammit.

You put the garlic in and roll the tube around between your hands. The whack the snot out of it method works much better IMHO. Our tube lives in the back of a catch all kitchen drawer because we are unable to toss unused kitchen gadgets.

If you’re chopping your garlic finely, then the whack-'n-mince method works well. But for some recipes, you want to slice your garlic cloves finely with a razor. The little garlic clove rollers are good for garlic prep for that.

I have better luck rolling them back and forth on a cutting board surface inside the tube rather than between my hands. They work pretty well.

Remember when I had my boots cleaned, and I went to [Little Cheerful Café](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=558180114&rls=en&q=%22little+cheerful%22+bellingham,+wa&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjT08r89eaAAxX8BzQIHbKlC9AQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=1560&bih=947&dpr=2) while I was waiting? Mrs. L.A. said she was hungry on the way to the gastroenterologist, and asked if we could go out to breakfast. So we went there after her procedure. She had the in-house made biscuits and gravy with two over easy eggs, and I had a beef birria omelette like I had last time. We had Hammerhead coffee, which is roasted a couple of blocks up the street from the café. Good food, good coffee, and we sat outside under the shade of some trees and people- (and dog-) watched.

Afternoon all. Actually did clean some of my kitchen and put stuff in other places, so that was my housekeeping for the day (or week). Swimming, whirlpool and sauna are done and am waiting for the dishwasher to finish it’s cycle, then on to soccer about 5pm…Hope to meet some of my team players (they’ve picked the teams, but this is a general ‘everyone’s invited’ jamboree practice, next week starts the team practices). But if all 132 boys decide to show up… 😲 😲 🤯 🤯

Dinner is supposed to be Salad Bowl, but I missed going to Olive Garden last week so if practice doesn’t run to late, might drive over there for a late dinner and have the Salad tomorrow. We’ll see.

**talkie** , nothing I can say, but {{{{ }}}}

**Oopsie** , sounds the PT guy is serious about his job, hope it works well for you.

**FCM** , FEDEX and the Post Office are usually good about leaving it at or near my door and not by the garage. Concur on them being idiots. And I’ve been known to drive back down my street to confirm that my garage door is closed, even though I’m in a very safe neighborhood too.

**Cookie** , glad all is going well and your in the driver’s seat again.

**JtC** , I’ve been turning off the AC and opening my bedroom windows the past few nights at the nighttime temperatures are dropping into the 60’sF. It’s 89F right now, however, and the AC is most definitively on. And love the GG story.

**J-Bats** , other MMP’ers took care of the garlic peeler question, so I have one. In Exhibit A, is the cutting board designed with those spots, or did a package of Sesame Seed Buns implode over it?

**Flyboy** , haven’t had a good American Breakfast in quite some time, may have to visit the Eggs Up or our local Sunny Side Cafe sometime soon.

OK, need to empty the dishwasher and be ready in about an hour to head out to the soccer fields. Take care all.

That’s the design. It matches my decor. Most everything in my kitchen is black, and some red.

That’s a good idea, thank you!

@Jack_Batty I looked at some plastic cutting boards online and the rough spot is indeed a grater. I wouldn’t think that cutting board plastic is hard enough to be very helpful, but the manufacturers wouldn’t add them if people didn’t find them of value.

The sun has come out and the weeds have grown about 6 inches since morning. It will be a waste of time trying to deal with them until the hurricane breaks up so I will just glare at them whenever I look outside.

I’ve not used the peelers like you got, but the _whack the snot out of it_ method to be pretty easy.

**{{{wordy}}}** Limbo is not a good place to live.

Yay on the post surgery check and release from restrictions **cookie**. The antibiotics before dental work thing has been pretty common for a while (my last surgery was ~9 years ago and I was given those instructions).

**Moooooom** , I can always tell if FedEx was the one to deliver a large package because they place it on my stoop right in front of the screen door, which opens out. I pretty much have to knock over the package to get out my door to retrieve it.

Groceries are bought, dog park visited for about 20 minutes (when it’s hot out, Nelson is ready to leave after about that long) and supper (a patty melt, an ear of sweet corn and the last of the cilantro lime slaw) et. Now, I’m chilling in the studio (Lord, how I’ve missed that this irk week) doing some sketches for a new paying gig. I’ve never done wedding invitations before, but one of the photographers with whom I work recommended me to a wedding planner. Right now, I’m just sketching them out and pulling dies and cartridges for cuts to include. It should be interesting and will give a few semolians to have fun with / pay for my personal projects.

> Anyway, she’s still determined to go to the oncologist Monday. We’ll make it happen, but I don’t think she will appreciate the results. They’ve been trying to get her to use a feeding tube for over a year now and, since her weight is now plummeting, will likely insist. But I don’t know that it will help. Once a body begins to die, does flooding it with nutrients help?

I know that empty feeling. Not easy, but rest assured it’s normal.

As to the feeding tube. …

Go back!!! It’s a trap!!!

A feeding tube, once installed and in use becomes something that is a big legal obstacle to stop. That turns someone dying of natural causes into “she died because you pulled the plug”. And the medical establishment will often fight back a bunch on letting you pull that plug. Not for cynical or evil reasons, but just for fear of liability later from any/all family members who wanted to “do more for Mom”.

Meanwhile, the patient’s interests aren’t being considered. A feeding tube doesn’t prevent starvation. It just prolongs it from weeks to months. At the ever present risk of significant and nasty systemic infection every time it’s used. An infection that will almost guarantee a miserable final exit.

If Mom wants to do absolutely everything and suffer every possible indignity for another breath’s worth of duration on Earth, a feeding tube is totally part of that plan. If, conversely, she’s about done now and just wants the easy way out in the reasonably near future, a feeding tube is totally _not_ the way to do that.

It is 100% her decision, and there is no wrong answer _for her by her lights_. But asking for one thing while expecting the other is a horrid problem that many people get into. Or getting talked into it by medical staffers who are so death-avoidant that they’ll do anything to the patient to avoid the feeling they failed through inaction.

I wish you and Mom the best way out of the nasty corner of human existence you’re now trapped in. {{Hugs}} for sure for you both.

As to the first part … Hooray!!!1!!1!11!!1!!! You totally deseve some good news. And despite your misgivings, apparently you’ve been doing the right healing stuff.

Almost anyone who’s immunocompromised or has an artificial whatever is given that advice. Mouths are nasty hotbeds of infection and dental procedures including simple cleanings can directly inject mouth-nasties into the blood. My late first wife dealt with that for years.

@overlyverbose

⬆ what @LSLGuy said. Pure wisdom this grizzled, cranky old night nurse thinks should be shouted from the rooftops, over and over again.

Once a tube is in, it’s staying in. And once it’s in, hydration can also be delivered whether the person wishes to vote otherwise or not, which also not only prolongs the dying process but removes the last little speck of control the human dwelling within the body might wish to have.

I have explicit instructions for Amazon to deliver to my side door. 1a.) It’s less visible to the street, and 2b.) I hafta go aaallll the way around the house to retrieve the damn thing, for exactly the same reason you mentioned.

They average about 70% (hey, it’s a passing grade!) so whenever they put it at my side door & I get the “how’d we do?” survey, I make a point of praising that the delivery person “followed instructions” like we’re in friggin’ kindergarten or something, but I figure, best to praise good behavior.

> sometimes they simply _can’t_ break a $100; they don’t have $98 or whatever in suitable smaller bills. They may have started the shift with enough, but after a couple folks proffer big bills now they’re flat out

Flashback to about a month ago, when the 1st 3 customers in line all had a cheap order AND paid with a hundred. Two of them were rude enough to not even ask (“Hey, can you break this?”) and so the next several customers all got their change in ones, and had some frowny faces about it. 🤷‍♀️

But if ever I absolutely cannot make change for you - not even in all quarters and pennies, and do not think I don’t know how to be quite passive-aggressive - then I’d simply, politely, inform the customer that I can’t make change for their $1,000 bill or whatever, and do they have a different form of payment? If there’s any pushback, or any response besides whipping out a Discover card or whatever, well … that’s what my manager is for.

But I would _NEVER_ simply hand over an order for free, just because I didn’t have the change available in my till.
That just does. not. happen.

On behalf of the cashiers in your area: 💕

This ^^ Mumper has seen things.

Sending good wishes from my little corner of the world to you - this is a LOT to process (and chew on!) and physically deal with, and if you’re anything like me when I was in a similar circle of hell, it’s just one foot in front of the other for now.

Chew away. Scream into the void. Vent to us. We are here, and we love you.

The other day I got almost the same: turkey and **provolone** on a pretzel roll. Twas delishush.

This is a brilliant way to phrase it.

I look forward to the juicy gossipy details in a future update. I’m sorry, sugarplum, this SUCKS that it happened, but ya gotta know, we’re all popping popcorn at this point.

Witty repartee like ^^ is what keeps me coming back. 😃

That, and the weather reports.

* * *

Showered, shaved, hair washed. Got out of work HELLA early, because I quietly told my manager, “I’m making _ **us** _ dinner tonight.” Bless her, she understood.

Off to prep said dinner. His ass better not stand me up … but if he does, at least _my_ dinner is sorted!
(There’s a “dumpling” joke in there, somewhere, for those who caught that remark a lil’ while back.)
(Okay, he ate my dumplings last time. It turned into … well, you know how y’all get.)

Thank all the gods I planned slightly ahead, and washed the blankets and pillowcases yesterday, plus wore heavy-ass eyeliner to work today so now, post shower, I have some pretty decent smoky eyes going.
