(“[Name] where are you? Can you get that phone?” Her job was to answer the phone and take orders. Not to stand around the break table stuffing her face.) Ugh, too cranky! Afternoon all. Shopping took a bit longer than expected but the list is completed and everything is put away. Mowage will commence in a short while and then we’ll see if swimming is advised. Might skip it as Friday is a low-calorie intake day and between pushing a shopping cart in three stores and coaching soccer, I’ll get at least some exercise. Today’s plans include borrowing Ms. Dog for a walk. I can’t go down to Capital Swamp (OK, Lake, but it’s getting swampier as they let it go back to an estuary) without her, as I feel guilty enjoying the ducks by myself. I’ll also call my eldest sister, as we talk Mondays and Fridays–and sometimes in between, if she runs into a problem of some kind. **Shoe** , your theory makes the most sense, though I don’t know what they did with the cameras and lighting equipment when the maintenance guy was up there. Maybe it was low, LOW budget or a photoshoot for OnlyFans. Imagine the fun I could have had if I’d known, pounding on the door and yelling, “Police vice squad! Come out with your hands up!” before sneaking back down the stairs. I see from the replies that I need to clarify, as the upstairs apartment has changed tenants a few times recently. First there were The Boys, a quiet oldish couple who had one huge, loud, knock-down fight annually. They moved out when rents increased. Tenants #2 were the couple with the little kids who ran nonstop in cement shoes for hours until about 1 a.m.. They left in a huff and without notice when management told them to knock it off. Tenants #3 were the porn stars–no kids, no arguments, just those 6-inch heels clomping across the floor for a little while. **wordy** , my fingers are crossed for overlygirl! He said he drove around at 4 p.m., and the school parking lots were empty, so teachers clearly had it easy. I was ticked. My car was parked on the street and had been since 6:30 a.m.. ALL the faculty parked on the street at the HS because the kids parked in the lot, and we liked our cars sans dents. Also, people went to take their kids to soccer practice, where they sat in their cars and graded papers. The sweet irony was that he got fired as Assistant DA shortly thereafter. I like to think it was because he was surveying parking lots instead of working at his desk. Anyway, **Taters** , glad I don’t have your job! It sounds exhausting. **JtC** , wow, that’s a gorgeous cat who really must have been the best cat in the world! Is there a story behind that name? **FCM** , I got a kick out of your Stones dream. _Started Typing: 2:36 PM ET Clicked Reply: 4:27 PM ET_ 16 years ago today, an ex and I walked into a PetSmart – after learning that a puppy we’d seen on Petfinder would be at a local rescue’s adoption event – and left with a 9-pound, 3-month-old ball of fur wearing a tiny blue collar with a tag that said Bailey. 🐕 The ex already had a dog, so this one would be “mine”: I’d had a different name picked out but he was never crazy about it, and when we saw the Petfinder listing we both liked “Bailey” better. Seven months later, the relationship ended: thankfully/luckily the puppy had bonded with me way more than with the ex, and when I moved out I took her with me. Yay! The installer now has 3-5 business days to contact me and schedule the installation. The whole shebang came to under $600, which is less than I expected; the labor costs aren’t bad at _all_. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have bothered asking my property manager about having his brother do the installation\* and I would have had it by now…ah, well. At least it seems like having the new door before Thanksgiving won’t be an issue. 🤞 (\*Guess who texted me at 10:30 this morning?! “Are you home? Can I come measure the door?” NOPE. 🙄 ) Yesterday’s in-person work event went well – the presentations and discussions were interesting, it was good to see some folks in person and meet others for the first time, the food was yummy, etc. – but it was a _long_ day: I left the house at 7:45am, and got home about 11 hours later (including a quick stop at the grocery store, which I passed on the way). Combined with working in the office on Wednesday, and Tuesday evening’s crappy sleep, it’s been kind of a long week: I’m glad to be working from home again today, _really_ glad it’s Friday, and even _more_ glad that all three of today’s meetings were either cancelled or rescheduled. I switched as many things as I could to PayPal, and doing that wound up being _super_ helpful after the second compromise. Also, as mentioned earlier, I made notes about what payment method (credit card, debit card, PayPal, etc.) is associated with every recurring/regular charge and when that charge usually hits. My kitchen was remodeled shortly before I moved in 10 years ago, and the laundry room addition was built at the same time, and I will _never_ understand why my property manager went with fluorescent lighting in both rooms. I hardly ever turn the laundry room lights on because there’s a window and I’m not usually in there at night, and I don’t turn the kitchen lights on much more often, but I had to replace a few tubes a couple of years ago and it was not fun. In fact I still have all of the old tubes in the laundry room, up on a shelf, because I can’t be bothered to bring them to the dump – all of 12-13 miles away – that will accept them. Since I walk in Spain most years these days, my Spanish is fresher, though the sentence that works best to explain my relative command of it is “Yo hablo Español como un perro” (I speak Spanish like a dog). Yeah, my French – which I’d studied off and on since the 6th grade but, at best, was about as good as a toddler’s – has gone _way_ downhill. I went to Paris with friends back in 2017 and spent time with Duolingo beforehand, brushing up. Once there, I was amazed at how many basic words and phrases came back to me relatively quickly. And my French would get better after I’d had a beer or two, because I got less self-conscious about it. Heh. I can’t speak for Lily, but the main reason I learned Japanese and later Spanglish is food. While I was stationed in Okinawa, I could eat on base or I could eat off base. If I went to the places all of the other Longnoses went, I would basically get the same food, with waitstaff that spoke English. If I wanted something different…the stuff that the locals ate, I wanted to be able to ask what the food was and if I could please have a fork. The Okinawa I experienced is not what tourists see in Japan today. (I was there when Okinawa was officially handed over to Japan and they changed from driving on the right side of the road to the left side of the road like they did it in Japan.) English was not that common and many people still had a lot of resentment towards America. Not only did I need to be able to talk food to people, I also needed to know what people were saying around me. Of course I learned Spanglish to order food in AZ and CA, but I used it often as a food stamp worker. The parents might not be qualified due to citizenship, but their babies were Americans and were going to grow up and enter the workforce in America. He left before I got up and tried to be quiet. I would have blissfully slept until my normal time but GG and Jolene started whining and yammering. At one point, Jolene ran across my pillow and hooked a claw inside my ear. I liked it much better before GG got door knobs figured out. I was all headachey so didn’t feel like taking his car to the gym. When he got home, I fed him lunch and then went back out and reset everything AGAIN and went to they gym and soaked my head for an hour. They are setting up for a thing tomorrow, not sure what, but I am pretty sure I’m not going to want to deal with it so I’m glad I went today. I took 3 years of French in high school. One time at a job 2 beautiful French girls walk in, speaking in French, and the only thing by brain could put together was _Je suis un chien_(I am a dog).
