Old-School D&Ders: Favorite Dragon Mag Serial Comic Strips!

“Charisma Roll”. I remember it! Pleased to meet you, sir.

I used to love Yamara. It kinda lost steam towards the end, though. It restarted online only many years later, but unfortunately didn’t last long. At least I can read the old strips again there!

Yamara and Snarfquest were ones I had in mind, too.

Dude, it was funny. Ignore the rules layers.

I have managed not to play with those sort of dudes- at least not for more than a game or two.

I’m sure there were letters that didn’t make “Chain Mail” (because the letter-writers rolled a 3 for Humor, Sense of) about how it should have been a Comeliness roll.

Generally, all my long-term games have been with much less obnoxious players. But I knew examples of all the stereotypes back when I was living in the dorms, abuzz with gamers back in my day. But reasonable players are much harder to make fun of. Table Titans is mostly about one group of reasonable players, but the story is mostly about what happens in the game, not what happens outside of it.

Rules lawyering is the SDMB’s official pastime! But…gracias!

I loved Yamara, too. I really wanted to play a wizard who researched the spell, “Transmute Flesh to Plush”.

The Hundred Classic Episodes of Yamara

Um, actually, the official pastime of the SDMB is demanding more pictures of cats. It was almost rules lawyering, but it lost in the final run-off vote.

I have it as well… I’m actually overdue for a reread!

Apparently he did a follow on version as well in the past year or so. I’ve not yet found how to order one, but I did find a kickstart campaign from early 2014. If I had known, I’d have gotten in and scored a copy early!

Oh yes, and meanwhile: “Robinson’s War” was an OK story and so was “Snarfquest” (shame it fell apart in the sequel story, Elmore had the occasional teaser in later issues that the characters were still out there, but it never came back; the original story had a pretty good ending); but “Wormy” was in a league of its own on account of Trampier’s amazing artwork.

For me it can only be Phil and Dixie.

That said, Order of the Stick ran in Dragon for a while too, although I don’t think it hit its stride until the webcomic arcs kicked in.

Phil & Dixie, Fineous, & Yamara.

For those of us who would like something new in this vein, Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic.

Also, for the Horror Fan, The Deadlys.

Snarfquest & KODT for me… Man, I miss those!
