Wow it got dark fast. Was 90+ and humid about a hour ago, now its 85 and thunder bumpers are booming. No rain yet, but it’s obviously on the way. T’was hot at the school today. I hate it when I drip sweat on my glasses. Still no progress on the boat building for the museum project. Grrrr. Committees are so annoying. ---

I think I’ve made a good start on the new phone, but I’m not impressed with the selection of ringtones. It’ll take a bit to get used to the ones I picked - specifically what’s friends/family, what’s businesses, and what’s ignorable. But I did get the widgets for contacts set up and my wallpaper is Tobias and Roxy at the pool! It’s a start! I ordered a cover and it will arrive Wednesday. The rest of today will be dedicated to reading and chillage. Then tomorrow I’ll do some cleaning before the travelers return. The house has been closed and the a/c is on. Dammit. Stoopit heat. ---

I think he’s got several pocket .22s now as well. I do kinda consider it to be an investment. In these unsettled times, quality guns tend to appreciate if they have been properly cared for and ours are. He even has all of the original boxes and documentation which makes a big difference as far as resale is concerned. Because most of the guns were in hard cases, only three were damaged. Dad made a walnut case for his M1 with a hand rubbed finish. I treasure that case as much as the gun. The case was damaged. I know most folks would say that the case did it’s job, but i’m still upset over that. Hubs was in the Auto body repair business for all of our married life and knows the ins and outs of insurance. He also still has friends in the business. He had the car towed to a body shop in the valley who are so backed up that they won’t be able to even do an estimate for a couple of weeks. (They did cheerfully tear it apart to help him find all of his guns, no charge.) We are entitled to a rental car until our car is repaired or officially totaled out, so he will have the rental long enough to come home. The insurance company will squawk about the mileage, but they are required to make us whole and this happened during a highly documented cross country move. She says if he does, she will put Kitty in his room and close the door. He’ll sleep much better with a cat on the bed. They shouldn’t have done that, prolonged noise at those levels can cause hearing damage. Every I’ve had one, they’ve put hearing muffs on me as I slid into the tube. After the first one I also brought my foam earplugs as well. Clicking didn’t work and copy and paste took me to Google photos but I don’t have an account. Lucas does look like a sweetiepie 🙂 So the double posting is because Hubs called. The house is empty and he lost his good charging cords with the car. He has settled down a whole lot, the poor guy was so frustrated last night. So, today started out embarrassing. I gathered up proof of residency (deed and two letters addressed to me) and went to the library. The nice library lady said she couldn’t give me one because they were out of cards and weren’t sure when they would get more. She suggested that when I next went into Logan (the next town over), I get a card there because I could use it for both libraries. She also said that I didn’t need to bother bringing all that stuff, they would have just had me fill out a form cause nobody lies about living in Logan county. I asked if I could use a computer to print out a needlepoint pattern without a card and she said yes, so as I was waiting for the comp to wake up, I remembered that I only had a few dollars cash so I asked if they took plastic. No, no they didn’t. Well dang, I knew I was going to need at least three more dollars but also knew that I had a handful of quarters in the car, so knew I could pay for my patterns. I told the library lady that I was going to go out and dig through my console for the other 3 dollars I was going to need, went out, grabbed the change and came back to the comp to see a 20 dollar bill sitting on the keyboard. The library lady told me that it had come from the other lady on the computers. She knew that I was just printing patterns, and choose to make such a kind gesture. I asked the library lady if she knew who the lady was and she lied (badly) to me which was disappointing because I need some stitching buddies. I don’t think anyone who wasn’t a stitcher would donate for pattern printing. I did some grocery shopping and saw frozen crab cakes as well as frozen lobsta cakes. I think I’m going to like it here a whole lot. And now Hubs on the phone again. Moving just sucks. ---

Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. We had a good crowd and much merriment ensued. As usual, we solved all the world’s problems, but alas, no one ever listens to us, so the problems go on and on. Such is life, I reckon. There are a buncha posts since this mornin’, but I am not up to readin’ or answerin’ at the moment as da bear has a slight buzz. I shall endeavor to do so tomorrow. Nelson has been known to give my tablet a lick when it’s claiming too much of my attention, but licks are nothing compared to some of the insurance claim phones with teeth marks I’ve seen come through our facility. Irked, came home (in 97F temps, no less), walked Nelson, made him a scrambled aig (he’s not eating a lot of kibble. Having done the smooshed while inside, the next two totaled Civics didn’t bother me that much. The smooshed while inside one (the first late, lamented Civic) gave me the TBI which comes with a side order of amnesia so I don’t remember anything for about 36 hours after the smoosh. I do remember the accident investigator a week later telling me “that car gave its life for you”. The (still) infuriating thing is the moron who rear-ended me on the interstate on Christmas Eve threw his scuffed plastic bumper cover to the side of the road and drove on home to enjoy Christmas in Colorado, probably to never think of what he’d done again. He was driving a humongous Tahoe and was stupid enough to tell the police officer “my dog was in the back seat whimpering and I just turned around to give her a drink of water”. Probably 20 exits within 5 miles and he has to give his dog water at 65 miles an hour in a snow storm. I can only hope the reckless driving citation cost him points on his drivers license and I’m darn sure the $80,000 of my medical expenses his insurance had to pay is going to jack his insurance up for a decade. When the settlement check for the totaled Civic came I bought a two years younger Civic to replace it. A sweet Civic sport, pearl white hatchback. 3 weeks later, parked in front of my house, totaled in the middle of the night before I even had registered it-still had the paper plates. I was fast asleep in my bed, no doubt with a Siamese snuggled under the covers. 4 years later the same thing happens. Nice, very low mileage crimson pearl Civic Lx sedan totaled at 9:30 in the morning, parked in the same spot. I’m inside in my bathrobe drinking my sacred cup of coffee. A kind neighbor heard the crash and knocked on my door while the young driver was still standing dazed in the street. Very rattled young man told the police officer “my phone fell on the floor, I just looked down for a split second to pick it up”. His mother who owned the car and paid the insurance was not amused when she was called to the scene to show proof of insurance. I wouldn’t want to be paying his insurance til he’s 25 either. I finally got the message and got a vintage, venerable but much higher mileage Suburu Outback. Why tempt Fate? Still have to park it in the same spot though. I think some neighbors may be running book on how long this one stays unsmooshed. Im 0 for 3 with Hondas. So glad hubs has your friend to take such good care of him. A bedroom with a kitty companion is right up there with deluxe resort. About now I’d be thinking of sending her a piece of your beautiful needlework and some cookies as a thank you. ---

Distracted drivers kill and maim on a daily basis. It’s horrible. I really do wish that they got more than a hand slap when they have maimed or killed someone. I won’t talk to anyone if I know that they are on their phone. I don’t care if it is hands free, it is still a distraction. She wanted to make it so girly that her husband wouldn’t come in, much less try to store more drums in it. Lace and satin and silk and pink and so girly. Didn’t work, so she took my advice and bought a bunch of fake flowers and decorated the drums all girly too. That worked, no more drums in her room. (I had to do that with the Harley in the living room, it’s amazing how well it works and so funny about how offended they get.) ---

Today I had an appointment with the retinal doc. I could read almost all of the 20/20 line! The tech was amazed. I used to loathe eye charts. Now I love 'em! My eye pressure was good, so I asked the doc if I could just use one glaucoma med instead of two. Nope. Oh, well, I can see! Actually, they dilated my eyes, so the walk/bus ride home were kind often dicey, but I made it. 6.5 miles. doggio, as soon as I saw the thread title, I knew who’d penned it. Nice work! Back when my library still had overdue fines I used to pay off fines so a kid standing at the check out could go home with the books so eagerly clutched in his or her hand. I plead brain fatigue. I spent 90 minutes at my local library teaching my refugee literacy class. You haven’t lived til you try to explain the Juneteenth holiday to a 20 year fresh from the Ukraine. In small words. First of course you have explain slavery and the Civil War and US Army generals making proclamations in the Texas Territory before you can even get to Juneteenth, much less the Fourth of July. She was a good sport about it and I used lots of historical pictures. ---

The reason it is stone and brick is because the husband backed his RV through a bedroom wall. Evening all. Dinner was provided by Culver’s tonight, I do love their crinkle-cut fries, and has been assimilated. Still 87F outside at 7pm, so activity will be limited. Did do my 1.5 miles of swimming and picked up some dry cleaning, so been semi-responsible. Scale at the gym says I am at 218.2, a gain of about 1.4 lbs. from last week, guess despite all the refereeing I over-snacked at night there (stopping at 5 guys didn’t help the old calorie counter either). I drive a Dodge Durango, so as long as I avoid 18-wheelers, I don’t think I’ll get crushed (but not planning on testing that anytime soon…). And I think I’d like to sit in your ESL class someday, you do such wonderful things. **Wheelie** , safe trip to Illinois. Will be there (Chi-town) in a couple of weeks. **VanGO** , take care and committees are where the minutes are kept and the hours are lost.
