Morning all. Load 2 of probably 3 or maybe 4 loads of laundry is washing while the big load of U’wear is in the dryer. It’s raining outside with occasional claps of thunder, so inside activities are going to be the order of the day. It’s 59F heading to the mid-60’s, so at least it’s not a cold rain.

**Lily** , Hooray for the ebook and upcoming paperback. May many sales be in your future.

**VanGo** , glad you caught the Netflix problem early.

**Boo fae** , productive meetings! Will wonders never cease. Hope Minion proved less troublesome than previously.

**swampy** , the Golden Corral is on my list for this Sunday’s dinner, so already planning for the big meal.

**FCM** , has a 5am bladder alert, but was able to sneak in another 90 minutes of rest. And productivity is over-rated, IMHO. Hope the new glasses work well, I’m debating on seeing the eye doctor this year or waiting another year, right now I have no problems but at 73 it’s probably a good idea to get that yearly review.

**rocky** , that was a pretty full day. I need to do more reading.

**Taters** , tell Buster I sympathize with his dieting, just tell him he needs to run and play more to burn calories… And I understand Mr. Taters frustration, but getting surgery scheduled can be a pain. Hopefully he’ll accept the time frame and practice being patient.

And outside of pecans and apples in my pie (I wonder if anyone has ever made pecan-apple pie?) I am not a fan.

And that’s it for the morning report. Sounds like laundry load #2 is in the rinse cycle so need to get Load #3 staged. Take care all.

Wife’s pathology report was posted in her chart this morning. She hasn’t talked to the doc yet, but it looks like she did, in fact, have cancer. Very early stage, completely confined to the endometrium, no lymphatic involvement, which means it almost certainly went along with her uterus.

It’s one of those results that’s actually really good, but she’s still faced with THAT WORD. It also really highlights how important it is to advocate for yourself when it comes to healthcare. Her old OB kept chalking her symptoms up to perimenopause, and then tried to foist GLP-1s on her (pretty sure the office was sponsored by Ozempic or something). She found a new OB, who said “that’s not normal” and started her on the road to where we are now, which is her not having cancer any more.

How is it between thinking “I should Google that” and walking to my computer I forget what it was I wanted to Google?? Dammit. I was in the dining room getting ready to sew, but I don’t think my query had anything to do with sewing. Dammit.

Before that, I did a quick sort thru a couple of bins in the shop - we’ve got a gazillion assorted cords - power, speaker, Cat5, Cat6, old style printer cables, a bunch of USB and HDMI cables… I hate to toss them but I expect everyone in the free world has a similar collection. Methinks most will go to the electronics recycle bin at the convenience center.

There’s also a basket full of wires that we pulled out of the boat when we were cleaning up the electrical system. I’m thinking much of that is garbage, but I’ll wait for **FCD** to sort with me to decide what goes and what stays.

Still can’t remember what I wanted to look up. Dammit. I wonder if it would help if, when I think of something, I say it aloud.

_&#&#&#&#_

And I was interrupted by a phone call from **FCD** - he was nearly home and wanted me to open the back gate for him. Then we went into the shop and sorted the cables and wires. I came back to the house and repaired a dog toy (drawing blood in the process as I hand stitched), made a sammich, and came to the computer to see my post unfinished. So…

I think I will - after I do a minor alteration on the nav board covers. We’re supposed to get rain this afternoon, and on Moanday, more freekin snow!!! There is no mercy from the weather gods!!!

I knew it was from some cartoon - Google came thru.

I have VSP for my vision insurance and I can get new glasses every year if I need them. My eyes have been degrading steadily, so new specs it is…

I had THAT WORD thrown at me when I was in the Navy by a thoroughly incompetent OBGYN. Scared the crap outta me! Luckily, the tests were reviewed by a better doc who used the other C-word - cyst. I still had to have surgery but I only lost one ovary, and a year-ish later, I was pregnant. Not cause-and-effect, tho. 😉 The point is it’s a terrifying word and I’m glad your wife got a proper doctor.

Still can’t remember what I was going to Google. Guess I’ll tend to my sewing now.

30F upon arising, and heading for 40s. Then another plunge.

French toast and bacon this morning.

I’m determined to get back to doing some cardio on the machines downstairs. I’m putting on unwanted pounds due to inactivity and diet, and the thrice weekly exercise is primarily stretching and light weights. Not good for longevity.

Talked to the daughter yesterday. She’s looking to take on a second job, which is not good. I think she’s finally come to the realization that her life of job-hopping and saving nothing doesn’t bode well for her future. She’s in her 50s now and unless she wants to still be working in her 70s, she needs to get something put away. But two jobs is not going to be a healthy option, I fear. My sons both have 401(k) assets, but she’s always been a live-in-the-moment sorta gal.

There were apparently 15+ call ins today. I ended up loading 100 Top Red. Which was a special kid of FUBAR. The one car that does Crossroads shopping Center had 332 pieces, multiple bulk loads. I bricked up the whole front of the car, and the driver had to wait for the other cars to leave to get into his cab. The middle truck had 42 giant boxes as a bulk load, a suprise non bulk bulk load, and a bunch of huge packages. As usual, the sup went to Dispatch, Dispatch went “meh.” and went back to screen staring, and it took the driver supervisor to get the thing cu, just so we could load the Irregs. And the drivers had a 30min delayed stop. I did my Senior Day shopping, $113, so I guess that was “winning so much” Anyways, hockey’s back tonight.

Evening all.

Sadly the anti-lurgy wishes were ineffective- it’s worse today. Pretty sure this is proper flu. Barely got out of bed, haven’t even managed to have a shower yet and I’m really bored of coughing. It sounds like next door is also sick; we were doing a nice cough chorus this morning.

I’m feeling like a character in a Victorian novel and just reclining on the couch. It would be nice to have some servants to bring me grapes and blancmange and stuff, but alas…

Been there, forgot that. I’ve often walked away from my computer to do something or get something and when I get there 8-10 seconds later I can’t remember. Of course, as soon as I get back to my chair and sit down, I remember clear as a bell…

And all my ‘spare’ cords are in a couple of cabinets above the washer/dryer–out of sight, out of mind.

And great (or elderly) minds think alike…I also remembered Razzleberry from the same Mr. Magoo cartoon!

**Cookie** , as one who does a lot of cardio, also keep track of what you eat. I snack a bit (well, a lot) but try to keep it either healthy (carrots, apples, bananas) or with limited calories (pudding cups with no sugar and 70cal, pretzel bags or pringles at 100 calories). Not that I don’t splurge at times…And work your way into it, try to go to hard and you may decide it’s not worth the labor. I’m in my third year of it and when I started getting 400-500 calories burned was an achievement. Now I do sets (with breaks) that will do 1,500 calories worth of burn. Hope daughter gets serious about saving.

**Pavo** , Good news! ( **lily** said my thoughts better than I could).

**Nut** , take care of yourself.

And those 2, maybe three loads of laundry? The Sixth load is in the dryer right now and should be done about the time I get this missive completed. Everything else is folded or on hangers, so at least I should be able to get through most of March without having a big laundry day. Rain is gone for the moment, but is due back in a few hours for an encore. Otherwise it has been a quiet day.

Yeah, it’s not my first rodeo, but it’s been at least a year since I went for a walk, and probably two years since I’ve been on the NuStep. I hit the latter today for about fifteen minutes, alternating between slow and easy and energetic. Could have gone longer, but I want to see what the physical effects will be.

Two packets of Old Bay Salmon Classic Cake Mix were just delivered. $3.84 per packet. (Free overnight shipping.) I thought about making my own ‘mix’, but I wanted to get a prepackaged version to see what’s in it.

Bread crumbs, whole egg solids, spices (including red pepper, thyme, and basil), onion salt, and paprika. Except for the sugar, which I would exclude, it’s pretty much how I would make it – more cheaply – from scratch. Surprisingly, only 4 g carbohydrates per serving; 20 g per packet. Anyway, we now have enough mix to make ten salmon cakes, and enough salmon (one of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her two, 7.5 ounce tins a while ago) to make five salmon cakes.

I’ll have to just look up the ingredients for Zatarain’s crab cake mix.

ETA:

> Zatarain’s Crab Cake Mix is a New Orleans-style blend primarily composed of bread crumbs (bleached wheat flour, yeast, sugar, salt), dehydrated onion and red bell pepper, garlic, Romano and Parmesan cheeses, spices (including red pepper and turmeric), and flavor enhancers like MSG.

Hey everyone, I can see that you folks have been busy and we have been as well. One of the cousins was in a very bad car accident on Monday and the family has circled the wagon trains.

Hubs and I had a far too familiar discussion, I don’t bring food to occasions like this, I bring paper. Everyone is going to be bringing food and food needs napkins, paper plates, plastic cutlery, plastic cups and paper towels. Then it will require toilet paper. I buy the good stuff too.

Hubs thinks I’m being disrespectful and that I should always bring flowers, food and/or booze. He gets “oh, how pretty” for the flowers. I get “OMG, thank you so much!!!” for the toilet paper. I’ll keep doing it my way, LOL!

So much to our cat-sitter’s delight, we spent Monday night on the other side of the state so she was _forced_ to stay the night so the fuzzbutts didn’t get scared.

Do kids still go goth or is there another name for it now? She’s looking very gothy nowadays and I’m afraid to comment on her looks because she’s in full puberty and I don’t want to make her cry. Or even worse think “oh gross, that old lady thinks I look _coooolll_, I need to change my look.”

I made the mistake of watching the state of the swamp speech last night so thought I should do some retail therapy today. We went to Huntington and I bought a consignment cobalt blue vase for twelve bucks. When I got it home and unpacked it, I found a flyer for the Pilgrim Glass Co. in Huntington. As they encouraged people to come for tours, I looked it up.

I don’t know if you folks are aware of it, but West Virginia glass makers were second to none and during the last half of the twentieth century the glass was prized world wide. Some of the glass companies are still alive and kicking, but this one closed in 2002.

I feel like I know what happened, someone bought the vase as a souvenir and put the flyer in it and then put some plastic flowers in it. Somehow it went, dust, plastic flowers, flyer and all to the consignment store for me to find. I feel like I should put the flyer back in when i fill it with silk flowers.

I did get a bunch of nice yellow silk flowers but the stems need to be cut and I’m not in the mood to dig around in his tool cabinet hoping to find dykes. (diagonal cutters, get your minds out of the gutters!)

Tomorrow I will try to remember to take a picture of the vase with flowers. That will be after I take the pics of the protest signs that our talented @missred sent me last week. They are super clever, and I’m planning on sharing them on Sunday. Thanks again for the signs, people will be looking.

Yanno what is the best part of using a Keurig coffee maker? You don’t risk forgetting how many scoops of coffee you put in the filter when making the first pot of the day. They also have a slotted cup stand that will hold a cup of coffee if you forget the cup before hitting the go button.

I am so happy this was found and treated. I hope she recovers well and painlessly. If she was prescribed pain meds, be sure she takes them on schedule. Our beloved night nurse @BippityBoppityBoo can explain it better than me, but she needs to allow her body to relax and pain tenses one up.

I worked two jobs when I was in my twenties. I had lots of money mostly because I never had time to spend it. When I was in my fifties, I got upset when I was expected to work a few hours late once a week.

Suggest she look at her social security account, even if she was job hopping, she was putting something in. It won’t be enough, social security is never enough, but it does help. Also suggest government work. As you know, it sucks and doesn’t pay that great, but it forces folks to save for retirement which is kinda helpful for the live-in-the-moment sorta folks.

Howdy Y’all! We geezer lunched and achieved nappage upon return to da cave. We sat out on the back porch and fought off scurvy and malaria. I belched and we both got the giggles. We may be growin’ old, but we will never grow up! It’s rained a little today. However the rain up **MetalMouse’s** way will be here in the wee hours and visit most all day tomorrow. It will be a good day to be inside and dry.

**MOOOOOOM** I say cord, but perhaps string would be a better word. Though it needs to be thicker than a string. I want it to be sump’n like leather or nylon and black. I could go with a chain but it would need to be sllvery or black, but not flashy. I missed out on the gay style gene, so this stuff confuzzles me.

**Taters** it is frustratin’ to schedule a surgery date that feels so far away. However, if Mr. Taters feels good about and has confidence in that doctor the wait is worth it.

**Pavo** glad wife found an OBGYN who took things seriously. Hope there will be no further Big C issues for her. I see that no further treatment is needed. **HUZZAH!!!**

**Nuts** so sorry you’re still sick. Hope you feel better soonest. I agree that there should be servants to bring you soup and adult medicinal remedies.

**ETA:** **JtC** we are of a similar mindset when it comes to paper products. I don’t know how many times I have been told how grateful folks were that I thought of that. Food usually comes aplenty, but that stuff doesn’t. Hope the cousin wasn’t hurt too bad and recovers quickly.

**swampy** - is there a boat stuff store near you? They usually carry all kinds of cords in various colors, especially if they stock sailboat supplies. West Marine is a good one. If you tell me what color you want, I can send you a couple 3 feet. In fact, I think we have some in black in the shop.

Wish that occurred to me earlier.

Same. Terlit paper isn’t glamorous but it is always needed. Plus, it won’t go bad if it gets left in the hall for hours because the bathroom is always busy.

If **Moooom** can’t come up with a cord that you want, share your requirements. I have a lot of thread and can make something for you if needed.

If you just want a long skinny strip of black leather, go to a good shoe store and look at boot laces. Many folks like leather laces for their knee high hiking boots.

So I’m back to share the gossip. Harry was just over and says that the across the street neighbor is so fed up that he is going to have half of the part of his driveway that freezes dug up and then add heaters before re-pouring the concrete. He’s only doing half because he needs to be able to drive down the other side while the work is going on, it is the only way out. It will only be about three car lengths but that’s still going to be pretty pricey.

We love sitting back with a cold one and watching people work, I’m looking forward to the spring!
