Me: “Maybe today won’t be too bad, and I’ll be home early and get a long pregame nap.”
TPTB: “The Senior Clerk is on vacation, and also today. So you’re on the 100 and 200 untill 6, then MSG take over.”
So I got out at 12:30 today. I grabbed some salmon for dinner, did laundry, and took a quick nap. Now I’m up from naptime(Spot was not happy about it), having a Monte Cassino, salmon, brown rice, and spinach with cheese and pepper. Watching the Canes not hockey.

Evening all. Gym was done, soccer has been coached (we lost 2-3) and an eye is being kept on the weather for tomorrow, I am due to referee at 8am and 9:45am and coach at 12:30pm, so another full day at the parks. Will have the alarm set for 6:15am so probably will be up by 5am, so off to bed relatively early tonight. Predictions for rain on Saturday range from 25% to 60% so it’s a toss-up if we get the soccer games in or not. Belly is full of salad and ice cream (odd combination but not too bad..).

**JtC** , I have over 20 years of records stashed in 4 large file drawers, I guess that is my contribution to hoarding, but they are well-ordered and out of sight.

**Oopsie** , glad you are making some new friends there, hope you can get together with your fellow singer. And sounds like you indeed dodged a hiring oops there. Happy Lego-ing!!

**VanGo** , the US Government offered (in my later years working for them) a 2-week plan with eight 9-hour days, one 8-hour day and the tenth day off. Never took them up on it but a lot of folks did and seemed happy with it.

**Nut** , happy to hear the Food place came through for you.

**Shoe** , hope Firday is proceeding without too much craziness.

**red** , sounds like you got a pretty good deal on the tires.

**Hippie** , sounds like the beginnings of a great holiday. Enjoy!

**swampy** , almost wish we did have some of your rain, been pretty dry up around these parts.

Me too. Mom would always do the Friday shopping at 2-3 different grocery stores to find the best prices and always was careful with the budget. Some of it has gotten to me, am comfortable but still very cautious about my spending and going into debt.

And about 9pm so will be thinking about Slumberland soon, 6:30am comes around rather sooner than I like these days. Take care all.

We went out for Mexican food last night. I had my usual shredded-beef taco salad, and a side of fried jalapeños. The peppers were hot, and I was hungry; so I only chopped up three quarters of them to mix into the salad. For tonight’s diner, I nuked the salad, added ‘Mexican’ shredded cheese, and wrapped it up in a tortilla. Yum.

We’re going to a casino for breakfast tomorrow. I would rather go to downtown Bellingham and bring a camera (Nikon FE2) along. But maybe I can get out in the afternoon and get some shots around Blaine.

When I went to get my lunch today, I bought The Missus a [‘Meow’ Haworthia Garden](https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/bow-wow-and-meow-tillandsia-planter-082641). The 'Bow Wow’s were cute too, but we have cats. 🐱 She noted that it ‘matches’ the cat figures she’d bought in Hawaii.

**nut** remember when you were concerned that you would need to ask for an extension and now it’s turned out that you handed the thesis in early. YAY!!! Find a way to turn your brain off about the thesis and relax. Maybe a massage or bubble bath or facial or mani-pedi or … (well use your imagination)

**boofae** I really didn’t understand what you and nut were talking about in re the toilets and what disgusting thing people might be doing but after your detailed explanation now I understand.

**JtC** the other protein that is versatile is ground turkey. We make burgers with it, meatloaf, turkey hash, turkey sweet potato shepherd’s pie. Something I’ve not made yet but have the recipe to is “Tim Walz’s Turkey Trot Tater-Tot Hotdish”.

**VanGo** very happy that you now have health insurance and will have a PCP. would that everyone in our country had health insurance. Also, good work schedule. My work schedule in the job I had before I gave birth was 5 10’s and a 5; yeah, kinda sucked.

**hippie** sounds very relaxing; hope you’re having a campfire, and s’mores. 🔥

Me three.

Hubs and I went to a SeniorFest at the Rec Center today. I told him I would like to leave between 9:30 and 9:40; I was ready, we didn’t leave until a tad after 10am. It was ok as the bingo didn’t start until about 10:45. Very good donuts, pastries and coffee to start. Hubs won $3 at bingo. Me, I had the dud of all bingo cards but it was still fun sitting and chatting with others at our table. Had a band play between bingo and lunch and they played mostly songs from the '60’s and '70’s so right up the alley of most of the attendees. About 10 of us ladies got in a circle and danced our hearts out. Lunch was catered by our favorite Italian restaurant so it was pretty good. Then they held the anniversary waltz and each couple who participated received a separate ticket for a prize. Hubs & I won the prize which is 2 tickets to the Nutcracker. There were prizes for best costumes; only about 10% of the attendees had worn one; we did not, I didn’t even know it was a thing. Lastly were door prizes. I ended up with three tickets as the aide to the State Senator gave me hers as they were leaving before the drawings and I found one on the floor. Nobody at our table won a door prize but we were all winners for the fun we had. There was a woman whose birthday it was and she turned 102. She sang Pennies from Heaven acapella then we all sang Happy Birthday to her.

Homecoming is over. I’d gotten a good video of the Band marching in the parade (plus **Mrs Magill** running across the front to get a good picture.)

Unfortunately, there was too much rain to do the show tonight, so **Mrs Magill’s** parents and sister didn’t see it. We don’t want to ruin the uniforms or the very expensive woodwind instruments.

Thank you to everyone who’s said they’ve fot my back. My friend’s positive reaction has really been helpful.

Now, I just need to figure out what to do about my super-sensitive chest, because it’s going to drive me insane.

Home from irk - tossed Da Monks some treats and now he’s draped across my thigh & purring into my kneecap, as one does.

In addition to all the carbs I brought in, there was also a birthday cake! **S.M.** made the cake part (confetti) and her mom made the chocolate buttercream frosting … ZOMG soooo good.

Plus because { _stoopit reasons due to customer dumbassery_ } we had a perfectly gorgeous small cheese pizza to nibble on, and though pizza ain’t really my thing, who can argue with plain cheeeeeze?

Those are ADORABLE!!

IIRC from when I had a bunch of 'em … advise her to basically neglect them - a sunny spot by a window, and water, like, maayyyybe twice a month or so. Top mistake is to overwater.

With proper neglect, they’re fairly long lived & quite pretty.

The late 2020’s answer to the '90s Neiman Marcus cookie recipe.

❤

Did she say things like, “The secret to a long life is to smoke three cigars a week, and always have a wee nip of rum when you’re feeling poorly, or with breakfast.”

Time for some deviled lettuce 😉 and a bit of zombie killin’ before I gotta open tomorrow.

Fun with cats:

Let them both out for an evening roam. Buddy comes in, then when Kasya comes back in, he slides out again. Once Buddy’s at the door to come back in, Kasya’s trying to get back out. Since I’d like to go to bed soon (DH is already down), not happening. I think she thought she was either smarter or faster than me and could get out past me. Nope, I’m big enough and smart enough to pick her up and hold her while opening the door for her brother 🙂 .

(sigh) I remember when my hand could support her whole torso, or she could curl up on my shoulder. Not any more, we have about 9lb. of adolescent ladycat now.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/56f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Doesn’t that one fucking cloud look like a weasel screwing a carrot?”

**JtC** I’m glad you had all your documents to hand, and I agree, for some people it would be too much of a slog to find all the right paperwork and I am sure some of them gave up too easily.

**Mollie** good to hear that your friend sent you a text and is on your side. Expect more of the same, it just takes folks a little time to process what you’re telling them before they get on with still being your friend.

**Cat\_Glove** that sounds like a good time was had by all! Congrats on the prizes too, hope you enjoy them.

I had a very pleasant evening, made some keema for dinner and watched a film. I decided I deserved a glass of wine too, so I had one. The rest of the bottle will probably end up being used for cooking as we won’t want it tonight and after that, it’s not great.

I’m up, had some breakfast and fed the cats. I contemplated going to the gym this morning but I have faffed about too much already and now can’t fit that into my day. I need to wash my hair, go out to do a couple of errands, have some lunch, then go and stand in a supermarket foyer for 2hrs collecting for Little Paws. I’ll probably have to take the collection buckets over to LPHQ afterwards, then need to work out if I have time to pick up 'im indoors from the station before it’s time to go out again. I also need to fit dinner in somewhere, not sure exactly how that’s going to work out. I also need to get some bits from the supermarket while I’m there. So I’d better get on!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and cloudy with rain startin’ around five p.m. We shall see. I have a
Boston \< snerk \> BUTT! \< snerk \> in the crock pot slow cookin’ away as I post. It’s a larger one, so I think some of it will stay at da cave for future use. I will make the cake and prep the cabbage casserole this mornin’. My **DAWGS** play Vanderbilt at 12:45 P.M. Looks to be a soggy homecomin’ game. Thus, even though I will be in da cave, I will be fairly bzzy. Sup shall be BLTs and oven fries cause it’s easy and I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for a BLT.

**Cat\_Glove** sounds like a good time was had by all. Also, a hunnert and two, impressive! I like that she sang _Pennies From Heaven._

**shoe** glad irk was not bad despite the dipsticks. Into everyone’s life some dipsticks must fall. OOH! That should be embroidered on a throw pillow! SCORE on the cake and pizza!

**Nettie** I thought Buddy was not allowed walkabout anymore. Apparently he has gotten better about showin’ back up to the place where the fuds and treatz are.

**Mollie** sorry **Mrs Magill’s**'rents and sis didn’t get to see the show. Good idea to not ruin uniforms and expensive insturments, however.

**BooFae** I say it sounds like a night for a chippy tea what with all you got goin’ on and such.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Much rain overnight and much of today will be soggy, starting with 62 Ferrets and not getting many more. Otis will be bathed today so he won’t be quite as grubby when we drop him off on Moanday.

My day will be dedicated to pre-trip planning so I don’t have to feel rushed. I decided to take my current crochet project with me so I have something to do in the evenings. I imagine their routine includes TV watching and in case their tastes don’t match mine, I want to be ready.

The following is blurred to spare everyone from my whining about family dramatics. You have been warned. I just needed to unload.

My youngest sis was texting me last night. Apparently she’s cut contact with 2 of our sibs and I knew if I’d said what I thought, I’d be cut, too. I know being primarily responsible for our mom’s everyday life is a challenge (BTDT with **FCD** ’s parents) but sis is acting as if she’s the only person in the whole world who’s ever had to deal with an aging parent on an extended basis. I understand she’s afraid that she’ll be the one to find Mom when she dies, but I don’t get the panic - a phone call or two and she won’t have to handle everything. Especially should Mom go into Hospice.

She’s also panicking over being HOMELESS (that’s exactly how she put it in her texts) as if no one else has ever faced having to move. Has she made a plan? Has she looked at her finances? Has she looked at rentals or considered a roomie? Of course not.

I suspect she’d been drinking last night - I also think she does that too much, but that’s another story. I also think she’s looking for the fawning attention she gets on her various FB pages. Sorry, kid, that’s not real life. Your followers only care about your life in passing, at least that’s the case with most of them. So pull up your big girl panties and give your future serious consideration.

I’ve been listening to things falling in the yard all night and continuing into today. I’m pretty sure it’s nothing more than acorns and maybe small branches falling on the metal roof of the shop or neighboring outbuildings. But sometimes it does startle. At least nothing sounds disastrous, like a tree falling on a building. We’ve tried to make sure any tree that falls in our yard will be away from the house and our various other structures.

And so the soggy day begins. Happy Saturday.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 56F and cloudy. Fog is starting to move in, so we’ll have morning fog and afternoon sun, with a daytime high of 71F.

**Shoe** , I’m glad your work shift was relatively calm.

**FCM** , I don’t know what to say about the family drama. My middle sister (my mother had only her and me) takes care of my mother’s needs, and I’m truly grateful. I never kvetch or complain, and she never does either. The few times she asks for help, I’m there, and I don’t complain either. On the other hand, my sister doesn’t rely on my mother for a place to live, and she and her husband are fine financially. So, our situations are not even close. I am lucky that my sister chooses to do this. As we get closer to assisted living, I’m sure I’ll be more involved in the planning. We’ve had preliminary discussions, and we’re all aligned. For what it’s worth, I hope your sister doesn’t cut off her nose to spite her face because she doesn’t like what she hears. That would be really short-sighted.

The slider door people came yesterday, removed the old door, and installed the new slider with the built-in pet door. The pet door is installed on the lower portion of the sliding half of the patio door, and everything is well-sealed. It’s so nice to have a slider that opens easily and gives you a full opening. That stupid insert made going in and out while carrying things very difficult. I posted a couple of pics in the book of faces. It looks out on the dogs’ portion of the yard, which looks like a barren wasteland because they tear through it at high speed, and now Zeus likes to dig a spot for himself in what used to be a garden.

I’m not sure what I’ve got planned for today; maybe nothing, maybe something. It’s supposed to be nice, so maybe I’ll pull some weeds later. They are sprouting like crazy!

For now, I need some more coffee.

Please take care of yourselves!

I told her not to forget to water them. She said, ‘They’re cactuses. They don’t need water. Maybe once a month.’ Unfortunately, we don’t really have a sunny place to put them except for the table… that holds the printer, my watch winder, a vertical basket thing for holding stuff, and the place behind the printer that stuff gets put until it’s taken out to a car. I suppose I could move my watch winder.

I have a three-pound pork roast in the oven. I patted it dry, rubbed it with liquid smoke, and then rubbed it with my pork rub. It’s covered, the oven was preheated to 235º, and it should be done in five or six hours.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. About the only thing on the agenda today is finishing the laundry. Otherwise, RDOS.

Y’all have a great day!

Yesterday I did what I’ve been putting off for months because in my mind it was overwhelming. I went to Best Buy and bought a new teevee. And sound bar. And an upgraded Roku. And arranged to have everything installed because the amount of cables and stuff is _too much_. And being an old person who trusts nothing, I sprung for the extended warranties. My current teevee was my mom’s, who died in 2011. It still works perfectly, but as my sister said, you wanted a new teevee and you deserve it. The first step towards cord cutting, but I’m not going to cancel cable til after the holidays cuz I gotta be able to watch TCM and sappy Hallmark Christmas movies.

I have no comments about terlits. For a while, Ursala Kitteh was drinking out the terlits but I think she stopped because her arthruitis doesn’t allow for leaping. And no, I didn’t use chemical terlits cleaners. Baking soda works just as well.

It’s a beautiful day in no. Illinois. Sunny and right now in the lower 50s. Getting to the upper 60s today.

Happy Saturday! A cold front came in overnight, and yesterday’s sunshine and 90-degree high temp have given way to rain and a forecasted high of only 63°F…with more of the same expected tomorrow. I kind of like it, though: we got a glimpse of autumn last week before the few days of Summer Part 2: Electric Boogaloo, and I’m happy for the return of fall. And this morning’s overcast skies helped me sleep in a little. It’s supposed to hit 80 again for a couple of days at the end of next week, but then I’ll be hoping for all autumn all the time. 🤞 🍂

After yesterday’s post I completed both of the work tasks that were waiting for me, and the rest of the “on the clock” day was relatively quiet. It was nice to have a slow afternoon, and a gentle transition to the weekend. I stayed in my home office for a while after logging off work, to pay bills and also back up my personal computer\[1\]: Windows Update had started offering a new version that I wanted to install, but I always like to do a backup first. The previous backup was only 5 months old, so nothing catastrophic could have been lost if I hadn’t done another, but I figured I had the time so why not. And they do take time, because sometimes I only back up what’s new/changed (like my MP3 files) but other folders I copy in their entirety each time even though they’re kind of big; usually because I’ve done some subfolder reorganizing since the last backup. The eventual upgrade went smoothly, and wound up taking just a few minutes – a fraction of the time I spent on the backup, but I’m glad I did it.

Taking care of the bills and some other things yesterday meant I had very little personal administrivia to deal with this morning: normally by the time I get to this point on a Saturday it’s noon or later, but right now it’s only 10:56am. 🙂 A little too early for lunch and Lego (it was soooo nice to start building a new set last night!), so I’ll go read for a while. I have this week’s issue of the _New Yorker_ to peruse, plus I just started book #3 in David Baldacci’s King & Maxwell series – even though the Maxwell character annoyed me for most of book #2. I like the writing well enough, I had a digital credit from Amazon, and a book I’m waiting for\[2\] doesn’t get released until the 20th, so I figured what the heck. Anyway, after this post I’ll be moving to the couch on the main floor…and then I’ll only have to go a few feet when I’m ready to relocate to the kitchen table to eat and re-engage with hundreds of tiny plastic bricks. 😁

The kennel I used for Bailey would provide food if needed/requested, but I always sent her regular stuff with her: I figured being there was stressful enough, she didn’t also need for her GI tract to freak out (twice) because of sudden diet changes. 🙂

My company offers various work schedules, and that’s the one most of my current co-workers are on: yesterday was their Friday off, which contributed to my quiet afternoon. We call it a “9/80” schedule (9 days and 80 hours each pay period). I work a “5/40,” which is 5 days and 40 hours each week. One of my direct reports works a “4/10,” which is four 10-hour days each week.

I don’t know/remember where you are, so I can’t solve for “other”…but no, he didn’t go anywhere with a name. 😁

Most of the time that’s what I order! Sometimes I get pepperoni, if I get a small enough pizza – but if I get a large, for a lot of leftovers, it’s plain cheese because (a) I’ll always be in the mood for that and (b) I find that it reheats the best/easiest.

I’m pretty boring when it comes to toppings: the fanciest I get is the occasional bacon/onion/ground beef (aka “cheeseburger”) pizza, but these days I can only eat one slice per meal if there’s a lot of stuff. I can usually have two slices with just pepperoni or plain cheese. And I don’t care for sausage or most veggies or anything.

Yay for new electronics! And smart to arrange for everything to be installed. 🙂

At some point I want to get a bigger television for the TV room (aka the family room, on the first floor). I bought my current one in 2008 and it still works perfectly well, but I’m pretty sure it’s 50" and it’s a _little_ small for the new space. I think I’d like to get a 65" someday, but I’d have to figure out what to do with the old one; I’d be willing to donate it somewhere. I’m in no hurry.

Both of those channels have streaming apps. Just sayin’. 😃 I cancelled cable a few years ago, and replaced it with a lot of streaming services – which you’d think might cancel out any savings, but for me a bunch of subscriptions is _still_ almost $100/mo cheaper than cable was.

1. For me, this means copying files to a dedicated external drive.

2. #21 in Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache series

Afternoon. I am slobbing today.

It’s reasonably sunny, in between clouds, so I’ve done a little bit of pottering in the garden- sown some beans for overwintering and cleared out the courgette plant because it was about done for the year- but that’s about it.

I’m debating trying to book a quick trip away somewhere, but it really would rely on finding a rodent wrangler. As I live quite far away from where I was stoodinting, so the only sensible way to get to my house is by car and most of the other stoodints live in town and do not have cars, it’s a little tricky to get here. There is a bus, but it’s still a pain.

TCM does not have a streaming app unless you subscribe to a cable provider that offers TCM. I have checked this multiple times! I still kinda want local stations so YouTube TV is the top contender. Or I may just say the heck with it and stream. I’m rebuilding my DVD collection.
