Asked a neighbor to drive me to the corner store. When he parked, back, I got my keys out to let him in. Theyre gone. I looked on the floor of his jeep. Nothing.
Maintenance had to come and let me in.
I cant go out again today. Lmha is closed because of holiday.
They will make me keys but I cant afford the 50 they will charge me so may not be leaving my apt for a long time.

For a diminishing value of “works” as the thermometer continues to tank. We have two space heaters to supplement the anemic building heating system, and I have my tiny ceramic heater in the bathroom which makes it comfy for shower time.
Skipping out on exercise today, as our usual leader isn’t here, and Ms Honk took over. An important part of the exercise for me is the contemplative nature of the stretching and breathing. Listening to Ms Foghorn blather about football or attempt to sing along with her music program is not conducive to that.
I think pork chops for dinner today, as I found what looks like a decent recipe on line.

Have dined on my Jersey Mike’s #3 and bought carrots and apples at Kroger (cause healthy…). Turned out the bank is closed for Presidents Day, so my pocket cash right now amounts to $0.23. Will head off to the swimming pool here in a little bit.

My friend from church, his heart monitor showed his heart so slow at night hes at risk of arrest. Hes going to a specialist tomorrow. He thinks he may get a pacemaker. Only 55 years old.

I skipped most of the weekend’s posts, but I did see **boofae** ’s news about Shadow… 🫂
Overall, the jazz festival was great. It was held at a new hotel this year: there were some plusses to the new venue, but unfortunately I think the minuses might actually outweigh them. Meh. But there was some amazing music, as always, and I got to see a _bunch_ of friends – including some who I hadn’t seen since last year’s festival. I also got to meet/hang out with the two women who run the vocal jazz conference I’ll be going to in June: they’re both awesome, so that was nice (and a relief! LOL!). All of that said, though, my days of staying at the festival/in the hotel all weekend – and staying up past midnight both Friday and Saturday nights – might be at an end: my internal clock was still on “you have a day job” time, meaning I was waking up before 7am no matter when I’d fallen asleep, so I was very tired on Saturday and _exhausted_ yesterday. I’ve been doing this for 10+ years, but the older I get the harder it is/longer it takes to recover. Plus, whenever I stay at a hotel I tend to eat like crap and at weird times: between that and the tiredness, I didn’t feel well most of yesterday. I actually wound up leaving a little earlier than planned (partway through the last main stage act I wanted to see), because suddenly I just did not feel well at _all_ and really needed to go home. Happily, I’d already packed and on a Sunday night it was only a 20-minute drive: I was home by 9:45pm. It took longer to unpack than to get home! LOL!
I’m extra glad that I took today off (it’s a federal holiday but not a company holiday), because I didn’t sleep enough/well last night, either: a piece of siding came loose during yesterday’s 60-mph winds, below my bedroom window – right behind the head of the bed – and it makes a _racket_ when it blows in the wind! It woke me up a couple of times. I’ve taken a picture and emailed my property manager, but who knows how long it will take him to send someone out here to fasten it back down. It’s pretty gusty again today, but I really hope the winds die down tonight so maybe I can get a good night’s sleep for the first time since Thursday. I definitely foresee a post-lunch nap in my future today. 😁
I needed to pick Bailey up from the vet by 8am to avoid being charged for another day of boarding, so I hauled myself out of bed at a little after 7 and got there on time. I was so happy to see her…but not as happy as she was to be home! She was in docile/dopey mode when we left the vet and on the ride home, but as soon as she got out of the car my goodness: she ran up to the front door, then tore around the house, tore around the back yard, and tore around the house some more! 😃 Because of her arthritis and hind legs muscle weakness she doesn’t run like a normal dog anymore: she kind of hops like a bunny, but faster. It’s adorable. It was really great to see her so happy and energetic. After eating some breakfast she finally settled down and fell asleep, and I expect that to be her state for the rest of the day. This was my first time using the vet vs Dogtopia for boarding: she’s definitely none the worse for wear, so I’ll use the vet again in June.
After I brought Bailey home, I went to the grocery store. I didn’t need much: mostly just bananas and dog food. My only other chore for the day is to eventually do my laundry, but that _could_ wait for tomorrow if I want it to. We’ll see how I feel after lunch and a nap. 🙂
I’ll be off work again on Thursday: my dad is having outpatient trigger finger surgery in Baltimore, and I’ll be driving up there to take him. There’s a chance of snow on Wednesday night into Thursday, but no one can agree on the likelihood or the expected accumulation total: for a day or so over the weekend it started looking like a possible actual Snow Event, but now the weather folks are back to “it might not even happen.” I have a RWD car: I’m alright in a _little_ snow, but not much. Luckily, I live very close to I-495 and my dad’s place is equally close to I-695, so there wouldn’t be many side streets to deal with (in my car; it’s too low for my dad to comfortably get in/out of, so we’ll take his Honda CRV to the procedure). But, I really hope it winds up being a nothingburger and I can go to Baltimore/he can have his surgery as planned without any iffy road conditions. 🤞

I have Presidents’ Day off.
I’ve made two loaves of meat, 2 pounds, 6 ounces each. Both are tightly wrapped in cling wrap. Both are in loaf pans. One is in the freezer. Once it’s solidified, I’ll take it out of the pan and put it into a gallon-sized zip-top bag and put it back in the freezer. The other one is in a loaf pan, in the meat drawer of the fridge. Sometime this week I’ll take the plastic off, put some foil on it, and pop it into the oven.
I sprayed the toilet, and I’ll clean it after a bit. I’ve put the dirty dishes into the dish washer (I hate having things in the sink) except for the stand-mixer bowl, mixing paddle, measuring cup, and big spoon I used to mix up the meat loaf. I hand-washed those. The Spousal Unit would like me to get the card out of her trail camera, and look to see if there’s anything interesting on it. It’s 11:30, and I’m thinking about lunch. I picked up some jalapeño chicken snausages from Trader Joe’s. I might try one or two of those.

She and I met in '73 in Memphis going thru avionics training. And we both ended up in VS-41, the now non-existent S-3 squadron in San Diego. Our paths crossed a few times over the years - I visited her when she was in training in Denver, I went to her wedding in Melbourne, FL (It didn’t last long - her husband was emotionally abusive.) And she came to my house once here, and I think I met her another time for lunch, but despite being relatively nearby, we hardly see each other. We’ll try for a boat ride this summer.
Daughter let me know that registration for summer camp for Roxy is open, so I’ll send her the $$ needed to set that up. She enjoyed it last year, plus it’s at the same school that Tobias attends, so convenient!
For now, tho, chillage.

In '73 I was sailing at the San Diego Navy Sailing Club south of the amphib base on North Island. I loved watching those ‘Hoovers’ flying over.

In 73 I was not yet born. That _blessed_ miracle didn’t happen until 1974.
Today has been a sick day. I’m freezing, have a slight fever, an icky cough, and my infamous head zaps have returned. My doctor is calling in a prescription for me. Hopefully it will help!

I think you might have your date wrong:

I reported in July or August of '74 and none of the fleet squadrons had the plane yet - just VS-41. We were responsible for training all the other techs, etc, how to maintain and repair the Viking.

I bought a pair of Gemma II slippers. Although they have a velcro tab, you cannot expand the slipper past a maximum size. That maximum size is too narrow for me. The old Gemmas could be adjusted for a very wide foot, and unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older, my feet have widened.
An azalea that I bought and planted several months ago developed yellow leaves as autumn and winter approached, but those leaves have now fallen off and there’s a lot of new growth. Online research says that some azaleas just get yellow leaves, like a lot of deciduous shrubs, and they’re nothing to worry about. I’m looking forward to its first blooms, which will be pink. I already have a white one in the front yard that blooms vigorously, and it looks nice in is royal blue planter.

Afternoon all. Swam early, ate early, slothing late…at least that’s the plan with the first two missions accomplished. A pretty day to look at though the window, but the temperature never made it past 45F.
_Coppertone_, hope friend is OK and TP is supplied.
**Oopsie** , glad you had a good time and I know what you mean, it took me years to stop waking up at 6am to go to work after I retired. And glad Bailey is happy to be home again. And hope the weather cooperates with your Dad’s procedure (and your travels)

It came back nicely when I was in AZ, I’m not sure how it will be when the ground freezes. Learning new things keeps us young.

That really sucks, I’m sorry. I hope you feel better after a good night’s sleep.
So I’m home. And I’m tired, so this will be short. There were more people than I expected when the speechifying started and EVERY BODY was madmadmad. Most of knew what was going to happen but there were a bunch of people who were really shocked that the government program they or their children depended on was suddenly cut off.
It was cold and my hip hurts and I need kitty cuddles for a while.
I honestly think it was a big waste of time. Today was a government holiday, ain’t none of our elected representatives working on a holiday and I don’t really think they actually care anyhow. But, I was there and I will continue to be there.
Tomorrow my big plans are to go to the gym and then spend a few hours petting critters at the shelter.
I’m too tired to remember how to quote from last week, but **Doggio** , I adore you.
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and bought some cheap hotdogs for the ravens so we could save the expensive offal for ourselves.

It’s also a dog thing. 😛 (the resident canine at my house has figured out that I’m sitting still for a couple of minutes and will bring a toy to play fetch with)

You Canadians are a whole different breed than most of us are. Here in middle Tennessee, we get a text to leave faucets on drip whenever it gets below 32F / 0C.

It’s only 15 miles to my state capitol, but it’s too cold for me. However, I did make sure that my great niece and two of her friends had a gift card to a local BBQ place near the protest.

While the winters weren’t nearly as frigid as what **piper** gets, where I grew up in the land of lake effects snow, it came back year after year.

I got pulled up front to do envelopes right before lunch today. They’ve ~~idiot proofed~~ improved the design of the envelopes to keep the ~~idiots~~ subscribers from taping over the tear strip by eliminating the tear strip. Nope, taking her to Pet Supplies Plus this afternoon and buying balloon booties, a Dog Hide N’ Slide toy, salmon treats and a new squeaky toy was definitely not spoiling her. 🙂
The booties were because when we went out mid-morning for a walk around the block, she became a 3 legged dog about 2/3 of the way around the block. Same thing happened last week when we visited daughter and I took Bella for a walk, although it was a different leg that she picked up. So, the snow and ice are just too cold for her paws even only going around the block. I had texted my daughter that I was going to buy some for her and she suggested the balloon booties. I had never heard of them but the store manager was very helpful in fitting her then helping us find the hide & slide toy and the treats to fill it. I saved $18 as I had a 25% off barcode. Thank you Pet Supplies Plus.

Howdy Y’all! We’ve been home from men’s night for a bit. Needed to chill for a bit before postin’. A good crowd tonight and as usual, we solved all the world’s problems, but no one listens to us so the problems persist. Doc said I’m still alive. Always good to know I am not a zombie yet. Now I shall see what’s up on teh intartoobz for a bit.
