We were once driving along on a five lane freeway, bumper to bumper, 60 mph when suddenly a car crossed from the left brake down lane to the right side of the freeway. Everyone hit the brakes. Nobody got hit except one poor guy in the slow lane and there wasn’t anywhere else he could have gone. He got out of his car and gingerly opened the offending car’s front door to find it empty. Apparently someone had broken down (probably the big eyed guy by the emergency box) and didn’t think to set their parking brake. ---

Late night here folks. Did go back to the gym for a bit, just to get out of the house. Need to gt up tomorrow to help get the indoor soccer stuff set-up and then monitor the games from 4-8pm since the usual suspects are out of town. Supposed to get close to 50F tomorrow, so that will be a nice change. As for driving in cities, I will admit the US of A has it’s share, but until you’ve tried Dubai, Cairo, and Bangkok, you haven’t seen everything. _red_, need to look under my bed sometime…later. Unknown what lurks there. **Cat Glove** , that’s a lot of walking, hope the hurt isn’t to bad. OK, need to get my rest for tomorrow. Take care all. ---

I was driving in Galway, Ireland, once and got lost, even though I thought I was on the right road. Stopped at a tourist booth and asked for help. The fellow looked at the map with me and explained that the name of the road changed several times and I was going the right way. I expressed some surprise at that shifting name. He smiled and said in a soft Irish accent, “Oh, sorr, if you’re expecting a road to only have one name, I’m afraid you’re in the wrong country.” ---

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a great day for that vodka ice cream milkshake. Treat yourself, you fucking deserve it.” Sounds like an excellent plan! **Taters** I am sorry your husband is so annoying about asking you to pick up lunch whenever you’re out. I would either tell him it’s not convenient, or tell him he’ll have to wait until you’ve done everything you need to do in your own time, and then he’ll get his lunch. If that turns out to be the middle of the afternoon then so be it. Do it a couple of times and he’ll soon get the message. **doggio** none of our cats have ever really been bothered about beds and bags either, Ophie loved her igloo bed but took a long time to actually get into it. Just now, Cherry is snoozing on our bed, and Blossom is spark out on the windowsill. **shoe** I’m glad you survived the night without too much weirdness and insanity! **metalmouse** sorry to hear about the lack of interwebz, it’s a good thing you have the gym to distract yourself! Nothing to report from over here today - I collected 'im indoors from the station yesterday, made curry for dinner and watched a film before bed. I’m up long before him today, cats are fed, I am medicated, and we will be off to town to do errands later. I need to get cat litter so I will park near the pet store, we might go for lunch at [Jack’s Cafe](https://www.jackscafe.co.uk/menu-1) as it’s just by the retail park. After we’ve done our errands, I think we need to go home via the supermarket as 'im indoors mentioned it yesterday. Got no other plans so the rest of the day will be slothage. I’m really missing going to the gym so I am thinking I’ll ease myself back in next week. I don’t go back to work until Thursday so I have three days to get a bit of exercise in. I need to see how well my shoulder deals with it so that I’ll know whether I need to see the GP again or not. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it! ---

I was a mere passenger in Sicily, but them people terrified me on the road! Today is starting with a brisk 18° but headed to the low 40s. We’re supposed to go to breakfast but **FCD** is still abed. No biggie, even tho my caffeination is delayed. The rest of the day will unfold as it will. I finally have my eye exam on Weds. It’s definitely due - I need to make a list of all the vision issues I’ve been dealing with of late, including the occasional apparent difficulty of getting both eyes to work together. Well, right on schedule, the HVAC crapped out again last night just in time for the weekend. The building manager supposedly was calling someone to come in, but it stayed dead all night and is still out this morning. I got up at 0600 and turned on both space heaters, and just now turned on the oven. A reckoning is coming, I think. At this point we’re paying premium rent for substandard housing. ---

Worst traffic ever was in San Juan Puerto Rico. I am sure there are traffic laws but there was no way to tell what they are. Example: I was sitting at a red light in a left turn lane waiting patiently. While I was waiting for the light to change half a dozen cars just ignored the light and turned anyway. Some passed my car on the right and some on the left. It also seemed that I was the only car on the road that week that actually stopped at stop signs. ---

The same road in Charlottetown will be called Charlestown Road. The road changes name at the half way point. And if the road continues beyond Charlottetown, the name will reflect the name of the next town, such as Halifax Road. Was it that bad last winter/summer? I’m guessing if heat is a problem, summer wasn’t fun either. Went to the gettin’ store this morning. They no longer carry the UHT milk I’ve been buying for the last few months. No idea if that’s temporary. They did re-badge all the other store-brand milk, so maybe that’s related. Took a walk and stopped at a few ethnic grocery stores on the “bad” side of town. Didn’t find any green chiles so I have to order them online. Did find some other goodies and we’ll probably stop again sometime soon. Had tacos and a tequila collins for lunch. Maybe I’ll get motivated and so some of the stuff on my to-do list. ---

Mornin’ everyone. It’s 48F, and a light rain is falling. It’ll be cloudy with periods of rain, sometimes heavy rain, throughout the day. Our high temperature will be 60F, and we expect around a quarter inch of total rainfall. As to the hubby’s lunch thing, I _have_ told him on many occasions that I’ll be gone for hours or that it’s inconvenient. I have brought home what becomes dinner, but it’s just the constant ask. I want to take care of MY shit and be done for once. I find it hard to say no because since he no longer works, he does 98% of the cooking and grocery shopping. He always returns with something just for me, so it’s difficult to say no. I told you all it was petty. I feel bad for feeling this way. I’m just a big guilt ball. I feel guilty when I buy stuff just for me even though I can afford it, and I’m not denying anybody anything. 🙄 Mainly, I was venting, but I appreciate your thoughts. **VanGo,** “clugs” is an apt name for that ice. **Chef,** the issues with the heat in your building are just unacceptable. I know you know that. Perhaps it’s time to start looking around for someplace else, but only you know what will work for you and your wife. **rocking\_chair** , although spendy, Lazy Boy often has sales and will do any couch you like in leather. I bought our first nice sofa and loveseat from Lazy Boy when we bought this house. My son still has the loveseat in his apartment in his office. It’s still very, very comfortable. Yes, it was a little spendy, but it lasts forever. I no longer have the couch because Polar, my Siberian Husky, ate part of it two weeks after we got him. **FCM** , keeping fingers crossed that the caseworkers are finding a spot for BiL. I’m not sure what the day holds for me. I need to wash the new set of sheets that was delivered yesterday. I may knock out all the laundry today instead of tomorrow. Okay, it’s time to finish the coffee. I cleaned the kitchen before I went to bed last night, so I think I’ll peruse real estate listings while mumbling to myself and exclaiming over poor design or poor color, or just odd houses that look like a mishmash of several monkey DIYers. ---

Good morning all. Rose early and went over to the gym to help get it ready for indoor soccer. Then came home for some pancakes and bacon so that has been accomplished. Need to mind the gym from 4-8pm tonight and lock up when the last game is over, so that will be my primary activity for the day. Otherwise sloth will occur. One road I use all the time has one name for most of it’s 20+ mile length, but for about 1/2 mile in the ‘downtown’ area it changes to something else. Took me a long time to figure it out. **FCM** , my next eye appointment is due in April, I usually do it every other year, but this time I think I’ll make it annual, I’m seeing ok but something seems to be ‘off’, so I’ll get it checked out. **Hippie** , yeah, rules of the road do vary. I think my one memory was on a tour bus in Bangkok. We stopped at a light and were the first vehicle there; by the time the light changed there were a couple hundred motorbikes in front of us. MD 5 in my county is either Leonardtown Rd or Point Lookout Rd. In Charles county where in merges with US 301, it becomes Crain Hwy. Then it leaves 301 and becomes Branch Ave. Luckily, it’s always MD 5. I can’t begin to describe some of the disasters I’ve seen in listings - like the bedroom where the walls were black with neon splatters all over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the splats glowed in the dark or under black light. I bet it would take 4 coats of good paint just to cover it! We went to a local Mexican place for breakfast - they just started it and it was really good and quite reasonable! Plus they have Diet Coke, which is another point in their favor! We found out about it from a menu we got this week in the mail, and I expect it was full for that same reason. Another bonus - it’s lots closer than Cracker Barrel, IHop, and Bob Evans. So huzzah! **FCD** is making parts in his shop. I’m about to go to the basement and do some cleaning after I get a fire going. That should take care of the rest of the morning. ---

If he/she determines that there is fault on the part of management, there is a 14 day window for management to get the problem fixed before tenants can file for escrow conditions. But MN law basically says that the owner/manager really is only required to issue two space heaters per apartment, which they are set up to do. That said, neither of us needs medical assistance (yet) and don’t have to live in a 55+ facility. We could easily rent a larger apartment downtown for $1K less. I’m guessing if heat is a problem, summer wasn’t fun either. We’ve been here about 2-1/2 years. There were no real glitches that first winter, but the AC has had issues this past summer, which should have been a harbinger of what was to come. They’ve also had a couple of major pipe breaks that have flooded areas of the building. Basically, the infrastructure is failing because of no programmed maintenance over the decades. A typical problem in a lot of multistory buildings.
