Sad news today. Before I got dressed for work, someone in the local FB group posted about a cat in distress and hoped someone could look into it. After lunch, someone else posted video from exactly the same area of a hawk that had caught a black kitten. The video was not graphic; just showed the back of the hawk and the back, lower, part of the dead kitten. The poster said there was a more graphic video that s/he didn’t post. 😿 ---

I’ve frequently had to tell graphic designers that they need to change to real text. Hurray! How’s it feel? It looks good 🙂 Mom used to donate blood when I was growing up so I did as well. I donated in four states and three countries until a different company took over the bloodmobiles in AZ and sent me a rather mean letter telling me that I had Hep C and to never waste their time and money for a free blood test again. This distressed me and I showed the letter to my doctor who took it very seriously and did a whole lot of blood work that all came up negative. I took that paperwork with me when next the bloodmobile showed up at work and they grudgingly allowed me to leave a pint. Which they threw away while sending me a really mean letter. So I quit donating blood. I am an organ donor and the body farm will take our bodies if they have room when it is needed but I expect I’ll probably be cremated. I won’t care, I’ve done what I could. I am reading and wishing I could type longer than a few minutes without my shoulder aching, but my thoughts are with everyone. The heat dome is upon us and I walked out side today, then came right back inside. Its not like I am going to go anywhere anytime soon anyhow. Hubs made it a point to start my comp downloading the next D4 season today, it starts tomorrow and he wants to be sure that I can play. It probably won’t happen but at least he knows that he did everything he could to facilitate it. ---

Then I discovered ZippyPaws toys. They’re essentially a plush covered, heavy duty squeaker. He still has several that have lasted for years, including Rocky Raccoon, his lovey who only rattles now (too many trips through the washer) that he got for his first birthday. ---

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 20c/67f and cloudy. Weather app says “No fucking sun for you!” Suits me fine, thank you. **Nellie** I remember you telling that tragic story. You must feel really good when a former student contacts you and you can see how much of an impact you had on them. Makes up a little for all the bad times too. **Mollie** I hope you get a wig appointment, that would be a really fun thing to do! I’m up, sheveled, and the binmen have already been so when I go downstairs to make another cup of tea, I’ll go and put the biiiig bin back where it belongs. I have irk today, it’s also the last of the neurodiversity training sessions today. I also have a minion meeting, then a team meeting, and I need to make campus food after I log out of irk. I’m only on campus two days this week…hurrah! ---

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. _YAWN_ 'Tis 76 (the temp dropped a degree!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and sunny. This translates to 96 with the heat index factored in. It’s laundry day. I can hardly contain myself. I think there will be some quality cee-mint pond time as well. I suppose I will deal with my homework as well. Sigh. Sup will be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs and oven fries. Fartfest to follow. \*\*Oopsie I’m so sorry about HusbandBFF. This afternoon I have an appointment with my Urologist which is supposed to end the anti-androgen drugs I have been taking for two years. It has been a long and sometimes difficult road. I am guardedly optimistic. and hoping for a return to normalcy. ---

I have some artificial parts, and one piece of me came from a donor. Once, I fell down and damaged part of my right quadriceps muscle. That’s the big bundle of muscles on the front of the thigh. The surgeons had to patch in a piece of donor “cadaver” tendon to make it all work again. The artificial parts are two knee replacements, bifocal lenses in both eyes, a Watchman device in my heart, and a titanium cage to stabilize the joint between the lumbar and thoracic parts of my back. ---

Good morning all. Blood tests in my past show that I’m kind of borderline anemic, which puzzles me since I eat too much red meat. But the doc told me that I’m not a good candidate to be a blood donor, so I’ve never donated. But I am an organ donor. Today I see an EENT again and will tell him about a second episode of tinnitus/vertigo/vomiting I had about a month ago. He has been reluctant to diagnose Meniere’s Disease, as I don’t have any hearing loss, but today I’m going to press him to come to some sort of conclusion. Not that much can be done about it except prescribe diuretics and for me to keep to a low-salt diet. But I’d like a formal diagnosis anyway. **JtC** , my dahlia plant is ridiculously productive. It’s producing a humongous flower about every other day. One thing about dahlias I’ve noticed, though - the cut flowers only last three or four days before wilting. But they’re spectacular while they last. I think I’ll get another tuber from Swan Island Dahlias for next year, this time a blood-red one. ---

things are getting toasty in philly. we are gearing up for a seriously hot heat wave. predictions are at least 3 days over 100. i’ll leave the air on for the cats in the bedroom. the city is starting to cancel some events. i got a bunch of things to put together for the long weekend. my plan was to hide in the flat for the duration. of course, there will be projects. so very optimistic. i got a really cool new 4 part hamper, microwave rack, over door organizer, fun book tower, under sink mat, and under sink organizer to put together and install this weekend. i also have a new book from a favoured author arriving…wonder how much will actually get done. ---

Good morning. **Mrs Magill** and I completely slept through the walking alarm and woke up to her phone. I think we needed that extra hour of sleep. I had a good, long talk with my sister last night. I had meant to call her to try to cheer after having to put her cat down, but it turned into a long talk about me. To be fair, we haven’t really talked since I came out to her, which is my fault. I’ve been feeling awkward about the whole thing. She admitted she has a bit of difficultly of reframing her relationship with me - as she put it: “We never really had a sisterly relationship growing up.” I agreed and said that our relationship was probably more adversarial than anything else. I also never had to deal with being the daughter of **Mama Magill**. She had just set insanely high standards for my sister, which, I think, was a learned behavior she’d gotten from _her_ mother. My **Uncle Maus** has often said that he didn’t understand why their mother was so hard on **Mama Magill**.
