Old Songs that under today's rules infringed on copyright.

So, right after I posted the thing about “Love Has No Pride” and “At This Moment” , I decided to exercise my Google-Fu and see if anyone else had ever noticed the similarities.

I knew there was nothing obvious before I posted, but I played with the search terms a bit and looked at the results past the first pages. I finally see a reference in a google groups thread. So I scroll down and I find the post. Cool, I think. Someone else has noticed the similarity. And that person happens to go by my first name ( my real one, not Ann).
Then I’m thinking - this person even used similar phrasing , she said they sounded an awful lot alike. Then I’m , wait – this person used an unrelated song lyric as a sig line. And it’s the same lyric I used about a million years ago. Well not a million, 12 to 15 to be exact.

I managed to google an old alt.fan.cecil-adams thread and found a post I wrote a long time ago. So I guess I really am the only one who noticed the similarity.

Here’s a link to the thread, they have some interesting ones.

John Fogerty was actually sued for plagiarizing himself (Someone else owned the CCR catalogue). Thank goodness Louis Jordan was dead by that point; he had at least three hits with exactly the same melody back in the 40s.

Fogerty won that lawsuit, BTW, but had the devil’s own time collecting his legal fees back.
