_The following preview has been approved for all mafia players and viewers_.

**COMING SOON**

(go play that YouTube link with the godfather music now)
:exterior day:

Storyteller0910 is playing in his garden with his grandchild. It’s a warm quiet day and the tomato plants are a heavy with ripe fruit.

It has been nearly, but not quite, a decade since Story orchestrated the victory over the town of Doperville that have his Werewolf clan control over the organized crime in in this part of the country. He was not simply a Mafia Don, he was the Godfather.

The last few years have been a time of peace. The human mafia bent to his will. The cult and the masonic orders had all fallen in line. There wasn’t a beat cop or detective in the force that didn’t owe him a favor. He was unstoppable.

Story leans back in his garden chair as the sound of his grandson’s laughter breaks his revere. He calls his grandson to him and hugs him. Tells him he loves him, and does he want to see a trick? Story takes a bit of an orange slice and sticks it in his cheeks. “I’m a Vampire, bleh” he says to his grandson. They run around the tomato garden playing chase. Finally the deamons that had chased him since he was first turned into a Werewolf we were in his past. He ran the mafia he had a family. Life was good.

Suddenly, a pain stabs him in the chest, and then, just as suddenly, Storyteller0910 is dead. It wasn’t a vigilante or serial killer who felled him. He wasn’t finally lynched. He died happily in his garden, brought down by old age and a bad heart.

:fade out :

:Church bells:

It’s Storyteller0910’s funeral. His son, the new Alpha of the pack (the son disliked his father turning his back on their proud Werewolf heritage and would not be calling himself Godfather,) sits with his senior advisor who some would say bore a striking resemblance to a young Robert Duval. The Beta wolf leans over and asks the son, as they watch the procession of mourners,

“Do you know who is coming after us?”

The alpha replied, "No, but I know they are coming. Members of the town anti crime groups, cops, the cultists, the masons, the new Godfather from Ceciltown, probably even Clemenza. Let them come. This is our town still. Just because my father is dead doesn’t mean I will allow anyone to take control back. Let them all come. Or not. If they are smart they will leave us the hell alone. "

“I hear that they have reformed the old Lynch mobs, but have changed the laws so that it will be harder for us to buy off voters.” says the beta, a tremble of fear in his voice.

"Tommy, don’t be afraid. It’s a new world and a lot has changed since my father’s Day in the sun. But, we have some new tricks too. Some levers we can pull. More than anything I will protect the pack. "
:fade to black :
\*\*

COMING JANUARY 2017.
\*\*
\*Starring: probably about 55 players so. I won’t list them all.
\*
A new mafia game.

**Mafia: this time with werewolves**.

Go for it. Just remember we will start a new thread for the actual game in a couple of weeks so we will need to repost them there.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

**Basic Setup**

[ol]
[li]This is a semi-open setup. All of the Town and Scum roles and win conditions will be public knowledge at the beginning of the game. Importantly, there are no secret or hidden elements to any Town or Scum role.[/li][li]All third party roles are closed. However, the rules shown here are absolute in all cases; no hidden element will contradict or supersede anything explicitly stated in the rules.[/li][li]Some third party players may have exclusive win conditions (ie, win conditions that preclude Town and/or Scum wins), while others may be nonexclusive (that is, able to win with any side).[/li][li]No recruitment or changes of alignment will occur at any time.[/li][/ol]

\*\*Posting Rules
\*\*[ol]
[li]There are no post restrictions. As long as you are alive, you may post whatever you like, wherever you like, whenever you like. You may quote your role PM, and any PM sent to you by the moderators. You may discuss strategy by Day or by Night. If you have access to outside boards, you may post to them on any subject at any time. If someone claims a post restriction of any kind, they are lying; lynch them.[/li][li]PLEASE NOTE: You are also permitted to edit your posts. Other players may frown upon a choice to do so, but the Moderators will not intervene in any case of post editing.[/li][li]No out-of-game communication related to the game is permitted among living players (that is, no PMing or e-mailing or using Facebook or complex codes based on banging together coconuts). [/li][li]In a game of this size, participation will be rigorously policed. Any player who goes a full Day-Night cycles without contributing to the thread will be replaced (if it is before Day Four and a replacement is available) or Mod-killed (if it is after Dawn of Day Four or if no replacement can be found). Obviously, exceptions will be made for unusual circumstances.[/li][/ol]
\*\*Day and Night
\*\*[ol]
[li]Every Day will begin exactly at 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Monday, and end at exactly 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Saturday. Each 5-day Day will be followed by a 2-day Night. The length of the Day and Night are fixed and cannot be shortened by any in-game mechanism. However, the moderators reserve the right to adjust the length of a given Day and/or Night if out of game circumstances warrant.[/li][li]The game includes both Night and Day powers. Orders for actions must be submitted to all three moderators before the 3:00PM EST deadline. Because of the large size of the game, absolutely no late orders will be accepted.[/li][li]Powers will always resolve at the Dusk or Dawn of the Day or Night, respectively, on which they are used; no powers will ever resolve in the middle of a Day or Night.[/li][/ol]
**Voting**
[ol]
[li]Each player may vote for one (and only one - sorry, Pleo!) player to be lynched. This is done using blue text, in the following format: vote NAF1138. [/li][li]A vote may be rescinded using red text, in the following format: unvote Mahaloth.[/li][li]A vote for a player must be preceded by an unvote using the format above (that is, no player may have two active votes at the same time). [/li][li]Again due to the large size and complexity of this game, the moderators will follow the rules related to voting absolutely. No vote or unvote will count unless formatted per the above, and no new vote will be counted without an unvote of any prior vote.[/li][li]There are no public or hidden powers whatsoever that affect the vote count in any way; if there is an apparent irregularity in the vote count, it is the result of moderator error.[/li][li]You may vote “No Lynch.” Please do so using purple text: vote No Lynch. [/ol][/li]\*\*The Lynch
\*\*[ol]
[li]At the conclusion of each Day, the player with the highest total number of votes will be lynched and removed from the game. If “No Lynch” has the highest number of votes, no player will be lynched.[/li][li]In the event of a tie, the moderators will consult [Random.org](http://Random.org). You probably want to avoid this if you can.[/li][li]Death reveals (including for lynch and Night/Day kill victims) will include the role name and alignment of the player. No additional information will be provided.[/li][/ol]
\*\*Multi-Lynch Rules (READ THIS PART CAREFULLY!!!):
\*\*[ol]
[li]It is possible for there to be as many as three (3) lynches in any given Day except for Day One (there can only be a single lynch on Day One). [/li][li]The available number of lynches is equal to the number of Town players who died during the preceding Night, not to exceed 3. So if two Town players are killed on Night One, then two lynches are available on Day Two. However, the number of available lynches can never exceed three under any circumstances.[/li][li]In all cases, the leading vote getter will be lynched as always. If at least 2 lynches are available on a given Day, the second-leading vote getter will also be lynched if (s)he has received more than 34% of the available votes. If at least 3 lynches are available on a given Day, the third-leading vote getter will be lynched if: (1) the second-leading vote getter is lynched; AND (2) the third-leading vote getting receives more than 10% of the available votes. [/li][li]PLEASE NOTE: If “No Lynch” is the leading vote-getter for any given Day, then no player will be lynched, even if more than 1 lynch is available and one or more players exceeds the threshold shown above.[/li][/ol]
\*\*Win Conditions
\*\*Win conditions will be checked in the following order every Dawn and every Dusk:
[ol]
[li]Town Wins! if all 14 Scum players are dead.[/li][li]Mafia Wins! if the total number of living Mafia is greater than or equal to 50% of the total population AND greater than the number of living Wolves.[/li][li]Wolves Win! if the total number of living Wolves is greater than or equal to 50% of the total population AND greater than the number of living Mafia.[/li][li]Third party win conditions are checked after checking all three of the above. Thus, a Town win supersedes an exclusive third party win even if both occur simultaneously.[/li][/ol]

Now that the rules have been posted, LET THE NITPICKING BEGIN! 😃

There are a couple items that I’d like clarification on, if you would be so kind…

> [li]It is possible for there to be as many as three (3) lynches in any given Day except for Day One (there can only be a single lynch on Day One). Clarification on “more than 34% of the available votes”:

Suppose that on Day 2 there are 51 players alive in the game, with 3 players having been lynched on Night 1, and the voting is as follows:

20 votes: Player 1
17 votes: Player 2
13 votes: Player 3

with 1 player not voting.

In this case, Player 1 is lynched, per Rule 1. Player 2 receives exactly 34% of the votes _cast_…is he lynched?

Suppose that instead of the above count, the voting was:

20 votes: Player 1
17 votes: Player 2
12 votes: Player 3

with 2 players not voting.

In this case, Player 2 would have received 34.7% of votes _cast_, but only 33.3% of \*potential \*votes, because of the abstentions. Who is lynched?

Here you list three factions (Town, Mafia, and Wolves), and “Third party”. For this game, should “third-party” really be “fourth-party”?

Abstention is the same as voting no lynch. Percentages are based on available votes not cast votes.

Nope. Third party is simply mafia lingo for" other". “other” is boring.

Every Day will begin exactly at 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Monday, and end at exactly 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Saturday. Each 5-day Day will be followed by a 2-day Night. The length of the Day and Night are fixed and cannot be shortened by any in-game mechanism. Your timing will make it very difficult for players with limited internet on the weekend who also have Night powers or want to discuss matters on a secret board at Night. For myself in particular, I’ll typically have only a few hours on Monday morning (being in California) before the Dawn deadline hits. Is it possible to shift the Night?

Also, do you want to explain contingent power use? For example, knowing I’ll be gone the whole weekend with limited time on Monday morning, can I give a Night order on Friday thusly: “If Alice or Bob is lynched, I investigate Charlene; otherwise I kill David.”?
Each player may vote for one (and only one - sorry, Pleo!) player to be lynched. This is done using blue text, in the following format: vote NAF1138.

No vote or unvote will count unless formatted per the above, and no new vote will be counted without an unvote of any prior vote.[/li]
Just admit it, you’re too lazy to do multi-votes. 😃

Which of these would you count as a valid vote?

1. **vote NAF1138**
2. vote **NAF1138**
3. vote NAF

> [@storyteller0910](#):

> Death reveals (including for lynch and Night/Day kill victims) will include the role name and alignment of the player. No additional information will be provided.

Is moderator-provided information of a dead player guaranteed to be correct (but possibly incomplete)?

On a similar note, is mod-provided info to a player via PM always correct (if possibly incomplete)? Or is there the possibility that another player’s power could interfere (for example, via redirection or bamboozlement of an investigation power, or a Miller-type role)?

Is non-lynch info publicly posted by the moderator about a living player guaranteed to be correct?

Can moderator-posted game “color” contain useful information and/or hints about the game?

So, if all remaining players are killed in one Day or Night, Town wins! As a side effect of that, you may want to explicitly state that mod-killed players automatically lose. (Just to prevent the gambit of lynching the first player to post on Night-Day cycle, so that Town wins when everyone gets mod-killed for non-participation.)

For myself in particular, I’ll typically have only a few hours on Monday morning (being in California) before the Dawn deadline hits. Is it possible to shift the Night?

I am fine shifting the Night a further 24 hours if there are no objections. It’s essentially arbitrary anyway.

I think I’m OK with this.

Multi-votes with 55 players would mean I’ll become a schizophrenic, so yes, you are correct.

All of them. Just make it blue.

Guaranteed to be correct and complete, in terms of information provided. You’ll get the role name and alignment, which will always be accurate. You will not, for example, get a description of the power or win condition of a dead third party player.

Such things are possible, but since the rules are mostly open you’ll see them coming.

I suppose so, though I am having trouble imagining what sort of thing we might post that fits this description.

Yes.

Good point. We will do this.

We will take timing under advisement but I make no promises of alterations. I promise we will discuss everything in the quote.

Yes, multi vote it nuts. Even with three of us. I know I don’t want to work that hard.

Personally, I would count all of the above as votes. I would prefer if votes were bold, but bold or not will not invalidate a vote if it’s the right color unless Story or Mahaloth has a script that I don’t know about which will get screwed up. As far as typing out full names or shortened versions… You place you vote you takes your chances. We are not going to intentionally screw with you, but don’t make it hard to count your vote…please.

We will not intentionally lie. We will only post things we want you to know but it will always be true as of when the post is written. We are human but we aren’t out to mess with you.

Stop trying to break the game!

Edit: phew first mod cross post and we didn’t contradict each other. So far so good.

So, if someone votes for Prof. Periwinkle, you’ll count it against me, right?

It’s not breaking the game if you designed it that way. 😉

But seriously, if you don’t want Town to win when everyone is dead, build the game so they won’t. Note that Mafia and Wolves cannot win if everyone is dead, because they must have more living players than the other scum faction.

Also note, that an Exclusive Third Party would still lose even if they’re the only living player, because their victory condition is considered last. So you may also make it difficult for a Town player to mod-suicide to prevent someone else from winning, even at the cost of themselves losing. (That is, **Alice** the last Townie, may decide to get themself mod-killed so that Town wins (except for **Alice** ) and **Bob** the Exclusive Third Party loses.)

It might seem strange to focus on edge cases, but if the game is designed well it should get to the point of only a handful of players remaining. And that is only a short step from weird gambits to win (or stop others from winning).

Oh, forgot to add that my focus is on mod-killing because that is an easy way for players to affect the game state. You also need to consider other methods. For example, if there’s no Town and one each of Mafia, Wolf and Exclusive Third-Party (X3P), do you want the Mafia and Wolf to be able to cross-kill and give the win to Town?
