Well, Roxy wasn’t on her bus home… 😮 Happy ending, but let me back up a bit.

On Moanday, Daughter, SIL, and Roxy went to the school to meet her teacher and do all the preliminaries, one of which was giving the teacher her bus number.

Late on Tuesday, SIL got a text saying Roxy’s bus was changed as were pickup and dropoff times. No biggie, right? But you know where this is going. Whoever was in charge of the bus change didn’t tell the teachers. So Mrs. O put Roxy on the bus number that she was originally assigned to.

Daughter came home early and was waiting at the bus stop with me so she could take a pic of Roxy as she descended. The bus was running late - no surprise on the first day. But it finally got there and the kids got off, except for one. The bus started pulling away and Daughter ran after it - only to have the bus driver inform her that Roxy wasn’t aboard.

One of the other moms there dealt with the same thing last year with her kid, so she told Daughter who to call, and after some searching and stuff on the school’s part, they discovered Roxy had been put on the wrong bus and was being returned to the school. Daughter drove over there (it’s about a mile from their house) and had her about 50 minutes later than she was supposed to have gotten to her stop.

Roxy was OK till she saw her mom, then all the stress and stuff hit her and she started crying. Poor kid. Helluva way to start kindergarten. Here’s hoping it goes better tomorrow.

On the plus side, I discovered my delayed start on my oven does, in fact, work. First time in 19 years I’ve used it! Supper was meatloaf, instant smashed spuds (do not judge!!) and corn. Now it’s time to chill. All of a sudden, I’m totally drained. I’m too old for this crap.

Yay on the contract (assuming Florida doesn’t screw things up) **doggio**!

**vroom** , I always liked the pageantry of the RC church too. Some of my friends wondered why I always took my mom to Midnight Mass on Christmas eve as an agnostic, and I just told them it was a helluva show.

I really have all of the needle threaders I need for my measly hand mending and occasional embroidery **JtC** , but it was sweet of you to offer.

Back when I baked a lot of bread, I liked to make dill onion bread to go with pot roast **Moooooom**. The recipe that I used was a yeast batter bread that fit in a 2.5 qt casserole dish, no kneading required. If you would like, I could pull out the recipe for you this weekend.

Welcome back **butters**. Grief can be a miserable thing, but at some point, the hurt is less. When my late sweetie passed ( **fishy** and the rest at my first dopefest met him), I was inconsolable for some time. At some point, I began to get out and began to live again. Counseling, given that you are in a new location, may be just the thing for you.

Wow, **wordy** , when it rains for you, it really pours. I’m glad they caught the guy.

Well, we hit triple digits here in the southeast ‘burbs of NashVegas today. I’m chillin’ for a bit more before bedtime under the AC.

Y’all are making me hungry for real tacos now. My workday breakfast is an egg, a slice of pepperjack and some salsa or hot sauce on a corn or whole grain tortilla, which is close, but no cigar. I may have to put them on the menu in the near future.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

As to tacos …

We had Her Ladyship’s homemade taco fixins on scoops for dinner last Thu when her daughter & granddaughter first came over to stay for the long weekend. Monday we had tacos from the taco truck the building had invited in for the evening. Yesterday was Tuesday of course, so of course we had our usual craft tacos at the craft taco restaurant nearby. Dinner tonight you ask? The last of Her Ladyship’s taco fixins. So a bunch of seasoned shredded burger bits, chiffonade lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and the last of the scoops supplemented with some spicy pita chips, sour cream, & jalapenos from the taco truck’s leftovers. Felt weird to reheat the meat in a pan (!) on a stove(??!?). Then again, such is life with no microwave. Welcome back to 1967.

With everyone else’s dinners in mind so far this week, maybe we shoulda named this thread “All Tacos All the Time in the MMP” and saved the first day of school for next week. Might’ve avoided a lockdown and a squished kid.

Her Ladyship did complete her Medicare part D & G applications too. So now we’re fully covered. The Roomba has been hard at work all day in one room or another and laundry has been duly processed. A Gin Gimlet is sliding down nicely, the Sun is low in the west, and most all is right with the world if you keep your eyes scrunched tightly closed and pet your cats vigorously. 😉

Almost forgot …

Daughter just called. She is enroute to pick up a new 9yo and her 1yo sister. There’s also a newborn not yet released from the hospital that is sibling to the other two who will be joining our family in the next couple days.

So we (she really, but we’ll be cheerleading) will have a newborn, a 1yo, three 3yos, a 6yo, and a 9yo. One of the 3s is a boy and all the rest (=6 but who’s counting) girls. Should be a joyous, or at least highly energetic, noise. 😁 😍 😵‍💫 🤪

Howdy Y’all! Provisions were procured and then the rest of the day was spent inside in the a/c in high sloth mode. Nappage, day drinkin’, and eatage of leftovers were all accomplished. I think tomorrow will probably be a hide inside day as well what with this heat wave thingy goin’ on and all.

**{{{Wordy}}}** I know what you’re goin’ through with your mom is really tough on you. Here’s hopin’ her remaining time is peaceful. I know it will be filled with love. Glad the kids are safe Hope the ahole is put away forever. Also, yay on overlyboy’s first college acceptance!

**{{{Butters}}}** so glad you checked in with us. Been followin’ you on the book of faces. Grief can show up when and where ever. I suggest you look into a grief counselor. Also glad you have some fun stuff to look forward to doin’. One can never have too much of the pod of God!

**MOOOOOOM** glad RoxStar is home and safe. Poor baby, I’ll bet she was upset when it all hit her. Hope it all goes much better tomorrow and that it doesn’t make her hate kindergarten.

The Episcopal Church can be real high churchy or real low churchy. My own church is high churchy on the big feast days, but a bit more laid back otherwise. Bear in mind there is always a processional and a recessional, cause that’s just the way that is. However the smells and the bells can and will come out from time to time.

Home again _ridiculously_ early. We were pretty dead, plus … okay, at one point I started to feel really lightheaded and woozy - my hands started cramping, which is a Bad Thing Indeed and very painful. I just felt so damn HOT and couldn’t cool down.

My sweet manager got a rag wet with cold water for my neck and helped me to my car (I hate being a spectacle) and after several minutes of sitting in the parking lot yowling in pain in front of the AC going full blast, I slowly got my fingers to unclench (I had to hook them over the handle and use my body weight to pull them straight) and got my breathing back under control; I was practically hyperventilating. Tottered back inside, drank more cold water, and a few minutes later I was all the way back to normal.

Sucked but eh, it’s over now. Shall be drinking buttloads more water tonight, and probably having something salty. I think my electrolytes are out of whack.

Someone here commented that since it’s back to school time, maybe that’s why we’ve been so dead at work lately. I mentioned this to my manager and she nodded; between back-to-qschool shopping, college tuition, etc. she said she’s sure a lot of people are eating sammiches for dinner.

That’s great and so important that at the beginning of the season you were able to work on fundamentals with the boys.

**doggio** did I tell you that last week when I was walking home from work, one of your drivers was stopped on the street and we chatted briefly about the proposed contract. He was happy with the terms and hoped that it would pass.

**swampy** any chance that your church streams your services? if so, would you mind providing a link? I’m sure you’ll do a great job!

It’s great that there are enlightened school districts that recognize that some students have needs that go beyond what many students need and provide the resources for them. Kudos to you for your work with the autistic students!!! Not many would have the skill set or temperament to be able to do that work.

Wow, not been a great week to start school! Glad **talkie’s** and **FCM’s** youngun’s are fine, but man that had to be nerve-wracking for the parents (and grandparents in **FCM’s** case).

Feeling pretty good, between mowing the lawn and 90 minutes of swimming and sauna got some good exercise today and didn’t even need a nap in the middle of the day. Ham-n-Cheesers have been consumed so I should be go until tomorrow on the consumption side of the ledger. Still over 90F at 7PM, the water is going on the front yard now (because of the way the lawn is shaped, have to move it a couple of times, it’s on the second patch now) while the back yard got wet this morning.

**Wheelie** , looking good in the back yard. Don’t think I’ve ever had a yard without grass and dependent on plants, but if it works for your neck of the woods, great.

> I’m curious what your “(along with other coverage)” means in this context?

When I retired I kept my US Government Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage, so it pretty much covers what Medicare doesn’t. If I ever drop it, however, I cannot get it back since I’m retired and would have to look for Medicare supplementals or those other Letters you’re getting.

**nellie** , small steps, it’ll keep getting better. Hope your PA is nicer than the one mentioned above by **talkie**.

**Cookie** , now you have me hungry for some corn on the cob.

**BBBoo** , that’s some high-level Government double-speak there…

**Oopsie** , surprised the kids (parent?) can afford to work out in a gym at that age. And surprise, the Cook’s people were here around noon to do the routine maintenance…gave them a couple of cold bottles of water.

**Pilot** , that daughter of yours is a rather amazing person, but you know that, don’t you. Enjoy them when you can.

**Shoe** , probably just work/heat and not enough water, but if it re-occurs, then Doctor!

OK, need to move the sprinkler one last time and get the last piece of lawn watered before night falls. Take care all.

We’ll want of course documented reports of his quest for the perfect cup, with raw data, annotated analysis, graphs, charts and, of course, peer reviewed process reports submitted in depth at least every other day. Now now, no need to go overboard. Hint hint.

I did mention last week that my cheap-ass espresso machine died early last week after a year-ish of nonuse. I’d ordered another nicer one from da jungle which arrived during the irk + granddaughter here flail late last week.

Anyhow, last night I finally unboxed it. Made in China of course, but with an Italian name and designed in the Italian style. _Tres chic_ to look at. The manual written in gen-u-wine Chinglish was a hoot as always. Anyhow, it makes a mean cuppa espresso. Far superior to its lowly predecessor even when that one was new. And has several adjustments to fine-tune / screw up. There shall be experiments.

Welcome back and please do see a grief counselor. I haven’t lost a spouse, but losing my dad was pretty hard and talking to someone about my unresolved feelings helped a lot.

It’s been a hard summer, I’ve lost established trees and perennials to the heat this summer as well, so please don’t blame yourself for that.

Please hang around, you are valued and cared for.

Yep. I used to love it when bosses would enable my laziness and I would quickly learn how to keep pawning stuff off when I could. The bosses I respected the most didn’t allow me to use them that way and made me responsible for my own job. The bitches, LOL!!!

I am not speaking for MetalMouse, but I have a medicare supplement that covers what parts B&D do. I’m not sure about G, but I also get old farts bennies…like free polydent. There are a few threads here about retirement medical insurance, but you likely also have free advisors available. Check with your local library for resources. Just the almost mindless motions help clear the mind so well. Congrats on the magnifying light, I use one and they are so very helpful!

I got our last needlework lesson on Friday and had it printed and ready to go to the post office, but it just didn’t happen until today. I feel like a bad daughter, but Mom has told me that she just started lesson four and to not worry about it.

I dropped the envelope at the post office after picking up my surplus box. We got a bunch of potatoes and broccoli. I blanched most of the broccoli and froze it, we will have some of the fresh tonight. I also made potatoes au gratin because we haven’t had it in a very long time and I had cheddar and grated parm from another box that needed to be used up. I found some ham in the freezer that is also in the oven, because hubs must have meat with every meal.

I wonder if I’m old enough for a mandolin yet. Looks at videos and forgets that idea for another year. I have a very good relationship with my knives, no need to jeopardize it by bringing home another cutting tool.

Thanks for the referrals. We’ve got Medicare websites, pamphlets, and helper organizations coming out our ears. I hope some of the knowledge stuck / sticks inside instead of all coming out our ears too.

If you have something that covers what parts B&D do, then you probably have a Medicare _replacement_ plan, not a Medicare _supplement_ plan. Those are completely different things. Yaay for bureaucracy!

Today was a busy day. I was able to sleep in until 9 am (work is not allowed to start in the building until 9am). I figured I might get breakies in before things started. Nope, got the call that the lobby plants are being rolled in.

Put breakies away and went to the lobby. Wow! Some serious palm trees were being put into place. I pointed out we’re they should go, moved some lobby furniture around, pondered, zhuzhed a bit.

The new plants look great. There is one area that the committee will have to figure out.

After the plant deployment, I got to breakies. Then started 2 loads of laundry, and the cleaning of building decorations.

The glass vases (4 vases, 2 at a time, they are really tall) went into the dishwasher, the faux flowers got wiped down and dedusted with an air can, vase fillers were cleaned and placed into containers (13!). 2 vases were too big for the dishwasher.

After laundry I had dinner, and finally finished everything at 7ish.

Took some advil so I’m ahead of any aches and pains, and am kicked back. Going back to the office tomorrow will be much easier.

Oh, a fun new toy! Enjoy your experimentin’!

We have 2 colors of Powerade at work, plus apple juice and water, and usually bottled tea and lemonade, too.

Since I’ve been eating so little again lately due to the heat, and since I started having a gnawin’ and cravin’ for red meat (probably need the iron or other nutrients) and since it gets mentioned around here a bunch, I’m treating myself to Texas Roadhouse tonight.

Would y’all believe, I’ve never been?

They’re out of prime rib - I _did_ say treating myself - and the waitress was so sweetly apologetic. I get it! It’s an hour before close, and I had a backup option in mind.

If it’s good, I’ll come back … maybe earlier (on my day off, I guess) since they were out of mashed potatoes, too. 🤨

Update: hunk o’cow is delishush!

I missed it. But I do likes me some deadcow.

We had Costco Giganto Dogs (‘Dinner Franks’) with cheap-ass non-bean chili, and grated cheddar for dinner. (No buns.)

SWMBO said she didn’t want any shrimp, so I’ll cook them up for lunch (for me) tomorrow.

Congrats to overlyboy!!!
**{{{wordy & overlyMom}}}** what does your Mom think of Jimmy Carter? Because if she has a good opinion of him, you can share that he is in hospice care at home.

Welcome back **Butters** , you were missed. 🙂
We’re here for you. (and we’re definitely not happy all the time; just about everyone has bumps and rocks and sometimes boulders in their path through life; as shoe would say, I’ve been having a sad ever since I learned some very sad news about someone close to me that I’ve been sworn to secrecy about)

We went to the Tigers game today. It started pouring as we drove downtown so when we parked, we just sat in the car until it stopped about 1/2 hour. I had taken a book to read. It was pretty dreary as we walked to the stadium. I had taken my hiking waterproof hooded jacket as well as a raincoat. So glad I did as we were in the upperdeck and although the temp was supposed to be high 60’s/low 70’s, when the wind blew, I felt cool; although my legs were cold so I tucked the bottoms of my pants into my socks. Also put a plastic grocery bag over my thighs and the insulation made my legs feel closer to neutral. Hubs went and bought a hot chocolate for me and for about 10 minutes, I used it as a hand warmer then drank it and it was soooo good, chocolately, sweet and hot. As the game went on, the wind changed to a sort of warmish wind so first I took off the raincoat, then the sun broke through and I took off the rain jacket. It was a good game; interconference against the Cubbies. There were a lot of Cubs fans and they were cheering their butts off. They had a lot to cheer about; their players were hitting, their pitcher was pitching very well and their fielders were making some good plays. The Tigers not so much but I still enjoyed it. The Cub fans were jubilant at the conclusion. I’m glad that after driving as far as they did to attend the game that the outcome was in their favor.

Thank goodness that the LEO’s were able to capture the guy!
I cannot imagine being a parent of schoolchildren these days. Our daughter was in middle school about to go into HS when that shooting happened at that school in the Colorado city that is named for a flower (senior moment; I even have some of those flowers in my yard). Anyway, I felt pretty ok during her HS years as she was in an all girl Catholic HS. But during college, both undergrad and working on her masters and when she worked at 2 different colleges, I was anxious on the regular. I feel for you parents and grandparents of schoolchildren.

**Wordy** , holy crap. As others have pointed out, you do _not_ need more stress in your life right now. Glad they got the guy and nobody was hurt. I sincerely hope he serves prison time. (This isn’t the place for a Second Amendment debate, but 🤬)

Eh, the fee is actually pretty low, and I’ve come around to the mindset that I’m happy that _everyone else_ has to follow the rules too. Never again will I live two doors down from a house with a junked school bus in the front yard. True story.

It’s fake grass. The dog loves it.
