When you’re talking with little kids about little kid stuff that’s totally normal phrasing even when you’re 20. When you find yourself saying “when I was your age …” to 40+yos _then_ you’ll be old. ---

I recently turned 52, but have been using JIMINY CRICKETS! for quite a while. I’ve started using Jeepers! the last couple of years. To be fair, though, I’m a fan of old timey exclamations and curse words. Consarnit! ---

I’m pretty much a perpetual 10 year old. Always feel like a smugly successful imposter playing at grownup. My ears aren’t, though. To be fair, neither are my eyes, but that doesn’t seem to have resulted in discernable behavioral changes. I used to blast my rock and classical. Big-ass speakers plugged into my amp, which in turn connects to my computer as audio source. Not all day long but several sessions of a couple hours each, at the kind of volume that can draw neighborly ire or police presence on occasion. I now go months and months with only the 10-inch computer speakers plugged in. ---

I hear you. The hubster and I played classic rock in bar bands for years. We were loud. I can’t even imagine doing that now. Noise (other than my trusty box fan that masks the tinnitus from the rock etc. etc.) drives me up the wall. Loud kids, barking dogs, even the radio in the car, I can’t take any of it. ---

I’m not sure it counts as an old-personism, since I got it from an animated snake on Sesame Street. But I will occasionally say “Let’s scratch gravel and mosey.” An animated snake wearing a cowboy hat. ---

Funny you mention a DAC. I’ve taken to using one for watching TV. Sure I have a sound bar but it seems I miss lots of sound subtleties unless I turn the volume much too high. I’ve just plugged a DAC ( which sports a volume control knob ) into the sound port of of my TV, then a high quality headphone set into my DAC. It miraculously “restores” what I’ve been missing. 😀 Of course it’s all just a band-aid for my deteriorating hearing, so the secret is not to turn the volume up too loud so as to unwittingly cause more damage. ---
