What, no love for Willie Nelson? Why, I oughta … { _shakes fist_ }

Between pop rock, and the abomination known as “adult contemporary” there’s plenty.

What the hell is the matter with people?!? I’d buy one, and I (_shhh!_) don’t even use coasters!

(My drinks are rarely iced or particularly cold. I do use one as a trivet when having an especially hot cuppa tea or mug of soup.)

I’d have bought it as soon as I saw it. 🌈 Maybe cuz the weather is warming up & folks are sick of winter gear?

Concur! Very nice touch.

This is really excellent advice.

I will add on: If you can afford it, get two pairs - both comfortable, but slightly different fit/brand. Alternating shoes gives them a chance to dry out/breathe and they’ll last more than twice as long (e.g. it’s not just having double the shoes = double the lifespan, they’ll last more than double) and having slightly different arch support etc. is slightly less tiring than constantly having your foot bones in the exact same position.

Sadly, this is an incredibly valuable skill these days. It’s like being good at typing back in the super-early days of computers, when most people were still doing the hunt-and-peck with these newfangled glowing boxes.

I may be not be of as fine a vintage as many of my esteemed Mumpers, but I’m familiar with these.

… okay, I saw ‘em as a wee lil’ kid, they were long gone before I ever worked retail.

That being said: was there an official name for them, besides “ker-chunk machine” because honestly, that - or some variant - is all I’ve ever called them, and anyone who’s gonna know what they are in the 1st place recognizes that term.

> Why is there no light metal?

Forgot about this comment.

There is aluminum and titanium.

And then there’s something called folk metal. From that genre, I can recommend this album:

> **[The Mantle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mantle)**
>
> The Mantle is the second studio album by American extreme metal band Agalloch. The album was released on August 13, 2002, by The End Records.
> Cinema "really emerged as a reference point for how we arranged our music \[on The Mantle\]," said guitarist Don Anderson. He suggested that the band was "thinking in images and how sound might express those images". Taking a more mellow tone than Agalloch's first full-length, Pale Folklore, The Mantle still contains heavy electric guitar riffs as well as ...

Funny thing, one of the singers sounds exactly like one of my coworkers. So every time I listen to this album, I think of my coworker. Which is better than another album which has a sound effect which mimics the telephone ring tone.

I tend toward progressive metal, and even that type of music has quite a lot of variation.

Green Carnation (progressive metal) did an acoustic album:

> **[Acoustic Verses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Verses)**
>
> Acoustic Verses is the fifth full-length studio album by the Norwegian progressive metal band Green Carnation. It was released on January 30, 2006, via Sublife Productions.
> The album features three songs included on their 2005 EP The Burden Is Mine... Alone: "Sweet Leaf", "The Burden Is Mine... Alone", as well as the cover of Jon English's 1978 international hit "Six Ribbons" (only in the special edition).
> The album was met with positive reviews Blabbermouth.net rated it
> with an 8 and describ...

And why did I not know that Queensrÿche was formed in Bellevue, Washington?

(Is it obvious I am avoiding the adulting I should do?)

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization, I have Verger duty, followed by a McN.O.L. and then back to da cave for nappage, sloth and general overall uselessness. I am back to bein’ my usual cheerful and lovely self.

**{{{Doggio}}}** hope Darci has been found or has found her way home by now.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

You’re not a candidate for Cologuard? I asked my doc the last time, and it was great - my house, my schedule, no nasty stuff to drink. I am in the low-risk category. But it may be worth the ask…

At the vendor fair yesterday, my daughter gave me their POS terminal - all programmed for the various items to be sold, whether cash or check, and it would read payment by phone, tap-to-pay, chips, or swipe. We’ve come a long way from ker-chunk machines. Tho I admit I did a lot of cussing, canceling, and re-entering. Yet another reason it’s a good thing I never worked retail…

> [@The\_Stainless\_Steel\_Rat](#):
>
> what do you plan to do with the leftovers?

Hold till the next sale, I guess. Plus making more - after figuring out what might sell better. I’m guessing next will be their Christmas sale.

Oh, **doggio**!! Hoping you get Darci back soon! And may I suggest a harness - they’re harder to slip out of, tho our idiot Dalmatian did.

Weird dream towards this morning (since I woke around 3, then re-slept) that we still had our last sailboat and the boatyard parked it next to our current boat so we could work on it. Except we sold that sailboat 12 or 13 years ago!

We’ll be heading to the boat yard today - it should be a good work day - cooler with sunshine. I think the plan is to paint the bootstripe (the band between the bottom paint and the hull that we waxed so diligently.) Not sure what else - we were talking about a few things when we ate yesterday. But there’s always something to do, isn’t there? The question now is when will we go back int he water - we don’t think it will be till next week.

But we shall see. Happy Sunday!!

Yes, yes. Though I prefer Mr Frixion and Mrs Brain Dump. Then the only problem becomes remembering I have said list by the time the next fair happens. In slightly more seriousness, I hadn’t considered a lot of items I’m thinking of. It was only seeing other people bring things in that I hadn’t thought of that got me thinking.

**Doggio** , I hope Darci comes home soon. Maybe she went out looking for pizza? (Trying, and probably failing, for a small amount of humor while hopes are high for lovable Darci to tire hereself out and come back.)

**Dicey** , adulting is overrated. Necessary, but overrated.

>
> That being said: was there an official name for them, besides “ker-chunk machine” because honestly, that - or some variant - is all I’ve ever called them, and anyone who’s gonna know what they are in the 1st place recognizes that term.

I think it’s what I’ve called it too. I remember playing with one when my dad owned his service station in the early 80s. I just loved the “ker-chunk” sound. It was probably a good thing that there weren’t a lot of people in the office at the time.

Regarding being comfortable, I love that kind of work environment. CtE loved moving from middle school where they had a dress code (kahkis with belt, solid color polo) to an (almost) anything goes dress code. They love that they can wear their sweats, their lounge pants, their skirts and their geek shirts without issue.

Regarding the repair fair, I’m not sure how common it is, but it WAS pretty cool. One of our librarians recruited a good number of people who could fix a bunch of things - woodworkers, seamstresses, people who could fix bike, those who could fix tech and household products, a knife sharpener. We realized that next time, we need someone that does jewelry repair.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 10.1c/51f and cloudy. Weather app is unimpressed and tells me “It is overcast and fucking shitty outside”. Doesn’t look that bad to me, but I’m not going out there anyway.

Yesterday was busy but fun, we went for curry before an amazing album release gig from our friends in [Empyre](https://kscopemusic.com/artists/empyre/) - we have been fans and friends of the guys for several years and it was great to see them performing their own headline gig on the main stage in one of our best local venues. Ended up in the Giff afterwards with a load of other people who’d been at the gig, and eventually made it home at 4am.

Talking of making it home, **doggio** has Darci found her way back yet? I hope she does remember where to find her towel, treats and the best fuss.

**Mooom** I can’t believe people aren’t interested in cat butt coasters! I’d definitely have some if I was closer 🙂

**Pilot** sorry to hear that Co-Pilot is still poorly, I hope she gets better today.

**nellie** barnet is indeed rhyming slang for hair, it actually comes from Barnet Fair. Also, if you’re looking for “light metal”, you would probably find it badged as “AOR” instead. Metal comes in many forms, some of the heavier bands have some melodic and fun songs, whereas some of them are what we know as “croak-rock” because there’s more growling than anything else.

It appears “credit card imprinter” was close to the common “official” term. See **[Credit card imprinter - Google Search](https://www.google.com/search?q=credit+card+imprinter&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&oq=credit+card+imprinter&sclient=img)**.

I vaguely think I recall they were mostly made by one company (who’d recently transitioned from making buggy whips) and so the machines were also called “[companyname] machines” in the then-current style of things like “Xerox machines”, “IBM machines”, “NCR machines”. And of course the instantly recognizable **[Brannock Device](https://brannock.com/)** 🙂 .

I sorta-kinda think the ker-chunk company name was vaguely akin to “Arco”. Although “Arco” was later the trendy 1980s name for what had been the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company. So that’s probably not exactly right.

I sure can. The ones with the cat butt tags in your other pix had the tail & the bunghole obscured.

Those are adorable in that irreverent Midwestern crafty way. I and my late first wife would have quickly bought a dozen, despite not being pet or cat people. Her Ladyship would be \<gasp\> simply _appalled_. I love her to pieces but she can be distressingly … formal. Hence her mumper moniker.

Speaking of whom, I’m very happy to report that she is much on the mend here in the mid-morning. No more barfing since about midnight, slept long and well, now sounds human not thrashed, etc. She’s still going to be eating gingerly for a day or two, but clearly we’re into the aftermath of the event, not the event itself.

As to me today, I stayed up too late but slept in nicely. Coffee is mostly on board & my typical at-home breakfast beckons after this post.

I have sucessfully skated through all 3 of my irk-days and now begin 2-1/2 days off = Sun afternoon + Mon-Tue. Then back in the barrel at 5am on Wed through Fri. Having successfully skated this time I’ve moved most of the way to the top of the priority list to be next used, so it’s close to a certainty I’ll be doing something irksome some or all of those days.

One last thing:
Hi **Boo**!! I see you lurking down there just below me.

**Darci** please come home. We are all worried about you.

Today is an at home day. I’m crabby and tired and had a frozen pizza last night which did me no favors. It’s cloudy and chilly outside and the larder is stocked. There is no need to fire up the car. I love that car.

How does one post pics here?

Put the pix online at any of the many picture album websites. Make sure the picture’s security is configured so a login _there_ is not required for somebody to see it. Then include the url of the album page in your post here if you want us to see a clickable text url that will open the picture.

Or … if you want the picture to be displayed right here inside the thread, then you need to get the url of the image itself, _not_ the url of the page containing the picture. How you do that depends on your image site and your browser. Then put that image-only url on a line by itself within your post. No spaces, punctuation, or anything else on the same line as the pic url. Viola!

We have them here in unassuming Lincoln~except we call it the The Repair Cafe. It’s once a month, sponsored by a neighborhood group at a church. If I can rehab my breathing/oxygen stamina a smidge I might try volunteering to do sewing/seamstress/mending at it. I miss sewing and mending, which I’ve done since I was a wee lass. Nothing artistic like needlework but fixing and making do or helping a favorite piece of clothing make it through another season.

I was getting ready the say the same thing. Great minds, hunh?

Spot has gorgeous eyes~what a pretty kitty! And the look on her face……we humans are obviously superfluous.

I have my _ **🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼** _ that Darci gets hungry for milk bones and shows up at your door _tout suite_.

Yeah, that’s on the list, along with amputating 3 legs. 😉 And both Maggie Wonderbeagle and Nelly K. Beagle could slip out of body harnesses. Beagles, like cats are liquids.

I have one of those, too, so if you or **Pilot** get _Final Countdown_-ed back to 1992, I can help you navigate. 😉
