Well, of course I jinxed myself. After over an hour of trying and cursing, I was able to check in. However, despite 7 attempts, I could NOT check a bag. It just kept saying “Processing” ad infinitum. I called Alaska Airlines. “The estimated hold time is three hours and twenty-seven minutes.” What?! I intend to be in bed and asleep by then, since I’m getting up early. So I tried chat. 15 minute wait. Then the agent told me to go online to the same place I’d been. I explained this and all I’d tried. He said I should have no trouble. Then he said, “You’re welcome” and I got disconnected. So I’ll have to check bags when I get to the airport. I hope to heaven I have time. SeaTac is not noted for its efficiency. 😠

And a good evening all. Made it back to the gym for some cycling and walking to nowhere, then came home and snacked most of those calories back on. Ah well, weight is still below 200lbs so I guess some extra food is not going to hurt (much). Tomorrow morning i plan on doing my taxes, we’ll see how long it takes to do. That and some indoor soccer is all that is planned for the day.
**VanGO** , yay! on the job news, you were due to catch a break after a miserable week.
**nellie** , if i don’t catch you before you leave, safe journey. And I’ve gotten through Sea-Tac ok, just leave yourself enough time…and then add 45 minutes just to be sure…

My Mom’s side of the family came to the US from what is now Germany in 1848…probably due to the revolution that broke out around then. Dad’s family came from Ireland sometime in the 1880’s, IIRC.
**red** , I’ll see how I do with these and Kroger does carry the Kozy Shack brand, so might give them a try–that tapioca one looks good…
**Cat Glove** , now you have me wanting some butter pecan ice cream. Should have done the tetris before going shopping, bought a pack of frozen pancakes and discovered I still have an almost-full bag in there already (guess it’s pancakes for breakfast tomorrow…)
**JtC** , not so much sentimental as scientific and/or snarky (for example, one of them displays two atoms; one of them is shown as saying 'I lost an electron." The other one responds “are you positive?”…science geek joke). Another shows the Milky way galaxy with a arrow pointing and the caption ‘you are here’. I can find replacements but these still work well enough so not really motivated to do the searching.
**BBBoo** ,and thanks for the suggestions on re-sizing, but I manage well enough wearing them to the gym for walking/cycling (have gotten compliments on some of them by folks reading them) so don’t want to be a bother.
And {{{ }}} for soldiering through with the eye issues.Hoping that all this will be worth it in the end.
**FCM** , hope you beat the weather and find a good deal.
And I was going to watch 5-6 You Tubes but it’s after 10:30pm so maybe 1-2 short ones and the rest will have to wait. Catch y’all tomorrow.

The newspapers I read on-line and can adjust the font size on my iPad (albeit laboriously). Because of my TBI audio books don’t work for me (aural processing disorder) although I can get some fiction from my excellent public library on Libby, which is a free app that offers great ADA accessibility features. I can crank up print size so one sentence fills my 12.9”iPad Pro screen. The catch is that the selection of fiction on Libby is very limited because it is so expensive for the library to buy/lease/license a book to circulate on the app. So new releases take forever to show up and not all authors/publishers will allow their works on Libby. I tried to be proactive before the surgeries and I put several books on hold requests on Libby because I knew that font accessibility would work for me but none of the holds have come through yet. The selection available on Libby is vastly constricted compared to what is available for a Kindle reader, sadly.
I’d love to try a Kindle paperwhite dedicated to reading books-my neuro-optometrist trust recommends them highly but I can’t afford the fees-when I’m cranking along I often read a book a day and 20 or 30 Kindle fees a month I could not afford.
First world problem, I know. At least I’ve got a great public library system a mile away and they go out of their way to keep me in books~there’s even a monthly Mystery/Thriller book club called “Just Desserts” and yes, we have cookies.
I’m so grateful that the week before my first surgery my hold on my favorite author’s new book came in and I got to get a Craig Johnson Longmire novella in just under the wire. Hopefully a C.J. Box or a Louise Penny large type hold will come in by the time the eyes settle down and I get the new fine-tuned eyeglass prescription in 6 weeks. A Paul Doiron or William Kent Kreugher would be fine too.

The near vision sucketh. Fine, precise vision is just not there, but they promise me it will be. Fortunately my distance vision is much better than it had been, especially at night, so I can drive safely, which gets me to my literacy teaching and most importantly my grandma duties daily. My retinal scars are over the fovea on the macula in one eye, nothing to be done there after 45 some years. The Boston medicos said it was a rare flare up of ocular histoplasmosis, which is endemic in the Mississippi River valley where I grew up but seen only in textbooks in Massachusetts. Every opthamalogy intern and resident for 3 states around oohed and ahhed looking in my eye with that cursedly bright light of theirs. I should have sold tickets.
So I’d choose driving vision and being able to teach and Grandma over being able to read, but I’m gonna grumble about it. Especially when they glossed over that big detail in all my prep appts.

**Boo** I have kindle unlimited through the jungle. It gives you unlimited books (well I think you can only have 10 out at a time, but it’s majik online shit, so returning and getting a new one is trivial) to borrow with a fee of $12/month. I’m sending your eyes (and the rest of you) my best wishes. And it does seem like if’n you’ve got an unusual problem that they bring in students to see, you ought to get a break on the cost. Harummph, to them!.

Well, I survived Long Night without a single attack of the blurfs - or even the urps - so that’s good.
But I had to fetch a heavy tub off the lowest shelf, and although I lifted with my knees & all that shit, my back is _murdering_ me right now.
I did some gentle stretches (the “Z sit” where you have one bent leg in front & the other behind was particularly fantastic) but I’m glad I did it at work b.c for one of the first times in my life … I needed help up.
Anyway, I did NOT have time to feed’n’water the ratties, so I better do that before I succumb to the distinct possibility of conking out in my chair again, just cuz I’m so tired & it’s so damn comfy!
At least I remembered to bake them a few “crackers” for their dinner, including one we all forgot about and spectacularly burned to charcoal. (Don’t worry, I’m not feeding them that.) But it made a fun Frisbee.

Sadly my gym doesn’t have a pool, very few of the local ones do unless you’re prepared to pay for the really posh one (close to £100 a month). I’m going to the hairdresser instead, already had an appointment today but also I haven’t been able to wash my hair since Wednesday and now I feel like a right tramp. Also, the salon has massage chairs…

I don’t know how your system works but this sounds like the best solution for everyone. If he’s already in some kind of programme, they should be the ones to work things out for him. Often, if the family intervenes, it’s immediately assumed that they will shoulder the burden of care instead, and the official providers will back off to let you get on with it.
**flyboy** that’s a lovely pic of Goo. 'im indoors sent off a handful of digital snaps/farcebook photos to a printing place as he realised we did not have a physical photo of Whisper in the house. We have the ashes of previous cats (and a pic of one whose body we never found) and photos of them, but nothing for Whisper. I think he plans to make some kind of memorial collage or something too.

Common sense won and I decided not to go to the gym today. Due to a mix-up/lack of adequate communication, I ended up cooking dinner last night ('im indoors should have been doing that) so that’s aggravated my shoulder somewhat. I did have to ask him to lift the big cast iron pan down off the airfryer (where he left it) because that was beyond my capabilities. I made chilli, and there are two leftover portions in the freezer for another day.
I am off to my hairdresser when I’ve finished this post, then I’ll be back home for lunch and then into town for errands. We have decided to eat out tonight on our way to a gig so he’ll be making dinner tomorrow night instead. I’ve had yogurt and honey for breakfast which was very nice, along with a couple of cups of tea. My hairdresser will provide another cuppa 'cos she’s good like that!
Other than that, I’ll be resting and popping pain pills to keep going. Sitting in front of a computer isn’t helping my neck/shoulder problem, so I won’t be doing too much of that either this weekend. Right…time to get myself together and ready to go out and get frou-frou’d.

That is good news. Also for the doing things with other people. A woman at the gym mentioned that she likes not having to wait for the machines, but it’s nice to have someone else in that area, so she was happy to see me there the last two weeks. Good day for frou-frouing - already got done, and even hubby got frou-frou’d.
Got rid of the cans and bottles, stopped at Aldi who didn’t have any special poke loin kit or brie pinwheels, so I had to settle for chicken breasts, brie and sliced bread, plus the weekly items (salad, yogurt). Realized I still have cream cheese and I was thinking about what I could do with that, and came across cream cheese and olive sandwiches. Might be this evening’s snack.
Hubby’s out taking a walk, and I’m chilling on the couch, but I should go get the clothes out of the dryer.
Maybe next time I decide to make scones, I should check whether I have any baking powder. I substituted a combination of baking soda, cream of tartar and corn starch and hubby said he didn’t notice any difference. Whew!

I think I shared a link in the past, but if these shirts have fond memories that you’re not ready to give up, there are companies that will cut out the graphics, stitch them together, then put them on a fleece backing to make you a personalized blanket, if you’re so inclined. My daughter did this with a bunch of her old tshirts and it’s a neat memento.

Wow. Our library uses Libby and they seem to have a really wide selection - certainly of trashy historical novels and, well, lots of other types. Tho I have no idea what the book budget is, and I think it’s a state-wide thing because I can’t imagine our little local library having a lot of $$$.

I don’t know either. But I don’t see people living on the streets around here, so that’s a hopeful sign.
Icky weather is forecast to move in later this morning, but it is staying above freezing, so that’s a good thing. We have till noon to go to the John Deere place - they close early on Saturday. I think we should get one in the 200 series (our dead one was the 100 series) so we’ll look and talk to the sales folk there.
No other plans - icky days are for staying inside. Last night, Daughter told me Tobias had a fever. She also said they hadn’t had their Covid boosters, so I yelled at her, virtually. I’m pretty sure their insurance covers them, but even if not, I’d pay for them myself.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ _YAWN_ ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S. this afternoon. The big item on today’s agenda is to funeralize Jim. A nice guy who would on occasion decide he was mad and stop attendin’ church. Then he would get over it and be back until he got mad again. However, for the past few years he had been very sick and unable to attend often. OYKW didn’t know him well and so will not attend. The funeral is at one p.m. so at least I can take it easy this mornin’ for a bit. We’ll make the sammiches shortly before I leave so maybe they won’t be too soggy by reception time.

The quilt top is seven feet square and the finished quilt, with the border, will be nine feet square. We do not have an indoor surface that large. I may have to wait for spring and lay it out in the yard to get a picture

When my wife was all done with cataract surgery and lasics she still needed reading glasses to see up close. They are not very expensive so they are scattered all over the house.

Good morning.
It’s 33F and cloudy outside right now, although I awoke to snowfall, so everything has a thin coat of white right now. A few more snow showers are projected for this morning. However, in the afternoon, the snow showers will change to rain, and our expected high temperature is around 40F.

I didn’t make it to the maul yesterday because I, too, hate clothes shopping with a passion. I must go today because I’d rather stay home tomorrow, chill, and take care of my usual Sunday laundry.
I am scheduled for a haircut and toning on the 20th, a work day. Usually, I would have worked until 30 minutes before my appointment, gone to the appointment, and returned to work. However, I will now take the whole day off because work is 40 miles from my salon.
